Also Rasanen through 4 games, his CF% is 35.1. Can't judge underlying numbers after such a small sample size, but that better pick up.

They aren't going to play non-contact hockey. That doesn't make sense.

When the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), one of the three major junior leagues in Canada, resumes play, bodychecking will not be allowed in league play this season. According to the Associated Press, Lisa MacLeod, Ontario’s Minister of Sport said that “removing purposeful physical contact is a necessity for all sports in the province to slow the spread of COVID-19.” T

The decision came just after the OHL announced that they plan on resuming play on February 4, 2021. They had originally set a target day of December 1. This decision comes from the Ontario government and it’s unclear how the OHL will embrace this ruling. The league said that they will follow the advice of scientific studies as they work on getting back in action.

Getting Hirvonen AND Niemela in the second round was fantastic work.
He looks slick.
I’m not super high on Hirvonen. Being 5’9 and a bad skater is a bad combination in the NHL. He may not be able to play center at the nhl level and his style of play may not be as effective on the wing. I hope he proves me wrong, I’ve been wrong before.

I don't care if you don't like him or if he does not make it, but his skating is considered to be pretty good.

This draft will likely produce several NHL players for us.

It’s going to be an underrated draft for a couple years as most of the draftees are overseas (and another factor not worth mentioning).

Like, if Amirov played in the OHL, 1. He may not have made it to us and 2. Most people here would be far more hype for him

I would be more concerned with his relative. His team is awful, so a lot of Corsi's on that team probably suck.

Especially guys like him who are probably not getting offensive opportunities.

Final stats from the Hirvonen Niemela game.
Hirvonen 1 goal in 13:47 of ice time.
Niemela 1 assist in 13:10 of ice time

Yeah it's too early to conclude anything, but after some time he needs to take a step. If he is like this at the end of the season, then it's not looking good for him as a prospect.

Here’s my source for his bad skating

I don't really see bad skating here. He might not be really fast but he has good edges and mobility. It looked like a lot of the defenders were having trouble containing him because of how shifty he is. Kadri isn't exactly super fast but plays more of an east/west style as well.

Amirov for sure gets underrated. Remember how much hype Denisenko had in the 2018 draft from teams 15 onward? Amirov completely blew his draft season out of the water and is a significantly better two way player to boot. The fact he's even sticking on a KHL roster this soon and holding his own is amazing. He likely puts up 1.8 ppg plus if he was in the CHL this season.

Him being in his 4th game sounds like the moral victory.

That's not a bad skater. He could use some more explosiveness and acceleration but he's still quick, shift, and got really good edges. He's got some potential based on that alone. Did you ever see Garland in the Q? Not the most explosive skater either back then but has improved upon it and he's now in the NHL. I'm not saying he will turn out like Garland but their skating is comparable. Another example is Brown. He wasn't the most shifty or explosive skater in the OHL but worked on the speed enough to get him to the NHL. Will he ever do it? We won't ever know for a few years from now but I would definitely give him the benefit of the doubt right now.

To say he is a bad skater is a massive understatement though. He's far from it. He looks to have really good technique but needs some more explosiveness and strength to improve his acceleration and top-end speed.

We need to get him over to North American hockey next season.

How's he supposed to properly develop when he doesnt even see consistent icetime?.

And this isnt just some isolated incident. It happens all the time in the KHL where young players dont get the icetime they deserve.

He's so early in his development that he should be on a team where hes getting frontline minutes where he can build confidence and still improve his skills.

We arent developing him to be some 3rd line grinder.

I don't understand why in the KHL, they don't distribute ice time more throughout the lineup. I know Amirov is young but its not like he is a no talent plug like a Colton Orr. Kid has a lot of talent and plays a 2 way game so I don't see the reason for playing him 4-5 min. You would think he would be around 8 minutes.

They love playing vets and theres a huge bias towards them. At least thats what I've heard on this message board for years.

This kid has an elite skillset with the ceiling of being a first line player.

He needs to be getting consistent minutes in prime situations if we want him to reach his full potential and thats how most first rounders are developed.

If he was some late round pick it would be different but we spent a hefty price asset wise and need to have him on a more consistent development path.

Here’s my source for his bad skating

Scouting report from LastWordOnSports.com...

An undersized player, Hirvonen makes up for his lack of size with outstanding skating ability. His feet are very quick, as he has an excellent first step and very good acceleration. A smooth stride leads to Hirvonen generating a lot of speed, especially when he gets a bit of room in the neutral zone. Hirvonen’s ability to change speeds can cause real issues on the rush. If he catches a defenceman flat-footed he can blow by and cut to the net. Hirvonen also has excellent agility. His ability to quickly change directions can also give defenders issues. However, Hirvonen needs to get stronger. He can be knocked off balance and off the puck a bit too much right now. As he adds strength, especially core strength, this should improve.

Prospect of the week #3
Holmberg gets it this week. He had 2 points in 2 games this week. It's his 2nd POW of the season.
