He has played 89 NHL games and 8 playoff games. I don't think he is really a "prospect", but I don't think he was considered anyways.

We have had some really bad luck with some really good prospects in there too (Scott injury, Amirov illness, etc.) which is bringing us down in the star and goalie categories a bit. We also have some goalies on AHL contracts which would raise our weakest ranking if they are signed.

Our drafting is really good to the point where we do not need high picks to get great prospects, but we can get better at drafting goalies (and I want to be clear, that does not mean we need to draft "more" goalies; we need to start drafting "better" goalies) and Russians. We can also get back to drafting Swedes more often, given that before Hildeby, our last Swedish picks were Holmberg and Sandin and both are NHL options 4 years later. At the same time, we have been getting some really good Finns in the meantime and there hasn't been great Swedish depth the past few years.

I think we are going back to not going after rentals (or at least bringing in guys we want to re-sign, like Giordano). Blackwell was a toss-in for Gio and Lyubushkin doubled as a cap dump so that was slightly different, but I do not think we are getting another repeat of the Covid years... And if we go after rentals, it will probably be due to injury or maybe getting a bit of added depth for late round picks or depth prospects.

Imo the problem is our bottom end of the lineup/AHL tweener group is so bloated that when we draft those 100+ GP players, we end up losing an absurd amount of them on waivers. The drafting is good but it doesn't help the team as much as it should on paper. We either need to get those 100+GP targets hitting big development spikes into top-6ers or trading them into more assets than we spent on drafting them. Brooks, Anderson/Steeves this year, those kinds of guys ought to bring back a mid round pick at least, but teams know we're too deep to give them serious playing time and they can get them on waivers eventually.

Steeves is waiver exempt, and Brooks wasn't special enough.

This is also a side effect of top heavy cap teams and the flat cap.
The bottom of the market floods, making competition thick for those spots.
I’m hoping a few guys this year break through.

Brooks was just too small and slow to be of much use at the bottom of the lineup. And not enough skill to be a quality scorer.

Joey fits in a bottom 6 role much better and scores more than Brooks in the AHL anyways.

Brooks AHL 147gms, 21gl/44pt pace

It sucks that the Leafs don't stream their development camp, or at least the scrimmages. I saw quite a few times were doing that this year and it was nice to see.

they did stream the scrimmage, but only on their app. and it didn't work.

It was comical last year when Brooks got claimed off waivers and people around the Trade/Free Agent thread were acting like this was the biggest mismanagement of a young player in NHL history.

That thread is hilarious to go back and read.

Every waiver claim is going to end up like Martin St. Louis and every guy the Leafs give up on will come back to haunt them by scoring 10 goals in a game against them. It's the same old story. lol

Ian Scott retired. Sad sad way to retire.

Poor guy. Wish him the best truly, that's not an easy decision to make and I'm sure he agonized over it. I respect him for not further destroying himself physically and mentally to try and force the dream.

I dunno about the first part of your post...but they do tend to score on us whenever they come back

Just watched a Fraser Minton interview from development camp. You can tell he is an extremely intelligent kid. Sounds like the reporters spotted him throughout camp directing guys in drills and in plays. He has the look of a quiet shy kid, but I am getting the sense that he is a sneaky leader.

I was not a fan of the selection at 38OA, but I feel like I am starting to see why the Leafs brass were so high on him. Very hard to teach IQ.

I'm excited to see how he develops

LOL, it's just how everyone acts with any tweener. Like if only the Leafs had given player x from the AHL some time with the big club, then he would turn in to a 15-20 goal guy. But yeah, any guy that gets traded from a team or lost on waivers from a team wants to come back and show them what they're missing.

Looks like we will have some Marlies in the scrimmage tomorrow. SDA will be playing it seems. Hope we see Abramov and Douglas too.

I don't really care about too many of the invites, and I want to see the better ones (Fimis, Larsen, Jelsma, De St Phalle) go up against our main guys. If they start looking good against the more experienced guys, then we can start talking about considering them for the rookie tournament roster and perhaps an ELC.

What time is the scrimmage tomorrow and where can it be watches?

All of the goalies looked good throughout the scrimmage on Tuesday, especially newly-drafted and signed goaltending prospect Dennis Hildeby.

The almost six-foot-six netminder brings a lot to the Leafs organization, and it’s not just his height. His ability to always be square to the puck while moving around with that size has been something I’ve noticed early on

Tverberg was one of the players who’s stood out throughout Leafs development camp, but never got on the board in the first scrimmage. Along with him, there are a number of other players who’ve looked good but didn’t produce in the first showing.
