Is Moldenhauer committed to playing in the NCAA next season?
According to the athletic article, he is staying in ushl for one more year before choosing an ncaa team.

Edit: I had to look up to see that nolan walker was still in the organization. I thought he was traded to edmonton for a conditional pick. Apparently, i got him and nolan vesey mixed up.

Anybody have any insight on Braeden Kressler? I haven't read much of him and judging by his statlines, nothing seems to pop out. Is there something MGMT sees in him?

Aggressive penalty killing. Best penalty killer in the organization by far. Plays with a lot of effort. Skates fast i think? Lacks creativity, skill, and weight. I’ve said this a bunch of times, but if he makes it, he’ll be of a very small cohort (no pun intended) to make it.

Fair assessment from my view as well, spot on. He definitely is a fast tenacious skater.

He also has to stay healthy. I don't think his stat line last season was indicative of his ability to produce because he can make plays offensively but definitely needs a big season coming up.

He reminds me of Tyler Motte a lot if we're talking about style of play.

I don't think he throws as many hits as Motte.

I think Colin Blackwell is a nice comparison, except I think Kressler can stick at center.

Any info around if the Hildeby pick was influened by new goal tending scout? Guy had two minor hip surgeries that probably affected his progress but maybe someone saw the whole picture and said take a shot at him, or was he just BPA at that pick?

He’s a 6’6 goalie, who’s had success in the SHL, his development curve is already miles ahead of the rest of the goalies in the draft. Plus the height. He’s a good project to work with. Plus you add in the fact that he can be brought to the team within 1 year and be completely in the system, it was a no brainer I think

Leafs ranking number 11 seems way too high. Prospect criteria also seems weird if they're considering Samsonov a prospect.

I think it's about right and good on Dubas for keeping the cupboards full with what he's had to work with.

Samsonov has only played 59 NHL games, so why wouldn't he be considered a prospect?

the leafs system ranks high because (as you can see from the chart in the tweet), while there's not a huge amount of star power in their prospects, there's quite a few who project to make the NHL in general.

he's 25 and has played 89 regular season games over the last three years.

He has played 89 NHL games and 8 playoff games. I don't think he is really a "prospect", but I don't think he was considered anyways.

We have had some really bad luck with some really good prospects in there too (Scott injury, Amirov illness, etc.) which is bringing us down in the star and goalie categories a bit. We also have some goalies on AHL contracts which would raise our weakest ranking if they are signed.

Our drafting is really good to the point where we do not need high picks to get great prospects, but we can get better at drafting goalies (and I want to be clear, that does not mean we need to draft "more" goalies; we need to start drafting "better" goalies) and Russians. We can also get back to drafting Swedes more often, given that before Hildeby, our last Swedish picks were Holmberg and Sandin and both are NHL options 4 years later. At the same time, we have been getting some really good Finns in the meantime and there hasn't been great Swedish depth the past few years.

I think we are going back to not going after rentals (or at least bringing in guys we want to re-sign, like Giordano). Blackwell was a toss-in for Gio and Lyubushkin doubled as a cap dump so that was slightly different, but I do not think we are getting another repeat of the Covid years... And if we go after rentals, it will probably be due to injury or maybe getting a bit of added depth for late round picks or depth prospects.

The tweet did mention acquiring samsonov helped the ranking.
I feel he's on the tail end of prospect status but that's not really important.
What is important are all the points you touched on and thankfully we are competent in finding talent

I have an irrational amount of expectation for Knies.

I hope to hell he makes it on the Leafs

I think taking a bit more time in the NCAA was the right call, kinda think of it as cooking another half year in the AHL and joining later in the season except it's the NCAA and he will be in the gym more.

I’m absolutely shocked they don’t have all of Robertsons goals from the ahl this year, or even a general highlight package…

Cool. Get some fresh blood in.

He has only been here 7 years and I would say has done a fairly good job (outside of Russia).

Korshkov
Grundstrom
Chebykin
Liljegren
(Rasanen)
(Bobylev)
Kara
(Sandin)
(Kral)
Holmberg
Kizimov
Kokkonen
(Abramov)
Loponen
Amirov
Hirvonen
Niemela
Akhtyamov
Ovchinnikov
Miettinen
Rindell
Peksa
Hildeby
Grebyonkin

Honestly, take out that **** Russian record and that is a pretty strong group of prospects. The thing is, I doubt Bergman, Jelinek, and Hedlund need help covering the rest of Europe, and our Russian record has been so bad despite two separate iterations of Russian scouts under Vuori that perhaps they are finally fed up with it? But at that point, why spend another mid round pick on a long-shot Russian prospect when you know you are batting 0?

Didn't Sandin play for the Soo? I don't know if he gets credit for that.

Amirov pick was attributed to Paliafito IIRC. He may have the say on Hirvonen and Niemela and I like them both.

Brackets are import picks.

Scouts look at guys before their draft year, and Sandin even spent a brief time in Sweden before going to the Soo.

It was probably a mix.

Paliafito was more of a negotiator. He did some scouting, but it was more for guys he wanted to sign (Mikheyev, Zaitsev, etc.) than guys like Amirov. Although I am sure he did see Amirov on occasion, as did many other scouts in the organization. He was a top.prospect and played a lot internationally.

I find there's barely any Leafs prospect highlight videos anymore. There was someone on here who would create them but forget who it was, they were great videos except there was usually some horrible heavy metal as the background music.
