Seen this before and its not a huge deal. Would rather see the player just flip out a bit on the bench though. The whole getting up grabbing his gloves thinking the whole time and then getting a stick and walking down the tunnel is too much. Also he should have remained benched the remainder of that game.
Ya that’s what makes this bad, he should of taken the 1 shift benching like a pro, and just waited until his next shift, instead of grabbing gloves, stick, then breaking stick for missing a shift.

What can I say. Hockey mecca. Even other fans are obsessed about the Leafs and their players

Initially I thought he can't handle criticism, which is still the case imo but for a different reason. I watched a video of 12 year old Mitch and his crazy dad and it started to make sense. His comment to Keefe how "we're grown men" made me realize he hates criticism because it makes him feel like that little kid being scolded after a lousy game on the way home from the rink.
Jesus. I'd always heard that Mitch's dad was a little loco, but this guy is just an asshole. He admits he's trying to live vicariously and it just seems downright pathetic.

Figured this was thread worthy simply because the last time he did something whiny it got Babcock fired. This was during a timeout in the third where Keefe called him out for his bad mistakes leading to Anaheims two goals, and then he benched Marner. What’s going on in Toronto?

EDIT: Figured I should mention that this was when the Leafs were up by a goal in the third, and he took off before thinking of acknowledging his own mistakes.

Boeser and Myers for Marner and a small add.

We have seen plenty of stars break sticks. He is frustrated and coming off a bad night in the office, I get it.
No… you don’t leave the bench like that to throw a tantrum. Should’ve been benched for the rest of the game at least. This isn’t normal behaviour and I doubt most coaches would allow it. Keefe undermined himself by not sitting him after this.

Bigger picture: something is lacking in this guy. He just doesn’t seem to have the heart and the bigger the game the worse he plays. Matthews is the real deal but I just don’t like Marners character.

He’s still very young and there’s lots of time to change the narrative but I’m not a fan of this guy.

A player getting frustrated and breaking a stick isn't that uncommon, the concerning part here though is that he wasn't frustrated with having 2 turnovers leading to goals, he was mad that his coach called him out for it during the timeout. Add it in to him not taking criticism well like a week or so earlier when Keefe was forced to walk back his "elite players" comment because it upset Marner.

Being a star in his home town might be too big of a spotlight for Mitch, seems to be getting to him.
Exactly. People are ignoring the context of the situation.

Such a terrible take.

No reaction: "he doesn't care"
Reaction: "oh a tantrum"

Players smash sticks in frustration all the time.
Smashing a stick? Sure. It’s leaving the bench that’s the issue. Especially since he’d just been benched.

Marner is a gifted player. Always has been. Only problem is he's a loser. He's not like Patty Kane. Kane has ice in his blood. Marner has kool-aid in his blood.

"...the last time he did something whiny it got Babcock fired..."

Wait, what? By "tantrum" in this case, do you happen to mean being betrayed by a narcissist that forced sensitive information from him about his teammates then shared with them without his permission? Or is there some other "tantrum" I'm forgetting?
