Would actually be interesting if we were to bring him in and put him with Willie if it would put a little hitch in his giddy up. Cheap project. Low risk. Send Ritchie the other way.
He could play on the Marlies, he's no where near good enough to dress for the Leafs.

Where does he play on RW? He doesn't bump any of Marner/Nylander/Kase/Spezza out of their spots and guys like Ho-Sang can't get in the lineup as it is.

Should be on the Marlies for the rest of this year anyways. Put him at LW and next year, there are a lot more opportunities for him.

For Ahl to get him back up to speed then transition to nhl role when ready. Seeing it as another Reclamation project.

Hopefully that will entice teams to give us something for him at the TDL.

My only question is

Is this a sign of Hollowell sorting himself out and learning how to play at the AHL level or just a hot streak that's going to disappear?

i have no idea why SDA is still playing center or why they are still trying to develop him there. he is beyond horrible at almost every faced of the game that a center needs to excel at .
put him on the wing already.

Even if he can figure out how to play at the AHL level, he does not have any kind of value to us at the NHL level, and we have better versions of him like Duszak already there (plus guys like Niemela coming up).

There is really no way to slice it where it makes sense to keep him.

If we are not close to the 50 contract limit you sign him. You can never have or develop too many dmen. You develop him and trade him if you can, you want as many of your players to hit as possible so that you have assets you can use or move. So there is absolutely value for the Leafs if he can become an NHLer. Niemela/Duzak are not a lock by any means.

I would rather develop someone with NHL upside, which Hollowell simply does not have. 5'9" offensive defensemen who can't bring offense consistently in the AHL do not have roles in the NHL. It doesn't matter how many other prospects we have.

If it is me, I would rather have Duszak, a guy like Biega, and Villeneuve. I am confident that Hollowell will not have a game that makes it to the NHL, and he does not possess enough AHL value to be worth developing. Duszak can bring everything Hollowell does and more, even if he does not have a ton of NHL upside either. A guy like Biega is a good veteran presence and NHL depth. Villeneuve has legit NHL upside.

That does not even include dipping into the NCAA/Europe market...

Zach Metsa out of Quinnipiac who is a month younger and is also a smaller RHD but has had 44 points in his last 47 NCAA games may be worth more of a shot. He may be just be another Hollowell, but I doubt he will be worse than Hollowell and could be better.

Spencer Meier out of St. Cloud State has looked pretty good from the times I was watching Miettinen, even if he does not put up a ton of points. Big RHD who will play physical and has been a captain for two years now.

We can also sign Rindell, whose rights expire after this year anyways. At least he is younger.

Would like to see more out of Krys and Menell but I doubt we bring either of them back either.

Good thing you’re not running the leafs! Listen, at the end of the day. There is no reason why the leafs shouldn’t develop hollowell. There is zero downside, if you develop him and he hits that’s all that matters. & who’s to say he doesn’t have NHL upside? He’s looked pretty damn good in his latest stint with the Marlies. That’s the thing with defenseman they need time and opportunity.

Could have sworn Abramov has been in the AHL for at least 2 years  great to see him pick up steam as his rookie season goes on

How about playing time and opportunity? Or a contract spot that could go to a better prospect, or are more helpful for our NHL team, or can help our better prospects with legitimate NHL upside?

We have so much talent coming through our system, and are an attractive destination to talented free agent prospects, that we do not have the time to develop a guy who has been mostly stagnant for the last 3 years. Meeting expectations for 5 games as a player type which is already a major long shot as an NHLer is nowhere near enough to change anything.

Sounds like a lot of good reasons to me.

If we can turn him into future assets, why not. A future draft pick, or…..

Again, thank God you are not the GM of the leafs

exactly, did we not spend an asset ourselves to get Mennel? RHD are a premium asset. You can never have too many of them simply for the fact that there’s not many of them available. You need to develop as many as you can and hopefully recoup assets on. The leafs will have more than enough contracts to keep Hollowell who is an RFA. So this weird crusade to let go of a prospect who seems to be taking a foot in the right direction is pretty weird.

He has a point

It's fine to want to develop everybody but we only have one ECHL and one AHL team to develop these guys on

Guys need playing time and having 15 guys fighting for it limits how much we can realistically do

The Marlies have to develop players but they also have to provide veteran depth players for the Leafs to

I'm not sure it's time to cut bait on Hollowell but I can understand it if we do with what's coming
