Brodeur is gonna be a problem soon or later for the canadians in this tournement cause his way of keeping the net doesn't respond to today's standard : A good butterflie style. Brodeur's style is based on anticipation. For sure, Brodeur is one of the best to anticipate. But when he is not on his game, he gets beaten by shots that butterfly goaltenders would have easily stopped.

AS A CANADIAN... I WANT LUONGO IN THE NET Vs GERMANY.

Brodeur's gonna burn us...By the way.. Vokoun outplayed him in 2005 world Championship.

It's a hard style to master, but much more rewarding than a butterfly style. Brodeur can kick his rebounds to defenseman, where a butterfly goaltender will give up more juicy rebounds.

As a Candian I would perfer Turco to Loungo, but that's just me. He seems to have much better rebound control and is better at playing the puck.

I'm gonna go further here... If Brodeur would have been in net vs Czech Rep. in the semi-final of the world cup 2004.... Canada would have loss this close game in wich Luongo shinned in replacement of an hurt Martin Brodeur.

His style seemed to work for Canada in 2002, and in 1995, and in 2000, and in 2003....

He will be fine

don't forget the world cup.

Luongo was terrible in the Czech game in the World Cup

He wasn't terrible. He made 37 saves, and made a massive save at the end of the game which led Lecavalier down the ice to score the goal in OT.

He might have been shaky at times, but considering that was his first legitimate game in several months, he was pretty good. He was also a key reason why Canada won the game, when they were thoroughly outplayed. To me, that isn't terrible goaltending.

This thread is unbeliveable. You would think after what Brodeur accomplished in 2002 and 2004 people not to mention all the cups he's won would have some confidence in him. The butterfly style is overrated in today's NHL, just ask Jose Theodore, he's down on his knees more than Jenna Jameson.

With the canadian hockey style, we just need a safe butterfly goalie to go on... I wish Brodeur will do the job... The Czech are Canada's Nemesis and Brodeur haven't beat them yet...( 2002 olympics D 3-3, 2005 world Championship L 0-3.)

I hope brodeur will come out big and shut me up.

Didn't Luongo replace Brodeur as Canada's started in last years world cup?

Maybe Brodeur just isn't that comfortable on the big ice..
The last World Cup was on NHL ice, in Canada.

It's 2006 now, in case you didn't noticed... the poster of this thread didn't say that his style didn't work 2003.

I'm sorry, but if you ask me, its rediculous all together to suggest that Martin Brodeur is not an elite goalie in this day and age.

Whats wrong with you people? He's led us to goal before and he is still pretty young. He's earned his chance to be the starter and if he screws up, I'm sure they will use Loungo (maybe not cause Pat Quinn's the coach and he doesn't realize anything) but yeah Brodeur all the way!

You know you're stuff, Brodeur has never been able to pull clutch which is why he isn't considered a #1 goalie.
