Any AHL vet D for the right side to serve as mentors? Any fringe vey NHLers who might serve a mentor role on D, like Shaw seems to be up front?

Gambrel seems like a smart pickup in terms of versatile play who can mentor prospects like Voit and maybe NickRob? Skill driven at one level, complementary at the next.

We did sign Lagesson, who is a LD for that role on the Marlies. I'm not sure who they'll add for RD.

At the moment it's looking like this.

Lagesson Niemela
Rifai Villeneuve
Kokkonen XX

What's the deal with Kai Uchacz? Undrafted 20 year old who put up 50 goals for Red Deer last year. 6'2" as well.
Mostly has to do with being a piece of shit. Mocked and racially abused a teammate to the point that he was kicked off the team.

It was actually stunning that Sam Cosentino (a "prospect analyst") listed him as an underrated player for the 2023 draft considering this information.

Still some work to be done for the Marlies.
And yeah, and there’s Lajoie on the left too. The right side could probably use a mentor type.
I had/have high hopes for Kokkonen making a smooth transition to the A given his pro experience.
Hoping he can make a leap this year.

I'm hoping we give Niemela and Villenueve a lot of ice-time, but we could use a guy like Jason Demers as a vet RD for the Marlies.

The Iowa Wild just poached Brett Budgell on an AHL deal. Thought he was a logical re-sign given his age and production as a guy who could work his way through the system (2001 born and 52 PTS in 72 GP)

The Growlers basically don't have a roster right now.

Any standouts at development camp?

Also, why isn't Ovchinnikov there? Guy has an ELC, and a camp like this could be good for him.

As for grebenkin/Kizimov I get them not being there since they don't have deals yet. But that being said, I wish they were there since guys like Zlodeyev and other khlers are at their respective camps. Would of been nice to see them on smaller ice after both having great seasons in the K.

Having seen this yet …Roster for development camp.

Leafs have signed. (Marlies really)

Maxime Lajoie #LeafsForever

1 year 2-way contract $775k AAV

Breakdown:
2023-24: $775k NHL / $450k minors

He's likely training in Russia or making his necessary steps to move to NA. Development camps are just practices with a lot of classes and information sessions as prospects get ready for the pro life. It ain't that big of a deal.

I do hope we get to see him at the prospect tournament though.

Chase Priskie is still unsigned. Pretty much a quality AHL defender that has bounced around. RHD

Andy Welinski is 30 years old and a RHD. Very minimal NHL experience but a long time AHLer. He'd probably take a high AHL salary to be a Shaw type player on defense.
