Before marner

Kadri 32 goal season
van Riemsdyk 30 goal season
Tavares 38 goal season

With marner

Kadri 32 goal season
van Riemsdyk 36 goal season
Tavares 47 goal season

marner has always been set up to succeed, and he has improved the production of the veterans he's always had as line mates.

Contract based on Dubas amounts

(marner PPG / Nylander PPG) * 6.962mm = marner contract (PPG at time of signing)
(.93 / .73) * 6.96
1.27 * 6.96
8.84 * 1.026 (cap inflation)
$9.07mm for 6 years

This should be a case of... Take the Aho deal or Aho deal +500k at the max or sit situation. Tell him we are confident in the team without him and that's that. No trades, no nothing like that just sit and lose 9m that you can not get back EVER. The blood is already bad considering all the press fires. Dubas life lesson, the piper must be paid sooner or later (saving self image is impossible dealing with these people, you're a GM, you need to be a jerk sometimes).

Add: I would give him to camp to sign too, no negotiations past camp.

So JT's agent went with Toronto because of an overpayment? I thought you said Tavares was coming here no matter what and Dubas had nothing to do with it? Nylander overpaid - we'll se but I think you'll eat your words (not that you will).

The only one Ferris is "bending over" as you keep saying, is Mitch at this point
i said he signed in Toronto because NYI were going no where and we were a team on the up swing with a great young core and he and his future wife are from the city , getting overpaid was a bonus

you believed he came here only because of the Dube's power point presentation

Knock off 10-15% of those numbers, the league scoring went up due to rule changes. Really makes all the difference.

Tavares got paid as a UFA. Unrestricted Free agent who has established himself as one of the best in the NHL. Mitch Marner is not top 10 in any meaningful stats. 12th in assists since being drafted, and 22nd in points. Mitch is also an RFA. Leafs are paying for RFA years not UFA years. There is a price difference.

Matthews is the future of the Toronto Maple Leafs at the No. 1 C position and captain. Matthews is 5th in goals scored since he was drafted. Matthews 1.74 goals/60 (best in the NHL since being drafted) no 2 is Ovie 1.64.

Matthews
pts/60 - 3.21
pts/game - 0.97
goals/60 - 1.74 (#1 in the NHL since Matthews was drafted)

Marner
pts/60 - 3.15
pts/game - 0.93
goals/60 - 0.94

Leafs initial offer to Nylander was $6.5M x 6 years and he ended up with 6.9M. Nylander started his negotiations with the following stats:
2016-2017 22 goals and 61 pts
2017-2018 20 goals and 61 pts

Marner
2016-2017 19 goals and 61 pts
2017-2018 22 goals and 69 pts

ONE 94 pt season does not make Marner a 10M player. IF it does then Nylander is one 90 pt season away from being a 10M player and a huge steal at 6.9M.

Saying the Leafs overpaid Tavares, Matthews, and Nylander is VERY disingenuous. Every player that has come to the table to negotiate has gotten fair deals.

Tavares, Matthews, Nylander, Johnsson got 3.4M, Kapanen got 3.2M, Kerfoot at 4.5M.....

Mitch will get a short term deal at 9M or less. HUGE mistake by a bad agent. Mitch can get 10M now, so why wait 3 years to make 10M ???

Dubas has signed lots of good deals. Everyone fits under the cap. He has made lots of good trades this offseason. leafs defense is 100 better than it was when the season ended.
-JT got overpaid as a ufa
-AM gets overpaid for different reasons

and the guy who out performed both of them shouldn't get paid for um reasons , until of course he too gets overpaid and you'll then come on here rewriting history like you're doing with Willie's negotiations

it was widely reported Dubas was stuck at 6m per on a 7/8 yr deal and Kyper also reported a few weeks before he signed the Leafs offered 4 years at under 20m but closer to 4m per but hey lets ignore all the reports and make up fairy tales so the Dube doesn't look like he's a bitch

How many wrongs make a right? Because if you want to undo all this you need to fire Dubas and trade the worst contracts (great players bad terms).

Yeah that's it
yeah it is

but it's all good , i'm just wondering why you and those like you bother to post on this board since it's obvious you don't give a damn about the team and only care about the GM

maybe you could start you own forum dedicated to praising the Dube's every move and let Leaf fans discuss the team without being constantly side tracked by fans of an employee

Nylander contract created this snowball. It's too big to stop now. We're in trouble with this GM. He's Nonis level bad.

there's nothing that can be done outside of firing Dubas and hoping the new guy can somehow talk the next group of rfa's into not using internal comparable's to base there demands on

Such an incorrect comment.

"most teams have not talked at all with their RFA's. No body has worked harder to get their player signed then the Leafs. Leafs have been working hard and have been all over Marners camp".

There are multiple reports out there ..

Here is an example of one;

Report: NHL's Restricted Free Agents waiting for Mitch Marner to set the market

Restricted Free Agency often works like dominos, where the first one must fall and set the market in order to for the rest to follow suit.

Mitch Marner, coming off of a 94-point season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, is undoubtedly that first domino of the 2019 RFA class. And as the Thornhill, Ontario, native awaits a new contract, the rest of the league’s RFAs appear to be waiting on him. Marner, who finished 11th in scoring in the final year of his entry-level contract, is in line for a sizeable raise that could make him one of the highest paid players in the NHL.

According to the Athletic’s Joe Smith, several of the NHL’s top RFAs — including Brayden Point, Patrik Laine, Brock Boeser, Mikko Rantanen and Matthew Tkachuk — are waiting on Marner’s new deal to set the market before they sign on the dotted line.

Unfortunately for both Marner and the Maple Leafs, the team’s salary cap restraints have made it difficult for the two parties to strike a deal, even after Toronto landed David Clarkson and the salary-cap relief he provides in a trade with Vegas.

Marner did nothing for Kadri's production, did nothing for JVR's production either. JVR produced playing with Bozak and Kessel prior to Marner at the same pace if not injured.

Trying to even put Marner in a sentence with JT is just plain stupid. JT has proven time and time again that he makes the players around him better not the other way around.

Proof for this only needs to go back to last season when he took Marner who has been a 60+ pt player to 90+pts, and Hyman to becoming a legit winger with almost 20 goals and 45 points. Both career highs.

But hang on......it was Marner that boosted both Tavares and Hyman!!!! Right.

he might be worse than Nonis considering he took over a much better team

Biggest problem with NoNo was he continued to play the loser hand he was left by Burke , maybe he had no other choice or maybe he wasn't competent enough to see it was a losing hand .

I realize there are Agents that would prefer to wait, but why would teams ?

Makes no sense whatsoever.

Seek help if you're comparing Nylander being overpaid by maybe 250k to the guy who signed David Clarkson.
Dubas actually reacquired him :p

Nylander contract is awful. He's a passenger not a leader. It's unfortunate. He has the skill to be much more. Not the drive.

maybe we deserve to be miserable when a not insignificant portion of the fanbase honestly believes this

I blame the TSN/Fantasy era. A lot of information is being presented as important to people that don't really understand it.

Result: Fans that that want to trade away multiple franchise talents over 500k.

This is my fear. I'm still holding out hope that he can figure it out and at least be a great support player that can put up 70+ points, but it is possible that he doesn't.

Joe Smith’s article is behind a pay wall and this just speculation.
You could be right but I haven’t seen an attributed quote saying they are waiting on Marner.

Everyone gets on the “Insiders “ when they speculate, even when they say they are speculating.
