And play who in his place? It's too late for that now. The only question left is whether Marty is the missing piece of the puzzle? The roster is set for this playoffs. Marty will be around for next year's run too. We'll see if it was a price worth paying.

It is a hypothetical question. If you could trade MSL and Tampa's 2015 2nd round pick for the Rangers 2015 1st round pick in the draft and Cally for this years playoffs would you? In effect reversing the trade after we have seen MSL produce and Cally get shut out in the playoffs. Since people are complaining about a draft pick what is there to think about?

He has been just as bad as Nash the last few games. I think he challenged Avery for most offsides in a game as a Ranger yesterday.

I still don't understand how a guy who played so well in Tampa can come here and play so mediocre. I'd blame his line mates who I'm not a big fan of, but a lot of the things he does bad are all on him. Really doesn't make sense.

Honest question.

Why are you leaving out portions of the transaction and inserting portions of the deal that are not guaranteed?

The trade is

Callahan, Cond. 2nd in 2014, 1st in 2015 and a 7th
for
MSL and a conditional 2nd in 2015.

Assuming no conditions are met, the trade that is hypothetically reversed is:

Callahan, 2nd in 2014, 1st in 2015 and 7th
for
MSL

Assuming all conditions are met:

Cally, 1st in 2014 & 2015 and 7th
for
MSL and 2nd in 2015

Entire first line has been way too inconsistent. MSL has probably been the most consistent, but still lacking. Top players have not brought nearly enough.
MSL may have been the most consistent of the top line, but the level of his play has been declining since the second game of the Flyers series.

We need to try Hagelin-Stepan-St.Louis
Zuccarello-Richards-Nash

Nash is really hindering his line right now. Marty also needs to shoot more.

I think it's time to shake the lines up. Is the Brassard-MZA-Pouliott THAT good that we can't split them up? I think they have as many points as the Nash line in the playoffs, so I just don't see that line as being untouchable.

OK Suppose we kept Callahan (and the picks) with the intention of letting him walk at FA?

Does that mean we were expeting to go all the way as is this year?
So far in the playoffs the results with the most dynamic player in the game have been eerily similar to results of prior years.
Or.....were we expecting to go all the way when those unknown pics came to fruition along with some other FA signing? (using the added cap space) And if that's the case, what is the timeline?
What is the current time line to go all the way? This year? Next? Has this team had the look of an elite level contender?
Personally I'm not losing any sleep over the pics. We have one of the most dynamic players of the modern era. AND, he can still play!
One of the worst periods in Rangers history was brought about by Sather when he threw away picks.

As for what MSL can do, that is still to be determined.

I was just simplifying things. Tampa has already said they want to resign Cally and Cally has said he wold like to stay there so hopefully they make that deal happen and we get their 2nd round pick. I could not care less about the 7th round pick. 7th round picks can be picked up for next to nothing. Now you want to assume we beat Pitt and make the ECF? Okay lets do that. So would you rather us not have MSL and Tampa's 2nd round pick and prefer our 2 first round picks and not make the ECF with a possible chance at a Finals?

Id consider the chances of Tampa resigning Callahan to be very small.

I agree Callys asking price is nuts but why would somebody else pay it and not Tampa. Tampa's GM and coach both emphatically said they wanted him back.

Because Tampa keeps a draft pick by letting him walk. Because a rebuilding team close to the cap floor could use Callahan as a "heart and soul" type of selling point. Because GM's/coach's say that stuff all the time.
