Add Murray to the long list of half-@ssed goaltenders this team has employed for what, the last 15 years?

One after the other, they all come in with high expectations and every single one of them folds like a cheap paper airplane

Lol. no matter what they do, this team simply cannot find a goaltender.

Goaltending has become a crapshoot league wide. Gambling in high potential isn’t a bad idea. Not leaving cap room for a reliable backup is a bad idea.

I kind of like Kypreo's take on all this. He basically said goaltending is not voodoo, people just don't understand it. He also said goalies don't win you games or Cups, they prevent you from losing. Basically arguing that the Leafs don't need Murray to be a Conn Smythe goalie, they just need him to stop pucks he should stop, and they need guys like Matthews and Marner to take over games.

He compared it to Crosby - Crosby never needed Vezina calibre tending, he just needed guys who wouldn't hand over games.

After a good nights rest I'm good with this trade.

Senators were a complete joke last year yet this guy had a solid 3 week stretch where he was the best goalie in the entire league (excluding the win column since it's the sens -- actually he was 5-2, so maybe even that -- nevermind, 5-4)

He's guaranteed multiple weeks here where he puts up video game 1 gaa 93 save % type numbers.


The concussion history is the main concern but every passing hour the huge upside becomes clearer and clearer.

Worst case scenario we don't get to accrue cap space if we have to LTIR him but I mean who are we adding at the deadline that has a 9 mil cap hit anyways That 4.7 is enough as far as trade deadline is concerned + whatever other 1 mil contract they can free up.

Yes, I do believe in Matt Murray. I believe he can be a competent starter, and I think he'll be better than his last season in Ottawa.

I just don't think he's worth 4.6 million in cap space. And I believe in Jack Campbell a whole heck of a lot more. I also believe in Cam Talbot or about 3 other potential goalie targets more, too.

I don't hate the player. I hate how he seems like the only option that management seriously considered, just because of the Greyhounds connection.

People need to remember this guy is legit no.1 skill he's not 1A/1B mrazek/campbell level skill.

Healthy murray is not the same as just sticking with a healthy mrazek because the cap hit is less. If Murray is healthy for most of the year we will rarely lose games if we cruise the same as last season despite atrocious GA/60

Don't understand why others want to gamble on the Comrie's instead when you can have no.1 skill for free. Less chance you can LTIR the other gambles too since Murray's downfall seems to be health. The other goalies downfall would be straight up being garbage.

Murray is the best option for age to skill ratio and we got him for free. There's obviously huge risk if you're getting that for free. Stop jacking off to sweetener fantasies and get back to prioritizing wins.

I don't like the trade value that we got. But I'm fine with adding Murray. I think there's good potential with him and that it could work out. It could not. But then we're basically dealing with last year's situation where Campbell was really bad for most of this year.
