Ahhhh... the Summer of 2019.

Quite literally the ONLY year that offer-sheets were a legitimate and scary obstacle for NHL teams. The whole thing disappeared with the snap of a finger once the leaf stars were signed.

Look at how upset everybody was at the overpayment Dubas gave Marner. Now imagine fan/media reaction if a GM won Marner by giving significantly MORE money as well as losing FOUR first round picks in the process. Seem completely unrealistic and utterly stupid? That's because it is. No team in the world would have done it.

The 1 shift was a joke punishment.

The minute Anaheim tied up the game 3-3 the benching was over and he was sent back out there to help record a win.

It just shows you how desperate the coach is, that even when he tries to take control back from the inmates, this save his own ass took priority as he attempted to not suffer another loss when it was Marner that really assisted on 2 of Anaheim's goals and why the game was still close.

As someone who wants Keefe gone, are you now advocating he should have put out a worse lineup and accepted a higher probability of a loss? Seems like a weird thing to do.

The way I see it...

Keefe was sensing the first signs of losing the locker room. He calls out the elite players to try and get them to step up.

But it failed. Marner didn't like it and spoke to upper management about it. Keefe decided, based on how tenuous his control of the locker room was becoming, to backpedal. He can't lose Marner. Not just because he's Marner, but he's also the best friend of the most talented player the franchise has ever had. Keefe saw what happened when this core decided that they had enough of Babcock. He was turned into literal Hitler overnight. And Keefe has a much more questionable past than "yelling" at millionaire athletes sometimes.

I don't know. It's a shit show. I'm not sure exactly how management should handle the whole fiasco.

Just pure fan faction, Keefe told you why he cleared things up, why do you need to guess?

mm is the locker room cancer, said that 2 years ago.

On the Leafs Report podcast that was released today Mirtle and Jonas discussed what seems to be a growing story that Keefe and Marner are feuding.

And expects that the media that will be attending the Leafs practice tomorrow (which is expected to be an even bigger media presence that usual because of the recent drama) is expected to pounce on that story.

Mirtle predicts both sides will deny anything is going on then. But says that is clearly not the case between the two
If true, what's the reason for the feud? Marner is spoon fed everything here, he makes top dollar, plays in every situation and is beside a top 3 player in the world. Why is he upset?

If it's being called out, that's so unbelievably immature that you need to seriously consider getting rid of him in the summer. Enough of this

Except the team the Marners wanted….
I don't know what that means.

From the GTHL, to the NHL, teams tend to not want the Domi's around.

Other than losing there is no reason to think Marner is upset.

I just watched the "tantrum video" and honestly I'm embarrassed for our fan base. You can't even see him smash the stick in the video and people got so upset by that lol. Honest to God, I was expecting a lot worse.

Marner leads the NHL in ice time. Maybe we’re playing him too much, and who’s that on?

And Eliot Friedman (one of the most trustworthy insiders in the sport?) went on the record that a source told him that it was Marner who made a fuss to management about Keefes comment, triggering the backpedal.

I think the heat on Marner has gone way too far around here, but I understand it to a degree I guess.

Honestly that's a lot on Dubas though

He has to have the balls to stick up for his coach instead of undermining him.

Needs to get a nutsack

Wasn't there some Kotkaniemi thing? Wasn't that after 2019?

It's not Marner's responsibility to think about 2nd order consequences though. Dubas' full time job is to think about how all of these pieces fit together and how to construct the best team. Marner's point totals are what you would have expected. This is on Dubas first and the players 2nd imo. Essentially 95 % of the blame is on management imo.
Is MM producing now? Had MM helped the Leafs past the 1st round of the playoffs? Had MM took over a playoffs series like McD, Drai, Kuch, Makar or Mack?
Accountability is on the players as much as on Dubas.
MM is getting paid as a Top 7 player in the league, his points total are expected or else he is overpaid and not worth his contract. To say that MM done his job (which he hadnt in the playoffs) bc he got his points(not so much in the recent playoffs) and should not be accountable for the team failure in playoffs is just wrong.

I'm starting to think Marner just doesnt have what it takes to hack it in a market like Toronto. His first 3 years were completely different from what has come following the circus contract negotiations.

Marner seems to handle stress and criticism fairly poorly.

I don't say that even as a criticism of the guy, it's just an observation. Guys like Matthews and Nylander seem to do a better job of blocking out this stuff as white noise while Marner seems to get visibly flustered.

Maybe be more embarrassed about the blown lead & the loss to ANA.

I thought Mirtle is Dubas’s guy. Is he just spreading info out there and lay the ground work for one of their departures?

I don't think it's necessarily anything quite to that extent.

But I definitely got the impression listening (And I'll stress this is just my interpretation) that they seem to have some sort of insider gossip guiding their discussion. Though part of it was also seemingly just from observing things that happened during the recent games.
