He'd be doing his job if he was actually reporting. He's not. He's creating his news. Like CNN

How do we know?
CNN is easy to know they’re lying because weget both sides and have more information.

Well then he should have negotiated first.

Salary cap league and he wanted to be last one to the table, now he is surprised there is a limited amount of food left for him

It had to be their way. Their way is making a lot of Mitch Marner fans want him gone. i'm one of them. Maybe they'll respect you in Buffalo Mitch and Paul. And take your side-kick with you

If Dreger is putting out information for Marner wouldn't he put things out there that make Marner look good?

You’d think.

Seems to me like a classic case of people wanting conformation not information.

I thought I was arguing the opposite, but may have misread the post.
Ha Ha yes you are arguing the opposite, all good.. My stance is Boston even though they haven't received great value back in some trades remains a successful organization. By taking a hard line against their RFA/Ufa's hasn't stunted their ability to challenge and be a threat most years.

Yep, they're all just entertainers looking for attention.
Gullible eat it up.
People do. All I said was my opinion is that he appears to be shilling. Not sure I ate up anything. We will see when a contract is signed, or if he gets traded.

Depends on the return.

He is not entitled to any protection and has not earned the right to determine where he plays.

It would be different if Dubas guaranteed him he wouldn't trade him, but that would be on Dubas.

However, as had been said about other players and Dubas' guarantees, Toronto Maple Leafs, not the Kyle Dubases nor mitch marners.
Agreed, my protection quote was related to sign and trade. If MM signs before trading him off, his camp would not want to be open to being traded anywhere other than where MM wants to be. Thus that would be a protection clause in the signing.

I was speaking more in a general sense, not just directed at you.

If this is true, he's going to be nothing but problems. I'd trade him for the highest return and move on. Perhaps to a perennial loser in a ****ty market.

The return will suck but if he's going to be intransigent it may be better to cut bait because if this is about being "respected" I don't know how you can negotiate with somebody that thinks that way

It's pure emotion and from my experience that never ends well

Except they can't legally have protection clause for about 4 years. His option is to play where NHL contracts are not honoured if he doesn't want to play for a team he's traded to.

There is no protection available until he hits UFA

Sadly I agree. There usually can be no placating of someone who believes they are a victim. I'm truly hoping this isn't the case, and that it's just more baseless speculation from "insiders".

Yeah, I guess that could be true.

To me, they got fleeced in more of those deals then they won on, but opinions each way i suppose.

We might get a bit of a view on it depending on how their 2 RFA go with their contracts. No one mentioning they still have 2 left to deal with this year.

They have a solid core (aging now), and Toronto now has a solid young core (once Marner signs, even better) so they should be competitive for years to come, as Boston has been.

I meant the shill part.
There seems to be an assumption that Dreger is playing a part in this negotiation, just wondering how that works?
How can he affect things? Seems all he's doing is making a few mad.

things like public opinion? he can very easily effect the court of public opinion, so leaf fans start making noise for their favorite player. Unfortunately most see through this as their position is ludicrously off base in terms of marners value

I think that "respect" is really depends on whether the player feels disrespected or if this is just a living through his child parent scenario?

If this is coming from the player it could be in the best interest to move him because there will always be something that isn't respected, to add to the growing list of getting less bonus money, getting less than Matthews and/or Tavares. Someone getting a nicer looking piece of the cake, getting handed the Cup after Anderssen, Tavares, Matthews, and Rielly ...

So you are saying they cant have a no trade list, cause that's what I'm arguing
