He's been very good. Scoring and making plays. A lot easier on him that he was able to reset from the regular season he had here. Looks confident. His line has been good. The power play needs to be better this game. Need better entry like game 1. Nash needs to be in front. That line at ES has been good too. Need more from others. MSL has been as advertised for these two games

Marty is a great player, but being nominated for an award for gentlemanly conduct in the year you demand a trade from a team you're captaining, who is doing very well in the standings and bound for the playoffs seems really dumb to me.

Then again, as with most awards, I'm pretty sure they just look at points and who had the most according to some other criteria, like PIMs in this case.

Sere, it's for conduct on the ice, not off it. You could be the biggest jerk ever, but if you're a class act on the ice, you could win this award.

Either way, this is going to ROR.

Cue the "hockey players shouldn't be allowed to pursue personal interests because they're here to entertain me" rabble.

I'm well aware of the criteria, it's just somewhat paradoxical in this case, due to his abrupt departure from Tampa. And while I'm not making a case against his nomination (I'm with you that ROR will win anyway) you could even argue that demanding a trade is kind of an on-ice thing, or at least relates to him as a player, rather than a person. I'm not bothered that he's nominated but, if he won for example, could you go back and find another winner ever who had demanded a trade or held out on his team the same year they won the Byng? Like I said, just seems a bit paradoxical, regardless of the criteria.

I hate that ANY NYR player got, gets or may get in the future nominated for this award.

Well if it makes you feel any better, the St Louis nomination certainly had nothing to do with how he played in his 19 games for us!

It's more like "I feel better about myself by pretending that NHL players are classier than everyone else and care more about their teammates than everyone else over any personal interest". Not as concise but there you go.

I didn't think someone was going to post a more ridiculous comment then mine in this thread, but bravo.

Sportsmanship and a high level of play is a negative? Yikes.

Call in the goon squad, let's get some GRIT in here.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

funny.

I don't like soft hockey players and I associate the Lady Byng with soft players.

you folks can like the soffness of the team, I will ALWAYS call it for what it is.

There's a mindset that players need (that the Rangers forwards lack for the most part) to play with an edge to their game.

Just for the record.

Martin St. Louis. 3 GP 2G 3A 5P leading all NYR in scoring, and all forwards in TOI...Rangers lead series 2-1 and could easily be up 3-0.

Ryan Callahan: 4GP 0G, 0A, 0P. Team is currently playing golf.

Yeah...for the time being, we won this trade....only need to see what the draft ramifications are going forward.

The most hilarious thing about this, is the article on NHL.com

In quest of a repeat Lady Byng Trophy win and fourth in the past five years, St. Louis recorded the seventh 30-goal season of his NHL career (30-39--69). He led the Rangers in goals, points and power-play goals (nine) and ranked second in plus-minus (+13). St. Louis ranked third among NHL forwards in total time on ice (1,696:11), but was assessed just 10 penalty minutes -- fewest among the League's top 20 scorers. The 38-year-old native of Laval, Que., is a Lady Byng finalist for the eighth time in the past 10 years.

MSL is obviously a superior player to Callahan and we are going for the Cup this and next year. Long term losing the draft picks will hurt, but the hope is that we win the Cup.

In 4 years we will need to rebuild either way.Take MSL, Richards, Nash, maybe Staal and others off the team, and whats left?
