Tantrum and crying was pretty funny, but a bit played out since it happens every playoffs with him.

More notable, is that Marner coined an entirely new phrase for the English language last night: “Shambles in his brain”.

Atleast it’s not an expression I’ve ever heard of before. Maybe Paul Marner said it to him before, “MITCH Don’t you f***in stop skating or I swear to god your mother will put shambles in your brain” or maybe “MITCH don’t let Kyle put shambles in your brain and stay f***ing firm at 12M per year”

Of course HF thinks this is thread worthy

Try harder

We've seen worse in the NHL. However, comparing it to Mackinnon/Malkin/Kessel isn't quite accurate Those three were in pressure situations angry the team wasn't winning. They werent throwing a tantrum because they got called out. Marner seems to take criticism as well as Drouin takes hits on the boards. PLD was lambasted by Torts and kept it together.

A player getting frustrated and breaking a stick isn't that uncommon, the concerning part here though is that he wasn't frustrated with having 2 turnovers leading to goals, he was mad that his coach called him out for it during the timeout. Add it in to him not taking criticism well like a week or so earlier when Keefe was forced to walk back his "elite players" comment because it upset Marner.

Being a star in his home town might be too big of a spotlight for Mitch, seems to be getting to him.

What a dissapointing "tantrum". The least thread worthy issue i've seen in a long while.
Least threadworthy? Tantrum obviously isn't the right word, but this is definitely threadworthy.

When's the last time you saw a player leave the bench because he wasn't happy with the coach? Maybe Patrick Roy in Montreal?

Would people rather him show no emotion while things aren't going great for him?

Would be worse if he just sat there and didn't care about it.

Figured this was thread worthy simply because the last time he did something whiny it got Babcock fired. This was during a timeout in the third where Keefe called him out for his bad mistakes leading to Anaheims two goals, and then he benched Marner. What’s going on in Toronto?

EDIT: Figured I should mention that this was when the Leafs were up by a goal in the third, and he took off before thinking of acknowledging his own mistakes.

I can’t even see where he breaks a stick and I don’t see that sort of thing as a big deal, but I guess you do.

“The last time he did something whiny it got Babcock fired”. If you think that’s why that happened, ok.

I would have to know the context of this. Did he get a penalty and go to the dressing room? Did he just randomly walk off during the middle of a game? Could it have been an equipment issue.

I would love to laugh at the leafs but I would need more context behind the 10 second clip which really didn't look like a "tantrum"

Is that the right video? I can't even see anything there, just hear Mike Johnson saying he broke a stick....which if true I'd refer to that Larry David gif "Nobody gives a f***"....

Marner had 2 bad giveaways this game. Leafs called a time out when the game was slipping away. Keefe mentioned the giveaways and seemed to signal towards Marner when speaking of them. Marner flips his lid when called out and the tantrum starts.

People keep making this up. There is no reason to indicate he broke his stick because he was called out more than he broke his stick because he was playing like shit.

Just because he was called out doesnt mean thats why he broke his stick.

Kind of reminds me of MLB players when they strike out or aren't batting well. They'll go into the dugout and smash their bats out of frustration.

He wasn't playing to the level he probably felt he should be playing at, he needed to vent his frustration. I'd much rather see him do it down the tunnel away from his teammates than on the bench where someone could inadvertently get hit or hurt.

As fun as it is to pile on the leafs. I actually really like matthews (I hate to admit it) and he is the centerpiece of that franchise. Nylander/taveras/Reilly are all great core guys.

Marner though. Idk. He makes roster construction tough by virtue of being another forward making over 10 millions, seems to have a shitty entitled personality, and isn’t built for playoff hockey.

And this has nothing to do with the “tantrum”. That is a nothing burger

Edit: he is still a stud. But man he would be so much better on a team with a strong veteran core that would whip him into shape. eichel is a great example of that. He needed to get out of buffalo as he wasn’t a leader and was a shitty personality in the locker room.

So he just took his stick and went down the tunnel?

I'm speculating here but perhaps Marner becomes the piece that gets traded out.

Definitely can't compare it to Kessel/Malkin or MacKinnon as these guys were actually pissed and were trying to win important games. Marner and the Leafs definitely aren't trying to win anything here.

Its so cringe. Id have this guy off my team the next day.

Gallagher is a similar loser too. f***ing hate babies.

(I was just like that when I played and things didn't go my way, I was 15-22 back then, Marner (and f***ing Gallagher even more) should both be passed that.)

Are we supposed to have a problem with this? Not a huge Marner fan, but I don't see what the big deal is here.

Here's Malkin, Kessel and Sullivan all getting into it on-route to winning a Cup. This stuff happens.

How is that even close? Its not a tantrum, its on the fly problem solving.

Running away to smash things is just so cringe.
