Spoiled brats don't like being put in their place. You enjoying the results of enabling it?

I don't have a problem with how Marner reacted.

I had a problem with how he acted during the negotiations, and how he played in the playoffs minus the WSH series and minus last year vs Tampa.

But his "tantrum" tonight - he was blowing off steam out of the view of the cameras, I'm fine with it.

Problem with the Marner stick thing is that he’s supposed to get his frustration out on the ice in response, not vent in the tunnel. As a Pens fan I’ve seen Sid and Geno get frustrated a billion times but I’ve never really seen them respond like that, just weird.

So enjoying it or no? :)

You can't allow that nonsense on your bench. Keefe doesn't run anything.

Are you serious? He is no longer a rookie(this is his 7th season), plus he is one of the top players in the league, plus being top 7 or 8 paid players in the league, plus he has an A on the jersey.
Come on, any players need to be accountable for their mistakes or bad plays. You can't just go throw a tantrum in the middle of the game, esp if your team need to you to show up. Pippen threw a tantrum against the Knicks, he owned it and played his best in the next game, he didn't go this and that....blame the fans and medias....he understood what he needed to do the following game. Lets see if MM shows up next game.

Babcock was right to want to challenge players to overcome difficult moments. He was wrong in how he went about doing it..

There are plenty of tough coaches who do similar things (ie guys like Trotz) and you don't hear about them being jerks when they do it, they're more professional about it

Babcock was clearly a jerk and the wrong man for the job but it’s pretty obvious he saw the problems and was a big enough personality to battle that.

Of all the villain coaches and button pushers in the game though it does seem like he was character assassinated beyond reason though.

Conclusion. They’re all jerks.

I think I said it when Joe Q got fired from the Hawks. Pretty much all the top Hawks players at that time came out and said they let Joe Q down and should had played better....while I don't recall anyone in the Wings came out and said anything close to that about Babs and none of the Leafs said anything.

I didn't mean all coaches in general. I meant Babcock and the players he was battling with.

I didn't listen to the post-game interviews so I'm not sure what he said yet.

He should definitely be held accountable for the turnovers, I'm assuming (hoping) he took accountability for it.

But players throw tantrums all the time - it's mostly out of frustration and sometimes because they want to win badly enough. Players break their sticks on the bench, bang the door on the bench, throw towels etc.

I think Mitch knew with the current of the state how it will be perceived so he blew off steam off the camera, during the time he was (assuming again) benched by Keefe?

I understand. I was just trying to show that players did rally around Joe Q when he was fired but I just don't recall anyone done that for Babs.

Yeah I wouldn't spend a lot time defending Babcock either... he saw a problem, but he wasn't the solution.

Pretty hard not to bench someone who is in the dressing room.

Banging their sticks on the bench or smashing their gloves on the bench is completely different than taking a few mins in the dressing room where the game is still going on.

Like I said, he is not a rookie, he actually got an A on the jersey. He needs to be better than what he has shown tonight.
I understand frustration, get upset and then go out and takes it all out on the opponents in the next shift. Which he didn't.

All Babcock knows is old school solutions and there's no way in hell his old school solutions were going to work with the situation we had.

This entitlement culture is scary.

I don't disagree with you - he does need to show up, in general.

Side note, I thought he got benched first then did that stick thing, lol

This culture(society in general not just our Leafs) are really done by society for being over protective. Takes my kids school for example, they gave a memo/letter out to all students on what type of Halloween costume is appropriate, I get that if it is too revealing or too violent…but they even stated kids cannot wear cowboy/cowgirl costume because it is too controversial due to residential schools or kids cannot wear a Kimono or any clothing that is not their race/nationality. It is ridiculous and I even told the school if I see anyone wearing a cross, I should report them to the school for being insensitive.

Couldn't agree more.

This world is turning into a sterilized PC nightmare. I'd gladly take a time machine back to the 80's and 90's in a heart beat.

He was asked about the stick thing... and he said... that's what you do when your frustrated.

Marner is crumbling.... he screamed at holl and smashed his stick over the boards. Then he did a second stick smash in thr hallway later after he was benched for his second turnover.

Leadership is not smashing your stick and throwing tantrums. If anything his acts caused more harm to the teams confidence than good.

Yes. That was a Heel program. There were no Babyfaces.

Oh man, in that case the pressure is definitely getting to him again. Last time he was like a deer in headlights, this time he's doing it differently but perception isn't getting better.

Aside from all the contract talk - I really do think he cares about winning with the Leafs. I hope they're able to get past a couple of rounds in the playoffs this year and hopefully this core can play lights out with the monkey off their back.

Almost 20 years without winning a round in the playoffs will magnify everything in an already magnified hockey city.

What do you honestly expect him to say? Our confidence is low? we’re down in the dumps?

They are playing like absolute shit, but you can’t come out in the media and say that you have no confidence. For once he gave a decent answer, their confidence better be high and he’s right, they can’t let fans or media get in their head like they have in the past. No issues with this quote.

Look how many star players broke sticks in these videos. It happens every night in the NHL, y’all making a big deal out of nothing. Pro sports evoke emotions. I rather see a player who is visibly upset and shows they care than one who doesn’t react or doesn’t have any emotion at all. Most of the leafs are emotionless and that is the issue. As a group they aren’t passionate. You have a few that are, Simmonds, bunting, Marner but the rest just sit there and show nothing.

Look at how much emotion Anaheim played with last night. We don’t have that
