We going to retain a chunk and package a 2nd for Seattle to pick him up if he doesnt get his shit together or we buy out. No worries. I am more upset Hogberg is also playing terribly.

But thats what I mean, our defense has not been good.

I feel like Murray fails the eye test myself, the fancy stat test doesn't seem to like him either. This suggests Murray allows an extra goal and a half per 60 mins (5v5) and his sv% is .0371 pts lower than expected (so an average goalie would be expected to have a sv% of .904% in his situation instead of his .867)

What advanced stats won't say here is how many automatic goals against we give up per game. Any goalie playing for the Sens right now would allow them. It would take an insanely acrobatic/athletic goalie like Vasi or Hasek to partially offset that (and even then we'd still lose)

A normal NHL "team defense" will at least make the other team work a bit more to score goals. I could post several videos here on "how to NOT defend at the NHL level" but that really shouldn't be necessary. Just watch the replays and analyze how we gift wrap goals and glorious chances every game. I mean, other teams make mistakes or blow coverage as well, but the rate we are doing that right now is alarming. The amount of time and space we give up is NOT NHL LEVEL.

I think with every game passing, more people will start realizing that this is not on the goalies (even if they could be better). Fans who have never played the game or with lower understanding of the game might refuse to see it and choose the easy "blame the goalie" option.

So, the advanced stats are pretty skewed here and won't tell the whole story.

They pulled Murray once they realized we were gonna get shelled. Murray was mad but I don’t think he realized why we were pulling him. We weren’t trying to win the game, we were protecting our fragile new 6 million $ goaltender from letting in 11 goals last night and being completely embarrassed

Sens actual team defense is probably ECHL level right now. Any goalie would get shelled, like Hogberg got shelled after he took over (and gave up 5 goals against)

What's funny is that Murray before being pulled made 2-3 very difficult saves as well. I don't know if people realize we could have literally given up 5-6 goals in the first 8 minutes... If Murray was mad ok, I would have destroyed pretty much everything on my way to the locker room.

We going to retain a chunk and package a 2nd for Seattle to pick him up if he doesnt get his shit together or we buy out. No worries. I am more upset Hogberg is also playing terribly.

I'd bet a house that Seattle's "team defense" will be much better than the Sens this season (or until it gets fixed), like quite easily. Ron Francis will hire a good coaching staff and get the proper personnel (doesn't even have to be better on paper)

ok single out Murray... but how come Hogberg has a worse SV% then?
I have watched parts of every game..Covid lockdown is brutal. I have listened to every pregame show on TSN1200..Covid has been brutal. The parts of the games that I have not watched, I have listened to on TSN1200.

I may be in the minority, but I like Gord and Dean. I don't take them seriously, they can be blowhards. But they are local, my own, and I am by nature tribal.. They can cheerlead with the best of them..hey, I don't blame them, they work more or less for the Sens..Old Eugene can get rid of them anytime he wants..

Here is what is unique. The last 3-4 games, both have made harsh comments about Murray...when they do!!!! WAHHH, I know how bad things have to be. Especially from #1 Ass kisser Gord. Dean declares himself as impartial, to give himself credibility. To cheerlead and have us believe.. Gord does not even bother. That is why I respect him more.

Murray was brought in as a star goalie. A #1...his numbers should dwarf the #2..because if the #2 was as good as the #1, why have the # 1 and pay him as such. So, even in an ideal situation, one were the team was playing real well, I would expect and want my #1 to have better numbers than my #2...

So, the eye test, Murray fails..the; research the stories to get the facts, definitely fails. Keep your eyes and ears open as a fan, he fails.

I am not blaming Murray..He is who he is..he is injured...why sign him is my comment? And no, he will not play any better the remaining 2-3 years that he will be here..Leclerc..Injured hip in Columbus. Got here and stank.

What the bleep was Dorion doing? If I a fan, was aware of the stories concerning Murray's issues. What was he doing? what were the scouts doing?

He's obviously not injured. What are you talking about?

What I've learned about goalies is that they can go from tire fire to Vezina or vice versa pretty quickly.

did you know Pascal Leclaire was injured?

I found out when his GM, Doug MAclean told the story of his injury on Sportsnet's Hockey central at noon about 3 years ago. He was relating a sad story about how he had to meet the doctor, who told him Leclaire's injury was career threatening. A year later Leclaire is here, he spends two years doing nothing and was pretty much out of the game by 28/29 years old. What stories came out later? a HIP injury...It was assumed the injury occurred here..No, he came with it. Murray missed. Maclean was gone form Columbus and did not violate the rule of no dirty laundry about your old club.

Read some of the articles I posted in an earlier post..they are but a snippet of the info...Had you watched as much hockey as I did in June-September, you would have heard the chatter about him not being the same, about some of the announcers/color guys talk about his concussions, etc..where do you think that comes from??? Maybe them talking to their Pittsburgh friends in the business and getting "inside info"....Concussions..he has had 2 severe, and possibly others...You do not come back from them. It is why at 25 he lost his place in Pittsburgh, on a team that was still an upper echelon team. It is why at 26 and in his prime, he was made available. For a second round pick!!!! he should have fetched a King's ransom.

Those that don't want to believe, fine. Sit back...the next 3 years will unfold. Unlike Leclaire, who had only 2 years left. Murray has major coin and a new 4 year deal.He is sadly, an injured player. Since his injury cannot be Xray'd or blood tested. It is difficult to detect. I believe that one day, the NHL and all leagues will implement advanced enough schemes to flush those injures out.

this is sadly another case of a GM not being up to speed on this player. And a pro scouting staff that also missed. But then, the pro scouting side has taken a beating the last 2-3 weeks.

I'm very glad this contract isn't longer, but those last two years are going to hurt.

Would you guys be okay with Matt Murray retiring and becoming the GM if it meant we get out from under his contract and a new GM?

Will be a good story when he breaks out of this and gets his game back.
Hopefully this year and next offseason he can use the time to get straightened out.

Mind blowing this team let Bishop and Lehner go. Failed starters on Gerber, Leclaire, Emery.

We’ve literally had Vezina goalies here and let them go. Goalie evaluation in this team is terrible.

To be fair Emery and Lehner both had issues while here. That’s not bad evaluation it’s just a sad story.

Anybody else run then buyout numbers on Murray yet ?

2.33 mill per year through 26-27 per cap friendly. Savings of 11.8 mill over the final 3 years. Cap hit (from 24-25 to 26-27) 2.33 mill, less before that.

Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

Even worse, they were here at the same time, both were the youngest and second youngest of the trio (Anderson being oldest).

One was traded for a bag of pucks..the other for Collin White, who if he does not become way more productive, will be a bag of pucks.

Brian Murray for the Hall of Fame alright!!!

To be fair Andy was better than both of them at the time ...Lehner also had some issues

Bishop move was so dumb at the time, he was good here. And we had goaltending depth for the first time ever

The problem was Bishop being an upcoming UFA...But for sure we should have gotten more back for him.....With all the help we have given TB over the years isnt time we either stop trading with them or really make them pay dearly for one of our players

Ottawa
I think Murray will be fine. The NHL is too good a league for the defence that Ottawa has been employing. We have players on defence that shouldn't be in the league and aging vet forwards that can't keep up with the play. Couple that with young players learning the ropes. It's a bad situation. And a rookie coach.
If Ottawa had proper structure, reliable defence (middle of the pack), the goalies wouldn't be getting hung out to dry and having their confidence destroyed.
