Does anyone know why Rochette was let go from camp? Did he just not have a good camp or? I love the player wish he would’ve been in traverse city.

His comments in the news yesterday.

Theo Rochette's first experience in an NHL camp was short-lived, but, in six days, the Quebec Remparts forward believes he has brought back in his luggage experience that will help him reach another level this season.

Ignored in the last two drafts, Rochette attended the Toronto Maple Leafs development camp, from where he was cut last Monday.

“It was a great experience. There were good coaches on the ice and they talked to us a lot, tried to help us work out certain details, ”said the man who took part in his first practice on Wednesday since returning from Toronto.

Rochette admitted that he was not as disappointed as last year when, for the second year in a row, no NHL team mentioned his name in the seven rounds of the draft.

This is the right attitude to have, says Patrick Roy. According to the coach, a career at the pro level is far from impossible for Rochette.

“At the end of the day, that’s the experience he had to have there in order to know what he needs to improve in his game to be successful. In his case, his chances of playing pro may shift more towards signing a contract as a free agent, much like [Jonathan] Marchessault and [Yanni] Gourde did. These are the kind of players who, even if they are not drafted, can enter the pros through a different door. "

Physical game

In speaking with various recruiters who work in the QMJHL, Rochette said that he still has not been drafted because questions remain about his ability to be physically involved in games.

That, Rochette knows. The Leafs even reminded him of this when he was sent back to Quebec.

"They told me that I was very talented and that made me a unique player but that they wanted to see more of my physical game again," he explained.

The Canado-Suisse went to great lengths during the summer to add muscle mass, which allowed him to come to camp "7 or 8 lbs" heavier than last year.

“I have to keep working on my physical game. Without going through guys, I have to be more physical especially by doing blocks with my body. "

The key

For Roy, this is the key to moving forward in the case of his No. 9.

“The NHL teams want to see that from him. They want to see if he can adapt his style of play. Theo has so much offensive skills, he moves the puck well and sees the game well. I expect a good season from him offensively. I don't give a damn about his points production but I expect him to be an important part of our team in terms of consistency game after game. "

Remparts: de l’expérience en banque pour Théo Rochette

A good hard shot from the blueline, could be useful if the rest of his game rounds out.

Also saw this note from Kyle Cushman on Twitter re: Axel Rindell

"#Leafs prospect Axel Rindell led Jukurit with 24:11 TOI and scored his first goal of the season today in a 6-2 loss against Pelicans Rindell had 2 shots on goal, including the hardest shot of the game at 147.0 km/h (90.3 mph)."

Good to see him getting every opportunity to flourish, albeit on what looks to be a f***ing terrible team.

We can't have this continually happen for Dmitri. There really has to be a better option for him. Even if he does get a shift or 2, what is the development that he is really getting from that?

can we not bring him over? I don't think he has his rights owned by a CHL club, could he not play with the Marlies?

It's not that simple. He probably doesn't have much interest in playing for the Marlies. He's getting a paycheck and he's probably going to play at some point.

CHL is not an option and if he is struggling to get a shift on Sibir, he has no chance to get a shift on the Marlies unless we specifically hand him one. The Marlies are not exactly thin on the wings right now.

I agree with what everyone is saying here but it absolutely sucks from a development point of view.

Is this guy a legit prospect now?

At 24 years old he's less a prospect and moreso a Mikyeyev/Barabanov/Semyonov that we don't have to compete for IMO. If he can show that this isn't just a hot stretch (not by keeping up a goal per game, but by being a legitimate KHL top 6er) for a year or two he'll get a 1 year ELC, come over and either make the team or not.

He garnered a ton of hype last year but people have to remember that there are probably a half dozen prospects just like him that come out of Russia every year, and realistically none of them make the NHL. I am sure he will become a solid KHLer at some point, but this board ranked him as our 13th best prospect when he is probably not even in the top 20.

Ya I recognize that he is getting paid, But could we not sign him to a 2-way AHL-ECHL deal for the year? My understanding is that there is no limit to a player contract when it's done this way. We could match whatever he is making, and have his development under our control.

the only thing I don't know with respect to that is can a player be signed to an AHL deal if they were drafted by us? or do they have to be tendered an ELC instead? Do we even have an available contract spot to be able to give an ELC out as well.

I won't pretend like I have any answers at all. All I know is stapling him to the bench game in and game out is something I am sure the Leafs are not thrilled with. You'd have to think there will be some form of intervention there. Not to mention, I am sure Dmitri isn't stoked about it either.
