Maybe it’s just me but I feel like Keefe didn’t have to have a follow up on his comments. They played bad and he called them out. Are they that sensitive that the Leafs need to make sure there feelings weren’t hurt?
Keefe is dogshit coach Marner turns puck over twice ? Leading to goals Keefe didnt bench him? Tavares did same thing but caused only one goal? This core and defence and goaltending is a mess? Whos fault is it???

He was asked about the stick thing... and he said... that's what you do when your frustrated.

Marner is crumbling.... he screamed at holl and smashed his stick over the boards. Then he did a second stick smash in thr hallway later after he was benched for his second turnover.

Leadership is not smashing your stick and throwing tantrums. If anything his acts caused more harm to the teams confidence than good.
$11m a year, an A on his shirt, and nearly 100 points on the scoreboard, Marner is a critical leader to this team. He was great when he was the joyful kid, but he just cannot handle the weight of the team on his shoulders, and it's a big problem when the whole team is looking up to him. I wish he could just blossom into a strong leader, but I don't know if he can do it with the pressure he puts on himself in a Leafs jersey.

I don't really worry about smashing a stick in the tunnel or off the posts when a goal is scored. But the tantrums, oh dear the tantrums really are a bad look. This team feels like it's a case study in bad and ineffective leadership.

Once Mitch walked off the bench and came back, Keefe should've told him to get his ass back to the locker room, have a shower, and get the hell out of here.
Did he leave the bench like huberdeau to go drop a deuce or was it really to go shed tears out of view of the cameras? I missed most of the 3rd period so I'm honestly not sure what happened

While I agree I can see it from Marner's perspective somewhat. He has 2 turnovers leading directly to goals, well Holl does that every single game and he never gets benched ... Never.

We used to jest calling Hyman Babcock's son because of the preferential treatment he got, while Holl is definitely Keefe's son. Holl would clear waivers these days but Keefe has his name in permanent ink when he fills out the nights lineup

Never going to win with $10.893m gutless, spoiled, crybaby, never his fault who disappears in big games and an a 32 year old Tavares with an $11m cap hit.

Mitch needed to go when he missed the beginning of training camp, the same way Willie needed to go when he held out and returned out of shape,

Shambles in our heads. Blame everybody but yourself Mitch. LOL

Everyone needs to buy a jersey with the name Shambles on the back.

I have never liked Mitch. He never once fit in. Sure he has skill, but so do literally dozens of NHL players. From his contract hold outs, to his no shows in playoffs, to his temper tantrum last night. Everything he does is NOT Toronto.

Let him go find himself in New Jersey or Dallas or Columbus. Let us have somebody who WANTS to be in Toronto because they WANT to win. Not because they want a pay day, or to live in the limelight.

Unfortunately we did have someone. I wish Kadri never got suspended in back to back playoffs. He wanted to win here and he showed heart. That interview with hockey night he did talking about his time in Toronto showed me how much he loved being a leaf.

Now compare that to Marners hold out video apology and that was brutal.

Marner doesn't deserve an A, he only got it because him and his dad pouted through negotiations that if Matthews gets a letter he should too.

Marner puts up points but he doesn't do much else to be an actual leader, on or office the ice

At least he game himself a great new nickname.
He will always be Mitch “Shambles” Marner to me now.
Let’s go Shambles, let’s go!

Agreed. Unfortunately it doesn't really matter if they take the A away or not. Simply by being far and away one of the best players, he is one of the central leaders on the team. Hockey players look to their stars for leadership and to have them lead by example. Players look down the bench and know who's there to drive the bus and who's only there to do a job. He is a leader by talent alone and always will be, so his lack of leadership is an active problem.

I think he just needs to stop being cute with the puck. Whenever he tries to do high-light reel plays instead of the simple play...it backfires. If he is on a scoring streak...then be cute all you want....but this version of Mitch comes out when he is being overly fancy and trying to score style points.

I do and don't want to trade Marner. If we do chances are he will wake the f*** up, go super Saiyan win bunch of cups and shit and then everyone shits on the leafs again.....

If we keep him, maybe he dosnt smarten the f*** up and again we lose out.... Almost feels like a lose-lose with Marner.....

Maybe he eventually matures? How much money is he gonna want from the leafs on his next contract?

We need some overall goodvibes/ju-ju in leafs nation with regards to the next overhaul... It's just not fair. (Ye ye life's not fair I know). But wheres our cake!!

One thing I would have to say in “defense” of Marner vs Keefe on the benching. While I agree with the coach that shots have to be fired and that Marner’s thin skinned and sloppy play deserved it, perhaps another player like Tavares or even Matthews would have been the better benching. Do it with a guy you can have a constructive follow up with, not a hissy fit inside a meltdown inside a bigger crisis.

You had those players, in bundles. But your new GM wanted them all gone..
- they were also important locker room guys.

Your GM wanted career loser John Tavares instead
- the signing that destroyed/kickstart everything

I wish management operated as one club and stuck by him as part of our team, which was getting one value set of calls while Boston was getting another

It's since become a more vocal issue that perhaps there's bias against Toronto in officiating. But it was present then.

What's shocking, not unlike a lot of once trusted cultural norms, is that Kadri's retaliation IN THE PLAYOFFS was seen as irresponsible, and nary a mention of the obvious impunity Boston was allowed to play with. The answer wasn't and should never be: We'll just have to adapt to the bias. It should always have been sticking with Kadri and the obvious prejudice against our team, the bravest of which, was Nazem Kadri.

That's the only trade where I thought: Why isn't Shanahan stepping in on this one given Shanahan's player profile?

And to think, Kadri blocked a trade out of love for our team and our fans...and signed a fair deal as a Stanley Cup, Smythe level playoff performer with the team he initially blocked.

Mitch is gonna hear it at home on Wednesday .. it could get very bad for him .. he needs to do like he last did in London and go home for a couple weeks for a reset

To think, this all would have been forgotten had he scored the OT winner when Gibson robbed him on the goal line (I actually cheered thinking it was in).
