Artur Akhtyamov has been playing in the MHL for the last week and has recorded two shutouts in three games - one of the shutouts was from this morning. In the other game he allowed 2 goals in a loss. Would like to see him promoted to the VHL but there is a logjam of goalies on Kazan's team right now.

If he is a true NHL prospect, he should be passing those guys. At least the guys in the VHL.

His stats are better than the other two goalies in the VHL, could be an age thing where the other goalies can't go down to the MHL? I'm not sure how those leagues work though.

His numbers apparently have always been better than his skill level.

I didn't know Tverberg was such a bruiser. That's an interesting element to have in the pool. Mix that with good speed and then his meh offensive production could be overlooked and he may have some potential to be a bottom of the lineup banger.

Two things he needs: Bulking up and a defensive game. If he adds that, then his speed and whatever offensive ability he has will be enough to make him a very effective bottom 6 player.

Kapanen is 6'1", 194 lbs. Tverberg right now is 5'11", 180 lbs. If he gets to 5'11", 190 lbs, then he should have enough bulk to play the physical game without losing his speed.

Good points. Going the NCAA route will give him the opportunity to work on both those things over several years. He will be an interesting prospect to follow.

Legitimate prospects we have in the system in order of NHL readiness:

  1. Robertson
  2. Korshkov
  3. Sandin
  4. Liljegren
  5. Hallander
  6. Amirov
  7. Holmberg
  8. Kokkonen
  9. Hollowell
  10. Niemela
  11. Abramov
  12. Abruzzeze
  13. SDA
  14. Kral
  15. Duszak
  16. Rindell
  17. Hirvonen
  18. Koster
  19. Miettinen
  20. Villeneuve
  21. Ovchinnikov
  22. Tverberg
  23. Schingoethe
  24. Loponen
  25. Fusco

That is A LOT of guys near ready. The bolded are all probably 1-2 years away from getting games, underlined about 3 from getting games, and the rest 4 or more, all dependent on hitting their timelines, but just having 9 guys who could get games within 24 months is wild.

Schingoethe has a hat trick in the 2nd period. I find him hard to evaluate as there is not much that stands out.

Wyatt Schingoethe plays on the first line, first unit pk, and first unit pp. Disregard my earlier post...or waterloo must have switched it up.

on the pp:
- he’s responsible for zone entries, but nothing complicated with what he does. They were successful however
- used on the halfboards, tried a cross-seam pass but failed
- used as a secondary playmaker, but methinks he’s miscast

5v5:
- plays the f2, 2nd forward on the forecheck who reacts to what the f1 does (f1 is the first guy attacking the puck, hyman is prototypical f1 and veeti miettinen is prototypical f3)
- for a guy who’s 5’11 and 200lbs in the ushl, he looks smaller and should be VERY hard to knock over, but i saw him get knocked down twice and pushed around too much
- more of a shooter than playmaker
- at his best when he’s parked in front of the net where he scored a goal and also at his best when he can find space in the slot where he also scored another goal
- okay skater, nothing stood out to me
- i find that he does not really have a skill that stands out. I said the same about tverberg, but looking at both, i think toyberg’s iq and skating stands out a lot more in comparison
- doesn’t really drive a lot of play 5v5 even though he scored a hat trick in my face
- for a guy who’s 5’11 200 lbs in the ushl, he’s not physical

penalty kill:
- only time he plays center
- has lost every faceoff i’ve watched
- okay positioning
- the best part of his game is the pk as i feel waterloo is better off with schingoethe on the pk (i don’t track stats, but i feel this)
- he scored a shorthanded goal where his linemate drove to the net, schingoethe snaps rebound, skates it behind the net away from goalie and dman and backhands it in

ncaa projection: all situations probably, should be used as net front presence or bumper on the pp, he should be a very good pker, 5v5 game needs to improve although he should be fine for ncaa 5v5

I see him as a good ahler. If he makes the nhler, it will be on the bottom six. I don’t see a lot of upside, but he’s one of the few prospects who pk. His size may limit him as a netfront presence in the nhl, but his offence will come from him skating into open high danger spaces.

I will watch fusco next. I think i was too critical last time.

Afanasyev, Rindell, Haarti ja Grönblom jatkavat Jukureissa

Rindell signs a one year extension, so he is not going to come to the Marlies next year it looks like. The Leafs will lose his rights at the end of that extension, so the timeline matches up. With both Hollowell and Duszak likely occupying the Marlies blueline for the next couple of years, it did not really make sense to add Rindell to that as well without moving one of them out.

Kokkonen has not signed an extension with Jukurit, so he may be a candidate to come over next year.

He wasn’t drafted out of the CHL we have his rights for 4 years I believe. I like the idea of him staying anyways. I can’t understand this idea of rushing every prospect that shows any type of promise to the marlies asap. Let him hopefully put up big numbers next year in Finland then re assess.

If you are drafted out of Europe (except Russia) as a D+2, you only get to keep their rights for 2 years.

Where did Wheeler rank the Leafs prospect pool as a whole? Thanks in adv.

Not a bad list.. I think Lily need to be in the top tier with SDA and Villeneauve in a tier lower.

I guess Brooks isn't considered a prospect anymore? Probably should be in that third tier.

I'd have Abramov higher. I think he's going to have a bigger impact than a lot of the players ahead of him. Although they are in the same tier though so I guess it's not that big of a deal.
