Like I have said previously Keefe over plays Marner always has. He plays tough minutes as well against teams best players.
Is prefer he’d monitor his minutes a little closer but you can’t really blame Keefe for overplaying him. Keefe is trying to save his job here.

So you think he's playing Marner too much at this time and should be resting him more as the playoffs get closer?
He plays him too much all the time.
He should keep his minutes around 20 every game. We have 4 good lines no excuse not to.
I am not a Keefe fan as he fails to make changes on game plans on the fly.

His job is not on the line in regular season but the playoffs. He needs to save him for the playoffs. When the games matter.

Agree on Marner 100%, the fact that he played 29 minutes the other night is pretty much a firing offence in my eyes. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt but his handling of Marner might be the last straw for me when it comes to Keefe. It's hard to see us getting past Boston without Marner at his best and it's hard to see how he can be at his best with Keefe playing him as much as he is now.

Anyone remember when they were kids and would play hockey on a home rink from noon until after the street lights came on?… only taking a break for snacks and dinner.

That’s Mitch… still, able to do it at the NHL level.

Agreed ..

Keefe knows Leafs chances of beating TB in round #1 are 50/50 at best.. However if he loses home ice in the series those odds decline further.

Keefe is going to run players like Marner into the ground in the regular season because he is the driving force right now of the offense and he needs a strong regular season record and home ice in the playoffs to try and save his job.

Every time I see Marner getting nearly 30 minutes of ice time, its exactly the same thought that I have as to why its happening.

The better depth we have now should allow for a cap on his minutes. Last night be played shy of 21, that should be about the max down the stretch, it’s a busy schedule.

True, although I don't remember a bunch of 250lb goons trying to knock you into next week.

Well, there was one....

Matthews looked awfully good last night so if he's back in form, there's that. Peak Matthews like we saw last season is a sight to behold but whatever, I'm just glad we have them both.
Right. If he has not been going all year, and he hits his stride this month, it should bold well for the play offs. T

World anyone argue against me saying Mitch Marner is the best player on the team right now?

Probably but Nylander is right there. If you rework the minutes Nylander (18) vs Marner (21) and guesstimate point production, they'd be neck and neck. I think they're all really good players including JT operating under a stupid coach tbh. Matthews likely hurt or something like that as well.

Willy is good but there is zero chance he handles those minutes.

Why? Nylander might be the most physically fit player on the entire team and an seemingly effortless skater
Trained for strength vs endurance is 2 different things. Keefe once said he tried to give willy more minutes but he would pull himself off.
In any event, the premise of more grinding minutes for more points is a bit overblown. The biggest difference between Mitch and Willy is game by game consistency. Mitch has been scoreless for 9 games this season. Willy for 20. There is the majority of you point difference.

Willy disappears every year for too many games. His defense is suspect and that is why you will never se him on the ice defending a lead.

As much as the nylander fan boys try to pump his tires he is a long way from being as good as marner.

Personally I like Matthews and Nylander more as players than I do Marner but this statement is 100% true. Marner has been the MVP of the team by a fair margin this year, and in this last stretch of the season he's the Leaf's best player dang near every game. The defensive play has also been something too, I never thought Marner would have turned out to be this good defensively.

Mitch marner is the best player on our team.
Willy has skating and shot no defense
Matthews has skating shot and defense
Mitch has all that okus PK and the ability to make anyone he plays with better(except kerfoot)
His hockey IQ is ahead of anybody on the team

Mitch now 6th in the league, on pace for 106 points.

This guys burned me too many years in a row for me to trust him any more. Even with a solid series last season, it still wasn't superstar level.

Need Draisaitls 21/22 game log from Marner minimum if we have any shot at a cup. There's really no reason why players like Drai can do that but Marner can't. When I see it with my own eyes I will go back to being a homer for this guy

Marner isn't going to Gary Roberts his way through a series. His Gary Roberts cup winning impact has to come through superstar level points. I don't want to spend another summer commending his PK and defensive skills after another series loss. This team isn't built to win if Marner isn't pacing 90-100 points.

So you actually don't know ow what a superstar is. Got it

And those are all great things to have but if we can't put a team together (that can win) based on the asking prices of these players, what does it matter? I want to win not have a treadmill team that checks in entertains, hits the first round and exits.

Mitch is the guy that makes the most sense to net a big return. If JT would waive that would be even better.
