Marner because he's been this good for longer than 1 season. Ep40 needs to show this again next season.

That is ONLY 1 season. This season.

Sample size, sample size. Marner has multiple 90
Point seasons. Pettersson has been a bust his entire career up until this 70 games.
He was right around a point a game his first two seasons then he got hurt and since he recovered he’s been at more like a 100 point pace.

The guy won the Calder with 66 points in 71 games.

Difference between 101pts and 81pts average per season. EP is younger, but sample size matters.

One thing EP has gotten much better at is defence, so that moves the needle closer. If EP can repeat and eclipse Marner's totals again (while playing more meaningful hockey next season), I think this comparison becomes more interesting.

You ignored what he said.

Hard to argue with Marner’s consistency in the regular season the past few years. Pettersson looked like he would become the player he is this season from the start but he had some hiccups getting there. I do believe this is who he is going to continue to be though, which is a similarly valuable player. And I think he still might have the higher ceiling due to his shot if he can get better at getting it off quickly and without the perfect pass for the one-timer (the PP kind of moved away from the shot because he wasn’t able to get it off as consistently since teams knew it was coming).

One thing that’s stood out with Pettersson to me is his willingness to go to the net and along the boards and battle it out despite a general strength disadvantage over his career. That was very evident in the bubble playoffs as well. I haven’t seen Marner show that same willingness to go to the dirty areas in the playoffs, and it’ll be interesting to see if he can have a big run this year.

Nuck fans ignoring Marner's jump in defense too.

...and still produces more.

Uh, based on what? Yea he produced decently last year with 8 in 7, but let’s not pretend his production has been stellar in the postseason so far, with 33 in 39. I know you want to turn it into a pissing match because that’s the type of poster you are, but I’m not shitting on Marner. He’s really good. But he’s had issues with playing too much on the perimeter, and I do think it’s a fair criticism that I’d be less concerned about from Pettersson

Marner by a hair. Track record counts.

If Pettersson repeats or builds on this season again I can see him surpassing. Has more upside imo as well.

It's close but EP is less prone to bozo plays at the worst possible time. I don't know what it is about Marner but he has brain farts from time to time like he randomly gets the yips... or maybe that's just a Leafs thing.

Marner is more proven. This is his third 90+ point season.

Pettersson is having the better season overall though.

If this is the new norm for Pettersson, then I take him.

The safe bet currently is Marner. I personally believe that Pettersson has taken the next step so I'd take him.

Both are elite with EP leading by a point and 7 goals in one less game.
Pettersson has taken another step this year and it was evident the second half of last year as well.
He’s a top 5 two way center.
Marner is a top 5 winger but I’d take the top 5 Center every time.

Really didn't expect Marner to be losing this.
EP is a great player and I like his development as he matures but Marner is the straw that stirs the drinks in Toronto. Runs the PK, runs the PP and generally runs 5v5 play as well. I get how you would take the center over the winger but calling Marner just a winger is selling him way way short.

Pettersson plays in every situation and plays better
