Value of: Mason McTavish to Montreal

One very important question:

Why would Anaheim consider trading McTavish? They would then need to find a 2nd line center. They would be in the same boat as the Habs are in now. This rumour, whomever created is, makes no sense whatsoever.
The rumor created is of the mindset

What does Montreal want/need

And the other team is irrelevant

Dude is going to be menace in the playoffs. I don't see anything on Montreal's roster that would entice Anaheim.
Yup. There's no combination of likely trade assets that makes it worthwhile for Anaheim, unless they know something we don't (ie, bad attitude, bad training habits, lack of commitment, etc.) and that means his value is lower than expected.

Yeah you are definitely more likely to acquire Zegras from Anaheim than McTavish if you are wanting a center. I know some fanbases are lower/higher than others with him but Zegras this season was nearly always on the wing.

Ducks will lock/match, etc as needed and do the same for Carlsson to keep them as their 2 centers of the future

Unless there's something medically wrong, from all reports he's exactly the type of player you want. I think it was one of the coaches that said that he's always studying video. He's probably one of the strongest out of the young guys in the NHL too.

Just as I responded to the OP, I will ask you 1 important question:

Why would Montreal make this trade? It will weaken the very position they are trying to bolster. The goal is to eventually end the rebuild, not extend it.
They wouldn't, just answering OP's question as to what Anaheim would want.

That’s why we don’t really make good trade partners unless you were looking at zegras or strome

Neither team should be trading their core players

The two teams are bad trading partners. Both are at the end of their rebuilds and there’s no way the Ducks trade their number two center, it just opens another hole in their rebuild. The Habs need to wait for their possible number two center to develop (Hage), just like the Ducks have with McTavish. The Habs need a number two center but they’re going to have to look elsewhere to get one IMHO

You can be sure the habs would never offer those player for him either.
i'd do Caufield for McTavish, McT still isn't as proven as Caufield but plays the more important position/has more to his game (that said contract is going to be much worse also), Caufield is looking like a perennial 40 goal scorer with 50 potential on a great contract, obv there's a connection with Zegras etc

1 for 1 no adds

You don't trade one of the top 5v5 producer for McTavish. Even if he play C. Caufield is simply better.

McTavish is one of the best young centers in the league. Just because they have a good one in Carlsson doesn't make McTavish expendable. 2 good centers is better than 1

In fact, everyone WANTS two good centers ... thus the multitude of threads looking for a 2C.

When a team is rebuilding what are the first three things they ideally find? A 1C, a 1D, and a 2C. Sometimes that's not on offer when you're picking and you have to adapt, but that's what every team hopes for. You give up other things before you give up any of those three, if you have them.
