Any word on Amriov? I saw he's not been in the lineup 5 straight games? Do we know if he's injured? Sick? Healthy scratched?

If it's the latter, I imagine he and his agent may look to get him a release from his contract so he can come to N/A.

Some of our NA prospects playing today:

Minnesota plays at 5pm today (Knies, Koster)
St. Cloud plays at 6pm (Miettinen)
Flint plays at 7pm (Kressler)

I believe the Marlies have an exhibition game today. Not sure if it's being streamed.

Knies is going to be an absolute stallion out there. Can’t believe we got him when we did.

once again, getting value out of the picks we have in the mid rounds

Toronto Marlies depth chart 1.0: Expect a shift toward prioritizing development and opportunities for prospects - The Athletic

This season could mark the return to Marlies’ lineups going heavy on prospects and the team serving as a vehicle for development first and foremost. And the chance to see some of the team’s prospects, including Nick Robertson, Semyon Der-Arguchintsev, Mikhail Abramov and Filip Kral take steps forward in their first full AHL season is reason enough for the sense of optimism around the Marlies these days.

Not only could Moore and the coaching staff possibly hand the keys over to their prospects and expect them not just to log valuable minutes, they could fill that leadership role in the dressing room themselves, as Robertson did throughout the recent Leafs development camp.

“As everybody knows, if you focus on the process and the development, the winning should take care of itself,” Moore said.

New Marlies general manager Ryan Hardy said when he was hired that he and Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas “are unified in this mindset of believing that investing in development of our players and our people is what will ultimately lead to success on the ice.”

Hardy comes from one of the more renowned player development programs in North American hockey, the USHL’s Chicago Steel.

And Moore himself spent a season-and-a-half coaching for the Steel.

“My entire mentality has been, ‘How are we developing hockey players, and through that process, how are we finding the results?’” said Moore. “Hopefully we can continue with that this year.”

While there are still a few cuts coming with the Maple Leafs, those cuts should be free of any major surprises.

So ahead of the start of their preseason on Saturday, we’ve now got a decent idea of what the Marlies could look like this season as they attempt something of an organizational reset and return to the Calder Cup playoffs.

6 million in dead cap was always going to be an issue, whether they had Tavares or not. I'm sure a lot of people would consider it an issue if Marleau stopped Dubas from bringing Tavares to the Leafs

But it didn't stop him so thats kind of a moot point. Plus it wasn't 2011 when they had Grabo and Boz as their two top centers and had an actual need to buy a top center on the FA market. JT was a popular get because he is JT and he wanted to come home but how many people though it was a real need for a club with three elite young forwards and no elite young D? I have said before I doubt Kyle had any idea he was going to get bent over by the kids on their second deals. A combination of Willies greed, Marners huge success with JT, and perhaps agents in general wanting to raise the bar for their second contracts added a few million that the club thought they were going to have to use.

People are saying Lou should have known the big three were going to need new deals when he signed Marleau, what about KD when he signed JT? He was a rookie GM and he got caught by the $40M he spent on four guys, not the $6.25M Lou spent before that. The Dubas bashing for things he did in his first year is so old I am sick of it, as is defending Lou for anything and this isn't either. But using "what if they hadn't spent" arguments needs to start with the biggest and most recent spending an organization did before the problems happened.

I don't think KD was worried about the Marleau deal when he signed JT and probably not even after the Willie signing, but the landscape was shifting all the time. Dubas wasn't part of the old boys network for sure, and probably unloved for the contracts he handed out so it isn't a stretch to say he had worse options than Lou might have had to move the Marleau deal if he needed that cap space. We don't know what Kyle or Lou were planning but people have been discussing this as though the two GMs involved were clueless and had no concept of consequences and I doubt that is correct.

Anyways sorry for making the prospects thread into a GM discussion. I will save any future discussion of this for another Dubas bashing thread. Go Ovchinnikov!!

Marlies have a pre-season game at 4, it should be streaming on AHL Live if anyone has purchased it.

You can tell Knies skill level is very high just from short clips.

That first goal where he enters the zone but with the defender about to close the lane, he almost stops up, slows down and moves himself into a better and prime area to get a shot off. That is a very impressive little sequence that you only usually see from insanely talented offensive players.

If his footspeed is good he could really become a quality NHL'er.

I’m hoping he’s like a Kreider for us

I really hope we target a high end C prospect in the next draft, I’m worried about the succession plan for JT. I think it’d be ideal to nab a guy like Paul Ludwinski or Pano Fimis.

@kyle_cush. Quite the eventful game for #Leafs prospect Axel Rindell today inn Jukurit's 8-2 loss against Tappara. Rindell was on-ice for 8 goals, both Jukurit goals and 6 Tappara goals. Finished a -4 in 21:09 TOI

Kreider is more of an all-speed guy.

Knies is a better skater than advertised but he's not a speed-based guy like kreider. Much more of a hands type player.
From the few times, I've seen him play and in highlight packages, Knies seems like a guy who has more IQ and is less physically gifted than Kreider. Kreider came into the league as one of the top skaters with size and pretty good hands. He had the ability to blow up into a monster power forward but hasn't really developed a ton past his full 3rd/4th seasons. Similar to JVR too. Both of these guys were content with earning a paycheque and just being a role player who chips in here and there. Both are allergic to laying the body. Knies seems to have a better motor than both of those guys and is learning how to effectively use his body. I think he has the skills and works ethic to be a very good player for us, he just needs to learn and develop his power game. With the size and speed he possesses, he can be an absolute force. In his interviews pre-draft, many including Knies himself said that he models his game after a guy like Brandon Saad. Who is another big body, smarts type of guy who plays way softer and smaller than his size. Hopefully, Knies can be more physical.
