He is a wet dream as far as prospects go IMO

Size, Skill, Shot, Soft hands, and plays with an edge. Tell me what is not to like? He is built for the NHL already, and he is only 19.

Knies just screams like what of those picks that you look back on 5 years from now and wonder how the hell 56 players were selected ahead of him. Kind of like Jamie Benn, Alex Debrincat and Sebastian Aho.

I really hope you are right, having someone really 'hit' who has size and snarl would be amazing. Just hope he isnt another guy who looks great against guys who are a bit easier to muscle.

Saying that, his hands and dangles look legit + right now.

Keep in mind, he's playing against men in the NCAA, not some junior aged kids. Sure, the NHL might be harder to muscle against, but this isn't an oversized kid, bullying teens.

Honestly I don't think that will be the case. He is listed at 6'3 210 as a 19 year old. Yes that puts him into a very select category for NCAA/Junior aged players, but that would also still put him above the average height and weight of our current forward group. Only 1 player in our current forward group is taller (Engvall), and only 4 Forwards are listed as heavier ( Engvall, Ritchie, Spezza, and JT). This kid is a man already.

I think the one area that Knies could work on to get him to that elite level of prospect is his explosiveness in his stride. He has a harder time getting up to game speed when he is skating directly in a straight line. I don't know if that's just his first 2 strides that are limiting him, but it's definitely an area I think we can see him improve on. He has the ability to skate, and beat guys wide but it usually is on the heals of a bigger wind up. Having that explosive fist 3 strides could be a game changer for him TBH. It would help him on both sides of the puck, and really would put him into can't miss territory IMO.

Unbelievable nose for the net and has the mitts to support it. Between him and Robertson, I really think we've hit gold in the 2nd round the last 3 drafts. I guess you could throw Hirvonen in there as well, but he is less of a sure thing IMO.

You have to love what Matty Knies is doing. We may not have the best LW depth at the NHL level, but with AMirov, Robertson, and Knies all in the pipeline we are going to be absolutely stacked on the left side soon enough.

2023-24 season:

Amirov - Matthews - Marner
Knies - Tavares - Nylander
Roberston - Kampf - Kase
Steeves - Spezza - Ho-Sang

Spezza will play until he is pushed out of the game, which at this point looks like 2035

Yup, and yet there are people here who want to trade him for a 2022 draft pick lol

Amirov isn’t playing for Ufa today, hope he’s not injured. Ovchinnikov is also not playing for Sibir.

Recently the GM of Amirov's team said they had a few positive Covid results. They won't release names for privacy reasons, but it's not difficult to deduce who it is. Regular starters Manninen, Amirov, Koledov, Naumenkov and Sannikov are all not playing today.

Great sign, Abramov's offensive confidence is now coming to the AHL.

I didn't buy AHL TV this year because It was a bit pricy for 2nd league content IMO. SO unfortunately I've not had the benefit of watching many Marlies games this season. I think the early injury of Robby made the decision to not get the subscription a little easier. I may end up getting the half season at some point, I do believe they have a reduced rate at the midway point.

With that said, I do follow the Marlies as best I can, and I've noticed Abramov is playing Centre with he Marlies based on the daily lineup cards on the Marlies Instagram. I know he was drafted as a Centre, but often times young players shift to the wing when they hit pro. I wonder if his lack in early production was due to the coaching staff harping on him to play a more defensive brand of hockey if he was going to continue to be a Centre at the pro level?

I mean it really wouldn't Mikhail long to realize he'd be at the very minimum 3-4 years removed from even having a chance to play a top 6 Centre role for the Leafs with JT and Matts firmly implanted as the top 2C's. Maybe he was smart enough to try and adapt his game to a more 2 way, even defensive first style to make that transition to the NHL quicker and more sustainable? I've read a lot of positive things about his play despite his lack of production. Curious to hear what the folks who have watched him all year think of him

After early struggles, Abramov's been one of the more consistent players. He was being used in a 4th line shutdown PK role early, but since has been all around the lineup. I know Moore was pretty complementry on his play. His role should be more defined instead of putting him everywhere but still he's handled it well. The line is dominating today.

If you watch his junior games he does that a ton, he loves carrying the puck down the wall into the zone then distributing the puck to a teammate

Reminds me of Nylander, he's not Nylander obviously but that reminds me of him

Big win for the Marlies. The best of the season.

Bit of pond hockey with 10 goals.
Love seeing Abramov picking it up.
Steeves with a goal, Kral with another apple.
And I don’t have the numbers, but sure seems like Joey A has been on fire since his cup of coffee. Mighta lit the fire in his belly.

More evidence about how slight the margin of error is for developing goalies.
.917, sounds like a keeper.
.888, not so much.
The latter is Kallgren today.
The former is if he makes one more save today on the 36 shots he faced.

Anderson and Abramov really breaking out the last month. Good sign for both, but especially for Anderson. He's getting too old to not be producing at a strong rate in the AHL if he has real NHL aspirations.

If the price was that cheap for Alex nylander why couldn’t we have traded for him :(
Would actually be interesting if we were to bring him in and put him with Willie if it would put a little hitch in his giddy up. Cheap project. Low risk. Send Ritchie the other way.
