This is only including the guys who have started so far.

Overlooked in Dubas' busy off-season are the signings of McCourt, Hoefenmayer and McKenna (AHL deals). I think all three are promising and to a lesser extent - but still worth a flier - is Chartier.

IMO, McCourt is going to be one of the sneakier signings this summer/fall. If I had to bet on one guy from that grouping to make the NHL long-term, it'd be him. 5th in OHL scoring among D (18 goals) as a 19 year old, nearly PPG in his final season, and interestingly his father Mike McCourt was a former coach in the OHL. Byron Bader, who seems to have a decent grasp on projecting prospects, referenced his as one of the reasons the Leafs have a top 5 pool, which most would agree is bullish but still worth noting.

His issues are very similar to Hoefenmayer's. Needs a lot of work defensively and probably needs work on his skating to make up for his size (5'11"/6'0" and ~175 lbs) before seriously competing with a guy like Kral for future opportunities on that LD.

Leafs probably hope one of him, Hoefenmayer and Kral can turn into something. At least he and Hoefenmayer turn out similar to whatever Duszak becomes.

Wheeler just released his WJC roster and predictions.

Robertson is a lock obviously and has him on the 2nd line with Turcotte and Brink.

He has Artur getting the backup spot for Russia, but says not representing Russia in international play could work against him.
Also has Abramov making the team as the 2nd line C. Has Amirov on the 1st line.

He has Hirvonen and Miettenen making the team and on the 2nd line, but doesn't think Miettenen is a lock. He thinks he should be because he can close the gap in skill level from the other teams.
He also has Kokkonen and Niemela making the team and paired with each other on the 2nd pair.

Obviously I would expect Amirov to make Russia as well, but otherwise that is pretty much what I expected.

Ovchinnikov was the only other guy who maybe had a major long shot chance.

He doesn't list Amirov?

For some reason people are overlooking the fact that Nick Robertson literally had THE best goals per game season by an 18 year old ever.
and it's not just the increase in OHL scoring. He had a bigger edge over 2nd place than 40 goal scorers like Tavares and DeBrincat.

Personally I'd have Robertson as the best goal scoring prospect in hockey, but I understand it's hard to compare him straight up to Caufield because they play in different leagues. Saying that Kaliyev is better is just annoying though

Bobylyov/Chebykin (VHL) scheduled to play tomorrow 9AM EST.

Lehtonen (KHL) scheduled to play at 11:30AM EST, but is likely out -- suspected COVID-19 at this point.

I said this in the mainboard polls awhile ago, when someone said Holtz was easily the best goal scorer left on the list. I asked what makes him so much better than Robertson or Caulfield, and they basically said I've watched Holtz a lot he just is. Then Holtz got voted #19th, Robertson still yet to be seen and they're on poll #30.

Robertson ain't getting on that list. Leafs players won't see that list.

The best way to enjoy Nick Robertson is to see him blossom into a 25 or 30 or 40 goal man or whatever he's destined to be at the NHL level, as opposed to comparing him to draft rankings and bragging rights vs a guy like Holtz who wasn't even in his draft class.

Tbh...

Robertson: could be a 35-45 goal scorer, I think realistically we're looking 25-30 though
Caulfield: could be a 40-50 goal scorer, I think you're seeing a consistent 35
Kaliyev: could be a consistent 50 goal scorer in the perfect situation but is likely 20-30 if not an outright bust
Holtz: Peak could be 40, averages 30 a year is what I see his realistic as

I think all 4 are realistically within 5-10 goals of each other ultimately. Robertsons game will be toughest to translate because he plays a style not super conducive to his style, while Holtz is easiest to translate but with the lowest peak. Kalieyev is an Ovi style, rip it from certain spots guy with major issues. Caulfield is honestly the best of the 4 overall bc of his overall creativity.

Lowest average score being the best:
Caulfield: 2
Holtz: 2.5
Robertson: 2.5
Kaliyev: 3

This is strictly goal wise, not playmaking/two way ability

What's critically important about these deals is it keeps up a secondary pipeline of talent. Sometimes you luck out and find a Philippe Myers.

Caufield reminds me of a young Kessel. I don't think he's got a good enough supporting cast/ play makers in Montreal to help him be a consistent 40 goals guy. But I think he can hit consistent 30-35 goals and 70-75 points a year.

Robertson reminds me a lot of a Brayden Point/ DeBrincat type. I think his peak is probably higher than a guy like Caufield. I just don't know if he will consistently keep it that high. However of all the 2 players, he's got a shot at having the best potential linemates in the NHL. He'll probably get a shot with guys like Marner, Nylander, JT, AM.

Going to the main boards to see if other fans are willing to agree that our second round pick is equivalent to a top four pick in upside isn’t the best way to make friends. Just enjoy what you have.
