I never said they aren’t an issue. I said players can be convinced to waive over time. Every situation is different but It’s happened before and players have different pressure points. Tampa forced the defenseman I forget his name right now to waive to Nashville.

Also what does that have to do with Huberdeau? As I mentioned he didn’t have one, so the team could move him freely.

In the Marner situation we have the Jonas segal reports that Marner was willing to waive his NMC two off-seasons ago after the Florida series, the leafs didn’t pounce on that opportunity. Now he doesn’t want to waive or wasn’t asked. Ultimately if the teams don’t act it’s their fault. The leafs could have moved off Marner two years ago and anytime before that they didn’t want to. It’s as simple as that. Now they are caught in between a rock and a hard place. Do I think Marner is going to waive in a contract year? No. Would he waive in the middle of a long term deal? I think that’s more likely

Even to add on, people act like Zito was shopping Huberdeau. A star player requested a trade and gave two options of where he’d sign long term. Florida and St. Louis. Huberdeau was just the price of acquiring a player that wanted to go there. Huberdeau was more than likely not going to be traded if Tkachuk didn’t want to be a panther.

Seigal wrote an article in June of 23 I believe? I believe it to be true. The Marner car jacking has happened what a year before? I think he might have been ready for a change at that point in his life. I think we all have moments where maybe the grass feels like it could be greener somewhere else. I feel that year of his life may have been that point for him

I found the athletic article, can’t post cause it’s subscription but it was after the Boston series this year, Siegel wrote the article talking about trading Mitch. In that article, he mentions Mitch was prepared for the possibility to be moved last off-season(which was after the florida series) and the leafs didn’t move him. So it sounds like Mitch after Florida was okay with being moved or accepted that a trade was coming and it never came. Who knows maybe leafs couldn’t find a trade partner or they decided to keep him. Or as I predicted before that move was stopped due to Kyle Dubas being fired and Brad reevaluating things.

How much money did Marner miss out on with regards to being denied performance bonuses on his rookie deal?

The B performance bonuses that he was denied are worth up to 2m per year.

Do you know if it was the norm for 4th overalls to get this in their contract ?

Yes, it was standard practice. Lou had some weird personal hatred of them and told Marner that he would never give them out, so Marner signed, and then Lou turned around and immediately gave them to Matthews.

Marner will be the top guy in points when the season is over. I expect a fantastic year once he gears up.

Still not sure if i want him on the team. Feels wierd.

He gets the most ice time he plays in all situations on the top lines for that matter I don’t doubt it

The Huberdeau and Marner situations are not the same and you continuously reference it.

Funniest part is that Marner is the Tkachuk in that comparison. A mid-20s star winger who many incorrectly believed was bad in the playoffs because all they looked at was small sample playoff production discrepancies without context.

Where's the Matthews vs Tavares comparison? Imo it's quite clear that Matty has been the one not playing up to expectations, if he was converting on his chances the 1st line would be blowing the 2nd line away in points.

If this small Marner Fan Club were Panthers fans, they would've thought 115 point Huberdeau should never been traded—and you’d be calling anyone who thought he should be “not a real fan.”

Those same former players, media, and management call him out when he's not playing well, they don't bring up this nonsense after a good game and a fantastic team win where everyone played well.

Matthews shooting percentage is less than half his historical average. His takeaways are the lowest they've been. He's been uneven defensively. If he was near his normal averages Marner would be top 10

That all makes sense, sounds like he was prepared to be moved because his NMC hadn't kicked in and he couldn't stop it. So sure, he was willing to be traded when he had no say in the matter but that's not the same as him waiving his NMC. We may never know if Dubas was preparing to move him or not but if he was, I sure wish he was still here. I feel like with a couple of useful ~5M players instead of Marner we would have easily got past Boston last spring and who knows what the roster might look like today.

Sure, blame Marner's play on Matthews. Don't credit the Hart/Lindsay/Rocket winner with helping Marner put up assist numbers when things are going well as they almost always are during the regular season, but instead, blame him for dragging him down, that makes sense. Good objective insight there bud, thanks for your contribution.

Lots of players are getting blamed for their disappointing play in the playoffs, if you think the blame is focused on Marner then you really need to get out more my good man. Or keep sitting behind your computer and maybe just take a peek at some other threads, you know, the ones without "Marner" in the title.

As far as this season goes, regular season has never been the problem with Marner so it's mostly irrelevant. But hey, if you've forgotten about how bad he was in the playoffs and want to heap praise on him for being "rock steady" in October, you do your thing.
