They can but it depends entirely on scheduling. School just started and development camp is later than usual due to COVID.
That, and (unless this has changed, as I know NCAA has laxed some rules) NCAA players have to pay their own way to and through the dev camp. So it could potentially come down to Knies not wanting/being able to make it for his own personal or financial reasons

Not sure if it takes effect this year, or if it was last year, but the NCAA has ruled that players are now allowed to make money through their sport. I think mostly in terms of sponsorships, for example EA Sports NCAA football and basketball games will feature real players again and the players will be paid for it.

Random question, after looking at our reserve list. I noticed that we still technically own Fabrice Herzog's rights. Why haven't we ever tried to bring him over even just for a PTO.

The guy has had pretty productive recent seasons, last year he led Davos in goals. I remember back in the day I thought he could be a decent scoring power-forward for us. Obviously, he likely never comes over nor amounts to anything more than a good NLA player, but I've always wondered why has he never been given he shot.

Probably a mix of he's not really that good and he doesn't want to play in the AHL.

LW Michael Bunting – C Auston Matthews – RW Mitch Marner
LW Nick Ritchie – C John Tavares – RW William Nylander
LW Alex Kerfoot – C David Kampf – RW Ondrej Kase
LW Ilya Mikheyev – C Kirill Semyonov – RW Jason Spezza
RW Wayne Simmonds/LW/C Pierre Engvall

That is the Leafs' depth chart right now. Brooks is not a permanent graduate. If anything, he is more likely to be on the Marlies again than on the Leafs. I don't see Robertson being a mid-season callup barring injuries or a guy like Bunting sucking. Amadio too may get a call up, but he is likely not going to get claimed on waivers and even then, he is a center. Ovchinnikov is a winger.

LW Nick Robertson – C Adam Brooks – RW Joey Anderson
LW Pavel Gogolev – C Semyon Der-Arguchintsev – RW Marc Michaelis
LW Antti Suomela – C Michael Amadio – RW Alex Steeves
LW Brett Seney – C Mikhail Abramov – RW Jeremy McKenna
LW Jack Kopacka - C Curtis Douglas – RW Kurtis Gabriel
LW Rich Clune

Plus Chyzowski, McMann, Power, O'Brien, and Green on the Growlers and Ho-Sang as a PTO.

He would not be getting full time playing opportunities with the Marlies either. He is not good enough to play in the top 6, and he is not exactly a bottom 6 type of player. So he is either taking away opportunities from other young players, or is playing ahead of one of the few veterans we have in the lineup who likely plays a role that Ovchinnikov is not suited to handle right now. So he would have to go to the Growlers, likely full time.
just out of curiosity (cause i dont know anything about semyonov) but why does he get a spot over brooks? i mean brooks has already played some games in the nhl with toronto.

If you can find his contract details you will probably find your answer. Players in NLA get paid a pretty good amount, most definitely more than he would playing AHL, and it is also a better place to live (subjectively I guess).

He's played with Mikheyev for a long time in the KHL, he wins draws (Brooks is not a faceoff specialist or anything), he is somewhat gritty, and he is going to be given an opportunity to play just like Barabanov and Lehtonen were. That does not mean he keeps the job, but he's going to be in the NHL short of totally sucking in camp.

Brooks is likely going to end up in the AHL. He is solid depth, but I doubt other teams are going jump over themselves to claim a guy like him. Joey Anderson is a better waiver claim, and he is likely ending up on waivers himself.

There’s also the concession that players ask agents to negotiate into contracts. Agents can ask for guaranteed playing time (e.g. minimum 5-10 games with 10 minutes played) for their players and toronto gms have honored it in the past. A possible example is Cas.ey Bai.ley, top ncaa free agent signing from years past.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
Ritchie-Kampf-Kase
Mikheyev-Semyonov/Spezza-Anderson

Not a good start, but nothing to worry about. It’s a long road before his development curve approaches serious interest.

hes 23 ... plus he has 2 years of "proffessional" hockey (AHL) experience already .
he doesnt need development camp

I didn't see him play hardly at all last year, but the Leafs and dev staff did. If they think he needs to go to dev camp perhaps he does?

Are there going to be any scrimmages streamed or televised anyone know? Or just the games for the tournament?
Detroit should be livestreaming their tournament on their website - or at least that's what I was told when I reached out to the Centre Ice Arena marketing director to see if they had a deal to show the games. Not sure if the other participating teams will access to host the stream too, but DET should at least, it sounds

Detroit usually does. They have an excellent social media presence. Their games were streamed last time as well. Unfortunately, we don't play Detroit, but there is hope the tournament will be streamed in it's entirety.
