The glaring difference, of course... Kral is listed at 175lbs. Kaberle was 215lbs...40lbs is an enormous difference in ability to absorb contact and play below your own goal line and in front of your own net.

If Kral were 18 it would be one thing. But 175lbs at 21, on a 6'1 frame? Jesus.
no way kaberle was 215 @ 21 years old. He was slight and slender when he first came up.

Ya for sure, I am not expecting a Kaberle 2.0...but a man can hope

Admitedly I don't know at what age Kaberle finally reaches 215lbs, but he was bigger than 175lbs at 21 and obviously bulked up considerably over a period of a few years. I've got nothing against Kral, but when I see a guy into his 20's, at that height and with that slender of a build, it's cause for concern.

In hindsight trading Johnsson or Kapanen would definitely have been better... hell in hindisght trading Nylander or even Marner may have been the best decision back then - depends how Jarvis turns out and how our next 3 years go. In hindsight - many things will change for a lot of teams.

This is twisted hindsight. Kapanen and Johnsson were RFA's, and their value was always going to be tied to whatever contract they signed. But unsigned, their value was a second round pick - no more, no less. Any team could provided an offer sheet of up to $4.1m and had they signed them, the Leafs would have either had to match or get a 2nd round pick. They got way more for Kapanen alone.

So no, trading them would have been way worse. At least if you have the benefit of hindsight....use it.

traded 13th pick in a great draft and didnt make the playoffs :naughty:
Yeah, he did it for no reason. It wasn't done cleaning up the stupid mistakes of his predecessor - who proceeded to run like a little b**** from the situation he created.

I would call you out for being a t****, but I just got back. lol

leafs traded Marleau on June 22 and signed Kaps and Mango on June 23. They could have done a sign and trade ... and since when was an offer sheet thrown out to Kaps and Johnsson caliber players? Kaps and johnsson both sign deals with Carolina, no question. Hell Kaps dad played in Carolina for 6 years.

I’m not arguing the could we have done better ... because i think looking back on deals like this in hindsight is plain dumb. What if we did trade Kaps instead and ended up with the 28th pick... people would have said damn we should have traded our first instead!

Agreed.
Hinsight being 20/20, sure Moving Marleau and one of AJ/Kap together would have been a better deal for us.
Instead we moved Marleau, a mid 1st (Jarvis) and AJ for Anderson essentially.

But who knows, maybe without AJ we would have finished even worse and missed the playoffs entirely.. oh wait

I did this 2 years ago too where I would update scores on one message in prospects series deciding games, so may as well.

Game 5
Kometa scores 47 seconds in. 1-0
Vitkovice ties it with 2:47 remaining in the 1st.
1-1 after 1
Kometa takes a 2-1 lead with 2:24 remaining the 2nd.
Kometa still leads 2-1 after 2
Kometa still 2-1 with just over 7 mins remaining.
2:07 left. Vitkovice calls time out and pulls the goalie.
Kometa scores after their player is tripped up on a breakaway on the empty net. 3-1

Kometa wins 3-1 and comes back from 2-0 down and takes the series 3-2. Vitkovice coaches look stunned. Kometa won games 3 and 4 in OT too which makes it even more heartbreaking for Vitkovice.
Kral advances to the 2nd round.

Kral talking about his game and playoffs.
Apparently Vitkovice was paying extra attention to Kral.

On another note, the people on twitter who are seeing the games are raving about Kral. Someone even said he has been the best player from all the teams in the playoffs.

I'm shocked they won a playoff round. I remember looking at that team prior to Kral playing and they were worse than Jukurit-level bad. After Kral came you could see the improvement but they were still baaaaaaad. Not to mention they lost Zboril too.

Kral must have Karlsson-2017 carried that team on his back through round 1. Although I bashed him earlier this season for the first time, let's remember I had him as an early 2nd round pick in his draft year

He traded a first round pick that ended up 13th. That didn't restock Carolina. Lou really crapped thaw bed on the Marleau deal. Not making it out of the qualifying round didn't restock Carolina.

Big if true. Only watched today's game but he was one of the best players on the ice. Led Brno D in TOI with just over 22min. Has a Brodie-esque impact for Kometa - just a highly efficient puck mover that stabilizes his D pairing with a calming presence. Not overly flashy offensively but you can tell he looks to shoot at every opportunity and the opposition play him aggressive/tight at the point because of it.

Did anyone think that Galchenyuk would go this long without getting an audition with the big team? They are either very serious about working on his skating flaws or they don't want him with the big team.

I don't think I've ever seen an AHL team run this long with a goalie who wasn't even a number 1 at the ECHL level.

From the sound bites from Leafs coaches/management about him they seem to be treating his development/rehab (whatever you want to call it) pretty seriously so I'd think it will take a while
