Pettersson.
Took a huge step this year.
I think by next year people will catch up with how well he’s playing and he will be in the top 5 centers. Should get Selke votes this year as well.

This is Marner. Much better player. He gets it done in all aspects of the game. Not just a one trick pony on the PP who has been a bust his entire career up until this season.

Eh to be fair Pettersson is 6th in EVP this season. I'd probably go with Marner but it's a lot closer than some make it out to be. If i had to pick one of them for next season only i'd go with Pettersson due to cap.

Pettersson has to repeat this first. Marner has been at a consistent 90 point + pace since 18-19.

Marner has 53 ES points and Pettersson has 60 ES points. Pettersson has 8 SH points and Marner has 4. Meanwhile, Marner has 33 PP points while Pettersson has 21.

I know it was a troll post but regardless it’s worth mentioning.

Pettersson. He’s doing more with less in Vancouver. Kuzmenko is a very good linemate but Beauvilier was considered by most to be a throw in for the Horvat trade but he’s flourished. And before his injury Mikheyev was also having a career year.
Marner was playing most of the year with last years Hart, Lindsay and Rocket winner and still does on the PP so it’s like when Leaf fans penalize Draisaitl. Lol!

That is ONLY 1 season. This season.

Sample size, sample size. Marner has multiple 90
Point seasons. Pettersson has been a bust his entire career up until this 70 games.

Plus, the guy is a literal MVP maker. I have no doubt Pettersson can repeats this sort of production though. Very tough choice.

So here is the question asked

Who is the better player currently.

So here is the answer. Marner is been Nasty this Season, as he is EVERY season. Not just 68 games out of his entire career.

Marner has 90 points this season so far.

Pettersson has 89 points.

Marner also plays in the most stacked division in the NHL.

He wasn't a bust?
Was he a bust in the bubble when he put up 18 points in 17 playoff games prior to his wrist injury?
He was injured most of the shortened 2020-21 season, and was still rehabbing the wrist when 2021-22 started. Look at the first half of last season versus the second half.

Pettersson has been on this pace since roughly halfway through last season (44 points in final 35 games played last season is a 103 point pace in 82 games). It's not a fluke - this is how good Pettersson is when healthy.

Yeah his rookie of the year and over a ppg playoffs really supports this. Good thoughts.

Voted Marner but purely because I need to see EP do this again next year. In a vacuum EP has been more impressive this year but he’s also had zero pressure… which seems to be a trend with that Vancouver team.

Edit: I’ve always been a massive EP fan (voted him over AM in that poll several years ago) and if he can do this again next year, he will trend to overpass AM and become a top 3C

I’m assuming you’re not including Draisaitl as a C? I can see top 5 if he repeats but AM would have to have another season like this one as well to be top 3.

He could be better than Drai if he keeps this sort of production up. It'd be neck and neck with him, especially because EP plays good defense. MacK is a clear #2 for me.
