They need to be less worried about this and more worried about pure access for people that have "cut the cable".

I have ESPN+ AND Dish with all of the channels and yet, it's STILL difficult to find all the games.

I find it crazy people can sit through live hockey now after watching on a PVR starting since around 2010. I guess in an arena no choice but 2.5 hours to sit through a broadcast, two 18 minute intermissions (which used to be 15 mins before 2013) is ridiculous.

I record games on an IPTV app now and takes like 70ish - 75ish minutes to get through the whole thing.

That’s a poor decision, intermissions were extended a minute or two in the past, to ensure the flood is good and frozen. I remember in the past wet spots to start a period in the odd spot, and the puck would just stop dead.

Won’t really affect me, as I PVR each game and start 30-40 minutes late, when I’m not attending the game live.

Ya, as I was reading this the first thing that popped into my head was "wait didn't the NHL extend intermissions like 20+ years ago because of some issues with flooding?"... It's probably not a problem in places like Montreal and Boston in February, but during warmer months and/or places with warmer climates? :dunno:

I rather the intermissions be longer and the actual interruptions in the the middle of a period be shorter, but I dunno... Probably not a huge deal. Would anyone have even noticed if Lebrun hadn't mentioned it? :dunno:

3 commercial breaks per period. 3 periods in a game. 9 commercial breaks in a game. 9 times 30 equals 270 seconds. That comes out to 4 minutes and 30 seconds.

2 intermissions. Each a minute shorter.

That means a grand total of 2 and a half minutes added to a game telecast.

Hate this because people have enough difficulty getting back to their seats in time for the next period to start as it is.

Irrelevant to those at home, painful for those at the rink.

I'm just shocked they're even considering shortening the intermission.
Yeah, the players aren't going to like it if they have specific routines for intermissions, the ice resurfacing may be rushed, and in-arena beer sales will suffer.

If this happens I’ll be a lot less likely to watch games. I’d gladly trade European style jerseys for no commercials at all.

I don’t get why people complain so much.

Three commercial breaks per period. That’s 1.5 minutes more per period. Which is 4.5 minutes more per game.

If they take off one minute of intermission time then the game will run 2.5 minutes longer than usual.

Yeah, that is what we need, longer commercial breaks. All that will happen, is they will indeed increase them by whatever amount and intermissions will magically be the same length. The world won't be happy until there is 60 minutes of commercials and 30 seconds of gameplay and ads literally plastered on 100% of the ice and players tattooing ads on their faces. I fully expect by 2034-35, that players will no longer have names, but will be sponsored names.

Fan Duel wins the 2035 scoring race with 126 pts.

This couldn't be more wrong in the slightest.

I'd gladly trade an additional 30 seconds of commercial time for no ads on helmets and jerseys. Of course the NHL is going to grab all the money they can get, so neither of our ideas will be used.

OK, that's you, but I will either watch a live game or I will catch the highlights. I'm not going to spend 70-75 on a game that has already taken place.

North Americans should love this since your favourite "sport" is on average 63 minutes commercial time.

An American football game takes over 3 hours but only has 11 minutes of action. That’s wild. And it’s easy to point to that and say “watching football is a waste of time” but I think that’s missing the point.

Much of the frustration stems from the "slippery slope." We've gone from helmet ads and moving board ads to ads on Jerseys and now increased commercial time. When will it end?

I don't love the helmet sponsors or the jersey ads. But they make almost no difference to my hockey watching experience. Another 30 seconds of commercials wont make a big difference either.

The only recent change I really hate is that the digital ads on the boards can move/change during play. That actually hinders me while I watch the sport. I'd sign off on another 5 minutes for the tv time out if it means they ditch the moving boards!
