So if he is challenged to fights by tough guys like he was against the Piles and Flyers is he supposed to walk away? He has not initiated 1 fight yet.
Those two guys were both living the code, giving the kid an opportunity to fight, they weren't challenging him for any other reason than to give him that opportunity. He doesn't need that anymore, he can't go to every city and fight every goon in the league every night just because someone says something to him at the red line. If things get heated in a game definitely he should go, but he won't last long if he just fights every night for no reason and fights the likes of McDermid, etc.

He's not going to fight every night. Nobody does that. He's just the new kid on the block making a name for himself and he will have a few more challenges ahead from some stupid tough guys and then it will end when he keeps beating the shit out of people. Also, not every fight is going to be as violent as today's.

The kid got some cohones! It was really nice to see the whole team celebrating when he got a goal! In a few yrs, he will be the best fighter in the league.

If he doesn't take stupid penalties and continues to engage in the physical play and keeps up with the puck he's here to stay. Why would he be afraid of McDermid. People here already perceiving him as a finished product yet he's only 21 and not finished growing physically nor mentally.
.

He's the new enforcer in the league. He doesn't have to pick and choose his battles. The other enforcers ultimately have to welcome him to the league out of respect. With his size he can take on anyone. Other enforcers are taking tabs on him obviously.

* The boy can skate for 6'8" for the people who've only watched him drop the gloves.
