Ritchie had a level of performance with Anaheim and Boston as well as AZ, and these included some pretty strong lineups. I think it has more to do with Keefe not having any affinity for physical players. It isn't an accident that the club gets outhit every night but still performs. This is Keefe hockey. I wish he could incorporate more contact onto the club because it could make them a tougher matchup in the playoffs, but second overall without hitting seems to be working. There is some truth to this though... he found a place that is best for him to "excel". A team devoid of much talent, where his complete lack of speed doesn't matter. It's the best fit for him. This is part of team building too... we talk about bringing in players, but we don't know if they'll fit with us... I'm not even sure how to judge that to be honest. Marginal upgrades, might not be upgrades at all, if they don't find a way to fit.
Don't take me for a Ritchie apologist though because 15 g from a power forward couldn't save his spot with the Ducks or Bs. Maybe he can't contribute in a meaningful way to any winning club.
