Don't think it requires a new thread but since he was the Head Amateur scout, Tim Speltz got hired to be the AHL GM of the Golden Knights.

Another scout leaving this off season to a promotion somewhere else.

Troy Bodie, John Lilley, and now Speltz
Speaks to the system and program we've built.
Hopefully we can continue the pattern of growth and development with their replacements

After speltz was drafted, only ian scott, kral, and stotts were drafted. Stotts is the weird pick. A year or two after, the senators and canucks drafted stotts’ overage teammates and they’re already playing in the ahl.

EDIT: Hired instead of drafted.

with the KHL season starting up, does anyone know the status of where our guys are going to be playing? I know Amirov is on the shelf for a little while but was tracking for a bigger role with UFA. Which is super encouraging. What about Ovi? Did he make the KHL club Sibir? I saw some highlights of his in the preseason on twitter, looked to be doing well. Not sure if he made enough of an impression to get a regular look in the KHL this year or not. What about our boys Peska and Artur? hopefully they aren't sharing the cage on the same team. Not sure I really care where they are playing as long as they are both getting regular minutes and not boxing one another out.

I have tried to search online for this type of news but I can't find it.

I think Ovechnikov and Artur made their KHL clubs but who knows if they'll get much playing time. Arturs team plays tomorrow at noon our time I believe and Ovechnikov plays Friday at 8 am our time I believe so maybe someone can watch the stream if they're home and see if they play or not. I'll probably tune in on Saturday and Sunday to check in myself since I have the weekends off.

Kazan carrying 3 goalies is bad for us. Bilyalov and Bobkkov are legit KHL goaltenders and will definitely play so long as they are healthy.

Or something is terribly wrong with our goaltending development. Our last successful goaltending project was james reimer btw (and yes he is successful as he has played 11 seasons and gave us 3 good seasons).

If you listen to the Jonathan Bernier interview on In Goal magazine, he talked about how Rick St. Croix wasn't a very good technical teacher during his time here in Toronto and basically rebuilt his game in Colorado. I've also heard mixed reviews on HFBoards about Steve Briere's effectiveness, though Jack Campbell has said good things.

I can't see Campbell speaking ill of anyone.

I wish we would get a goalie coach who was a recent former player like Sean Burke. They had Jose Theodore on Spittin Chiclets this week and he said his best goalie coach was Jeff Hackett. He was his teammate when he was young and he ended up hiring Hackett when he retired from playing and took him with him for multiple teams. He said he helped to keep pushing him through good and bad.

for f*** sakes. this better not be a sign of what's to come
He's 5 years younger than any other forward in the lineup, not ideal for his development but not surprising either given how young players are used in the KHL.

Interestingly Sibir is running a very young D corp, not sure if that's by design or due to injuries or other issues but they have a 20 year old rookie on the top pair, a 22 year old rookie on the 2nd pair, and a 22 year old in his 3rd KHL season on the 3rd paid.

Ya that League owes us and our player development absolutely nothing. Which does really suck. I recognize to them he represents their Robertson to them. Wherein he has the promise and skill to play at the highest level, but there are question marks regarding his strength and durability. What sucks is that they seem totally comfortable HS'ing NA bound youth because it ultimately will not make a difference to them in the long run. I really don't care a ton where Dmitri plays this year as long as he was involved. Much rather him play in the top 6 of the VHL than sitting in the stands in the K.

Just wish there was a better relationship between the 2 leagues. Seems to happen to a lot of Russian prospect's not just ours

Outside of Vasilevsky, all of those guys played 20+ games in their D+1 years.

And in Vasilevsky's case, he is 9 months younger than Akhtyamov when he started his D+2.

The 10 game threshold is a bit arbitrary too. Either guys completely blow past it, or fall just short of it, like Vasilevsky and Shestyorkin (and a number of guys who are not that good).

Unless he can be a legit starter by this year, he is not on track with those guys, or any NHL goalie from the KHL.

He would need to A) steal the starting job, and B) considering the team he plays on, put up outstanding numbers for me to start getting excited about him.

But it also needs to happen this year.

Igor Bobkov has been quite good the last few years so he should have a strong stranglehold on the job, also got a shutout in his first game yesterday.

Looks like he ended up a healthy scratch today.

I'd expect the Leafs to officially announce their prospect camp/tournament roster very soon. Most teams have. We have an idea right now though.

The one thing we don't have this year is many "great" players making the jump from overseas/junior outside of Abramov. One player that I think will be interesting full time in the AHL is SDA and I'm hoping he is at the tournament.

SDA is interesting, frankly his play in the OHL has been underwhelming but every time he's had a chance to play above the OHL, whether prospect camps, AHL or KHL, he's looked good.

Of course those are all very small sample sizes, so this year we'll see if it was a fluke or he actually is one of those rare players who play "better" at the pro level.

Besides the obvious and high draft picks like Sandin and Lilly.

Is no one fighting for a spot from 2017 and 2018 draft class ?

I didn't know where to put this
Brett Brouchu G london knights when undrafted last year .
I know he dosnt have the size of what the NHL is looking for but this kid never never gives up on the play.
Just watching the knights game tonight crazy saves .
We should have used a late pick on him.
