marner is in a good position.

He has another 2 years to prove he's a winner before he needs a new contract.

The fact he'll be 3 years removed from Tkachuk's deal will likely stop people from pointing at that Tkachuk deal and saying why does he deserve more than someone who helped carry his team to the Finals.
I'm sure the Marner camp will totally agree with that if we still can't win more than one round.

Uh huh. Funny stuff. Being wrong is reasonable. Maybe you should look up some of us who were right and call us unreasonable then.
You might think acting as if you're the final authority on what is right and what is wrong supports your argument, but it doesn't. It only goes to display your arrogance and it also suggests that you have nothing of substance to support your case.

Also, if you have to go back 5 years to find a post that you think supports your POV, that should tell you something right there.

I think it’s a hard argument to try to make that Marner has ever been the only guy trying to make a difference. I don’t think that’s true for any of our guys.

With that said, I’m sick and tired of people around here choosing their personal core 4 whipping boy. We have camps for all 4 and they are all annoying as hell
Not saying Marner was the only player out there giving it, what I meant was "the leaders weren't leading and when there was nobody leading it also means that no one is following and all it leads to is aimlessness"

I don't remember if you ever played competitive sports but no matter what the game is, if your team leaders are mailing it in, chances are that level of effort spreads throughout the team.

What thread is this again?
It's the one where the train went flying off the tracks, uhmm I think!

3x$14 million next summer?
I wouldn't be shocked if that was Marner's ask, thought I assume he'll see what happens with Matthews and Nylander first. If that is his ask, I hope we tell him to f*** off (politely of course, gotta maintain our image of being such a sweetheart of a management group to play for).

Mitch Marner shares his thoughts on Reaves, Bertuzzi and Domi signings

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why Mitch Marner would be happy to see the likes of Max Domi, Tyler Bertuzzi and Ryan Reaves join the Leafs' ranks. The gifted winger brings an incredible amount of skill and creativity to the ice. Unfortunately, he tends to end up taking a significant amount of abuse for his efforts. The current state of NHL officiating allows defenders to get away with borderline felonies, especially in the playoffs. This allows unskilled neanderthals like Radko Gudas to beat the living crap out of players like Marner, Matthews and Nylander without recourse in the post season. The officiating won't change as long as Gary Bettman is running the NHL, but now, at the very least, the Leafs have added a few guys who can dish out some retribution.

Joining TSN 1050's OverDrive, Marner was eager to express his excitement at the trio of rather feisty forwards that have defined Brad Treliving's first summer as Leafs GM.
"It's great, very exciting all three players you know come with a bit of grittyness to them you know guys that like to get in people's faces and annoy people so very good at putting the puck in the net too and being around the net so it's very exciting. I'm excited to see how I was going to work out with our roster and the great thing is i think especially those two guys (Domi and Bertuzzi) can fit in anywhere. Obviously Reavo you know what he's gonna bring to the team, intensity and physicality." -Mitch Marner
"I've talked to all of them, just kind of welcoming them in and 'let me know if you have any questions about [living in Toronto]'. You know, what to expect and everything like that. But everyone's been really great. All the guys have been great. They're excited, looking forward to getting on the roster and looking forward to playing [in Toronto]." - Marner on reaching out to Reaves, Bertuzzi and Domi

I listened to him on First Up this morning. He dropped a swear word and the 7 second delay was used. So cringe.

He just seems like a total douche and incredibly immature.

It's been said many times, that boy needs to be kept far, far away from microphones. I can't think of a single pro athlete in my 50+ years of following pro sports that sounded worse than Marner when facing the media. He's just so consistent in that regard, it's amazing.

He is the most unlikeable player.
Didn’t see first up but be wasn’t great on overdrive either. Can’t even talk charity in a respectful manner.
Just getting lobbed softballs and comes off as a complete jerk.

Assuming decent value i would have no issues parting ways with him and I would move him before Willy.

Have you ever not taken the pro player side?
Opps, 2 posts above...I humbly apologize 😁

Radio host has Mitch Marner list his departing teammates from who he'll miss the most to least

During an interview from his Marner Assist Fund event this week, radio personality Maurie Sherman from KiSS 92.5 decided to have some fun with Marner and play on Mike Babcock's list request, asking Marner to rank the departing teammates he'd miss from most to least. With Michael Bunting, Ryan O'Reilly, Luke Schenn, Justin Holl, Alex Kerfoot and Noel Acciari. Here's how Marner's list worked out:

1. Justin Holl
2. Alex Kerfoot
3. Michael Bunting
4. Luke Schenn
5. Noel Acciari
6. Ryan O'Reilly

i listened to the first up interview and I really liked how Marner came off. I come from the “Mitch is no Auston and we can’t pay him that way” camp but the criticism here seems crazy. The guy is doing stuff for charity, and it puts him in the spotlight.

There were two big positives I took away from the interview I heard.

1. They wanted him to talk about all the guys that left, but he talked about how excited he was for the guys coming in, and why. (Snot)

2. About Reaves specifically, he said it would be good having a guy like that line up on their side “for once.”

To me that was huge. Our stars have had to deal with physical intimidation from far lesser players at least since Matt Martin was traded without anyone having their backs. We can debate until the cows come home if they should be Geordie Howe and handle it themselves, but Marners own language is that they missed this. That’s enough for me. Now let’s go see them play a bit bigger.

It’s nice to see an open minded reply about the player instead of the same garbage spewed about him daily. :thumbu:

Excuses. Marner can play great sometimes even without the presence of someone like Martin/Reaves but then all too often in the most important games (game 3 against FLA being the most recent example) he disappears. He was so bad in that game, disappearing would have been better for the team because as it was he was a net negative.

Would be encouraging if he owned his failures, until you acknowledge that a problem exists, there is no hope of fixing it.

Marner shouldnt get more than 11M on 8 years

He is a borderline top 5 winger and a top 15-20 player.

No need to overpay for a guy whose proven to not be a guy you can rely on
Agree 100%.

I remember the days when men really didn't sit around and cry about the likeability of other men. This fanbase has gotten as soft as 10 ply (borrowed from letterkenny)
Public speaking is part of being a leader.... He is representing the team, as an assistant caption and one of the too three paid players on the team. Athletes are actually coached on how to speak to media. Clearly sports franchises see it as an important ability.

Lol is this for real? Him and O'Reilly had some great early chemistry going but his broken finger messed that all up
