Do you believe in Matt Murray?

Do an objective assessment of the goalie market... it's probably the easiest market to assess. He already declined a trade to Buffalo. We can probably assume Arizona is on his NTC.

If Ottawa's best deal was to trade him to Buffalo, with a top 10 pick going alongside him, I think that speaks volumes to what the Sens had on the table.
You can assume what you like. Assuming that others will take your "probably assumptions" as fact though is a mistake.

I believe ha can be relied on in 40 games or so and not as Nr 1 the whole season, they need to gamble on another goalie who can step up as nr 1.Blackwood or Samsonov would be that gamble or throw in Lankinen if they want it cheap and think Murray is the answer.

I don’t mind taking a chance on Murray. But we can’t go into the season with Murray and Kjallgren/Woll as our tandem. Neither Kjallgren or Woll is an NHL goalie at this point and they may never be.

If you’re going to have a question mark in Murray you need a lot more support behind him. So we still need another goalie.

With what cap space. Unless kerfoot, Holl, and possibly Muzzin are moved the leafs are hunting in the league minimum bin for most roster spots needing to be filled.

Yes, I believe Murray can bounce back in Toronto.

I also believe Dubas did not take advantage of the situation enough under the circumstances.

Yep. Somehow we spend a 1st to get rid of 1 year of Marleau, but we only get a 3rd for taking 2 years of Murray? ugh

Do I believe he can provide us some mediocre goaltending? yes?
Do I believe he can put in an overall season similar to Jack last year? Yes?

Is he gonna lead us to the holy land? hell no.

I watch option leafs had...

Kuemper... ok but if he dont want to play in Toronto or asking 7+M?

Campbell who help leafs to jump from 3rd ( where leafs d should be) to 19th where leafs D actually finishing the season. Goalies was issues last year...

Gibson if really available

Jake Allen

Husso who had 1 good regular season in carreer and was trash on playoff

Murray who won 2 cup and almost always being clutche on played but dealed with a lot of injuries...

I dont see a lot of good option... the good thing its if Murray didn't work, it will be easier move on a murray with 1 year remaining at 4.7 than a campbell around 5.5 to 6M for an other 4 years or a kuemper probably around 7/ 5 years or whatever

Dubas hasn’t had a great track record with goalies. The most significant moves have been, I think, trading for Campbell and Rittich, signing Mrazek, and letting Freddy walk? Campbell was very good, but Rittich and Mrazek sucked, and Freddy was very good after walking, so overall he’s 1-for-4 on significant goalie moves.

I think this trade makes him 1-for-5, Murray looked washed in Ottawa. Dubas will try to sell this move, as if they really wanted Murray, but IMO he just got desperate:
- Disrespected Campbell with a serious lowball offer, so he wasn’t coming back
- Wasn’t having success with any of the good UFAs (Husso, Kuemper)
- Gibson didn’t want to be traded here

So he basically got backed into a corner and had to go dumpster diving. MAJOR f*** up, we ended up giving close to $5 mil to a goalie anyways, should’ve just given that to Campbell.

Agree the goalies havnt worked out but there way no way on earth we were keeping Freddy. the fact his numbers had fallen off a cliff (top 5 worst starter in the league his last year) party due to/combined with the injuries he had been sustaining combined with his uneven playoff performance (never the better goalie in a series, always letting in soft goals in big games) meant his time here was done. Even bouncing back this year, where did he finish in Carolina in crunch time?....on the IR....

I really wish we had 2017-2018 Andersen back. The hardest working tough as nails MVP one.

So hard to find quality goaltending.

In the end, we really don't know what we have in Murray (who had a real jekyl and hyde season last year behind one of the worst D's in hockey) so best to see how it plays out the first couple months before we call it an "L".

Just for reference, here are Andersen's numbers the last year with the Leafs (along with the other two main guys shouldering the load):

Campbell: .921
Hutch: .919
Andersen: .895 (injuries certainly an issue)

Andersen's numbers had been increasingly getting worse the past couple of seasons as well. Why didnt Canes fans lose their minds when he signed there? (the same way so many Leafs fans seems to be)

Here are Murray's numbers last year (with other main goalies):

Forsberg: .917
Murray: .906 (injuries certainly an issue)
Gustavsson: .892

I called the L's on Ritchie and Mrazek as fast as anyone last year and I'll be sure to slam Dubas if this is a disaster. We shouldn't be surprised if Murray thrives on an actual good defensive team either though.

I'm just as interested in seeing who they grab for the backup.

Yet another complete failure of a trade.

Reminds me of Kadri for barrie and kerfoot or a 1st for an injured foligno.

On the plus side, at least some of the dubas fan boys seem to be starting to realize that kyle is a fraud.

With any luck dubas will be fired part way through the season.

When you keep having to rationalize trades, it gets tiring.

The reality is murray drop because of only one game... before his last game against arizona he was at 0.915

This is such a long shot. Hope it works out because what else can I do? I'm a Dubas supporter but this looks like his worst move as the Leaf GM. I simply don't understand this. Hopefully he has information that makes this a sensible move - I don't see it.
