Keefe didnt even say anything crazy, why is he walking it back lol
Somebodies feelings got hurt and something was said that made Keefe have to walk his comments back.

Toronto media is nothing compared to other sports markets. Some NFL teams markets would eat Toronto alive. I don’t get this thing about how our media sucks. Big markets have this problem.

probably because the "elite" players have been playing well, just haven't been converting, not sure he has to walk anything back but probably explained that.

I know results are all that matters, but the top line has been driving play like crazy and have a ton of shots, just haven't been converting, not too worried that they will eventually.

Keefe doesn't strike me as the type of guy to be afraid to upset someone.

Maybe it’s just me but I feel like Keefe didn’t have to have a follow up on his comments. They played bad and he called them out. Are they that sensitive that the Leafs need to make sure there feelings weren’t hurt?

Thank you, people are shitting on Marner for this whole nonsense Keefe created himself.

I think Marner’s comments were taken way out of context. Keefe definitely pulled Marner to clear up something that wasn’t even an issue in the first place: it’s mainly in Keefe’s head. He looks frazzled as hell this year man

Dunno how Keefe could have looked any weaker in this clip. I agree with a couple of other posters that someone probably stepped in and told him to walk it back. What a mistake. Or if that's the actual relationship he has with the players, he needs to go so a strong coach can be brought back in to take control of this group.

The reporters more than likely wanted to say "than why are you guys whining because the coach criticized your play!"

A man should be humble when he succeeds, stands up for himself and what's right and always takes responsibility for his actions!

Sorry for the toxic masculinity, back to our regularly scheduled broadcast.
Just switch a man to a Human and you are fine. Lol.

You have a short memory

He lost the room because of what he did to a 19 year old kid. Made him name the 5 worst players on the team and because he had no choice he named himself and 4 other players. Babcock then told the room what the kid told him. Right there he list the room.

If babcock was still here matthews and marner wouldn’t be playing together and both would still be getting 15 minutes a night and guys like hyman would be getting 20.

Babcock didn’t even lose the room at that moment. Babcock lost the room the moment he played Marleau more than Matthews in a series deciding game 7. That was the end of for Babcock. When the players realized that Babcock really had no interest in elevating Matthews their best player it was over. It’s why he flew to Arizona, it’s why the team was still pissed off to start the next year.

The Marner stuff came out afterwards.

It’s the fourth biggest market in NA, with perhaps the highest concentration of media outside of NY. We’re a huge market?

Dude, I don’t know about that. It may not be MM, it could be other players too but I get a sense that Keefe was forced to do a public explanation which is essentially an apology than him playing mental gymnastics in his head and thought it is a good idea to explain.
Not to mention the comments from MM

The comments from MM are being taking out of context. There is no evidence to suggest that Mitch Marner approached Keefe. Additionally multiple reports are already coming out saying it was Keefe who approached Marner.

All Marner said was keefe talked to him and cleared it up. To me that sounds like Keefe, for no reason decided he needed to circle back. I don’t think the players cared. I think Keefe was just in his own head because he lost his shit after game 1, then he lost his shit again. So I think he was just trying to do damage control for his own peace of mind. But in turn he made it into a bigger story than it needed to be

Wow... Keefe. Apologizing for your soft criticism? These team is a tire fire.

The difference between the NHL and Dubas teams:

Stars CEO rips Benn, Seguin: 'They are f---ing horsesh--'

Warning: Story contains coarse language
Dallas Stars CEO Jim Lites is far from impressed with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn this season, and went on the record Friday with a profanity-laced rant to describe their recent performances.
“They are f***ing horseshit, I don’t know how else to put it,” Lites said, according to The Athletic's Sean Shapiro. “The team was OK. But Seguin and Benn were terrible.”
Surprisingly, the comments came after the Stars beat the Nashville Predators 2-0 on Thursday, a game in which Benn and Seguin were held pointless for the second straight night.
“We are a stars-driven league, and our stars aren’t getting it done,” Lites added, urging Shapiro to publish his comments. “It’s embarrassing, and no one writes it. Write it!”
Frustration within the organization first boiled over Thursday morning when head coach Jim Montgomery described the team's first skate back after the Christmas break as "f***ing embarrassing."
“These guys are not good enough. They’re not good enough for me, they’re not good enough for the owner, and they’re certainly not good enough for the general manager," Lites continued.
"These guys were signed to big contracts because they were the third- and sixth-leading scorers in the National Hockey League over the past five years. They get their money, we expect them to not be outplayed every game we play in."

Leafs:

"The difference between us and Arizona is that we have elite players, Keefe said on Monday. “And our elite players didn’t play like elite players.”

Before Wednesday’s practice at Ford Performance Centre, Keefe sought out individual players to clarify what he meant.

“I used some of the wrong words to try describe what I was trying to describe that the difference in the game was that difference in the game was that we weren’t able to produce,” Keefe explained. “By no means was I meaning anything beyond that. They didn’t know what I was talking about, which is a good thing. At the same time important that they know where I was coming from.”

Like I said in another thread earlier, I really think MM is not the brightest when it comes to answering questions.

What you said could be true but what makes Keefe think he needs to explain himself in the first place? If he has control in the room and knows the players respect him, he doesn’t need to say anything, bc he knows the players get it that they played really bad.

Maybe Keefe played too much mental gymnastics in his head, maybe it is the players, maybe it is Dubas and Shanny or a combination of all three.
I still don’t understand why Keefe needs to explain what he said post game. Our elite players didn’t play like elite players. That’s really nothing wrong with that.

I don't get it..... Keefe's comments were so pedestrian here how could anyone's feelings be hurt by them? Do our elite players not know when they aren't difference makers? He didn't even call them crap, just said they didn't change the fate of the outcome. If anything, it's the not elite players who should be angry, they were put on the same pedestal as the crap down in Phoenix.

These comments don't even come close to the "y'all soft comments" (which also wasn't even that bad..... The team IS soft).

Keefe is so weird. The players didn't care he said it, yet he makes it so awkward after forcing them to have to say stuff like "we can handle it". Same thing happened last year when he had to spin back on calling them soft. None of them cared, even Rielly was like he thought they were too soft in that game too, without even knowing Keefe said anything in the first place.

*unless i am reading this situation wrong and keefe was forced to spin back

Yes our top lines two goals in 4 games is incredible

I’m not saying we’re not but look at the popularity of NFL/NBA and see talk shows across the states that talk about teams and athletes. Now compare that to the NHL and the Leafs.

Haha. Outstanding. And sadly sums up our Leafs.
