I said the same thing for Barabanov as I did Mikheyev last year.

Normally when you look at a highlight package from a European/Russian free agent signing, they're usually the same and hard to get a gauge on. I.E they only really show the goals and assists.

BUT

When you look at Mikheyev, Barabanov and Lethonen's highlight package, it's so much more than that, which got me super excited. In their highlight packages you could actually see how they are as players from shift to shift, and all 3 are going to fit very nicely on the team(Mikheyev already has).

Barabanov IMHO is going to make the team, he has the puck possession style that the organization loves, he plays in the greasy areas and he has a non-stop motor.

It's easy to understand the minutes he's been getting when you look at that

I was worried about his development after the injury problems he had last season but not only has he not regressed he looks like he's taken a step forward

It would seem the organization has learned how to develop defensemen at long last

I think its just a byproduct of actually selecting skill vs trying to aquire size/physicality thru the draft.

That's an ability that could not only get him in the starting line-up, it could also get him onto lines higher up the line-up as well

That's a complimentary skill a lot of our guys don't excel at
Yeah he seems to be someone who could fit well on a 3rd line. May not score much, but provides energy and puck possession.

We did pick some remarkably large defensemen during Hunter's tenure, pity they all sucked

Just go get the puck, get to the net and be defensively responsible

If he can do that he could get a run as the "complimentary" piece on a "skill" line, there's an opportunity for him if he's good enough to take it

Wyatt Schingoethe was supposed to play 2 ushl games by now, but waterloo couldn’t because coronavirus has been rising in that county.

It looks like john fusco is playing for harvard in this upcoming season. Ncaa games are easier to find than ushl games.

Fusco has a chance to really play some games. Their top 2 defensemen from last season are gone and Henry Thrun (Ducks pick) is far and away the best player left on that defense. Could be a good spot for him.

Villeneuve picked up 2 secondary assists on the PP yesterday.

He lost his positioning on the PK for a GA though.

His stride does look pretty weak though. Needs some major Leafs coaching on that. The rest is definitely there though, as soon as he gets stronger and faster.

Askarov, Amirov and Podkolzin were indeed the stars for Russia... they should do well at the Juniors, and it will be entertaining to watch them, the Finns, and of course Canada, even though we won't have anyone there. Of course, will watch the US though, and I hope Robertson does well, but I can't really cheer for that team.
