going from watching WJC skill and skating to this Marlies game.

Only watched about 10 minutes of 3rd. but Kral and Clifford only players during that period who looked awake.

Kral on a bit of a heater with 3pts in his last 2GP.

I’ve thought he’s been playing consistently well all year but the points weren’t there. 7 in 21 now.

Watching the Marlies this past year+ has been some of the least enjoyable hockey to watch though. So ugly.

I was trying to be kind.
I didn't watch the much of the game and thought maybe it wasn't as bad as the last 10 minutes.
It was painful.

Any news on Nick Robertson from the beat reporters? Looks like we’re up on 11 weeks from the initial injury back in mid October.

I thought Biggs was solid defensively, finished checks and could fight okay...never understood what happened there. I know he was never gonna live up to draft status but the bottom seemed to really fall out.

I went to one Marlies game where Biggs scored a goal on a partial breakaway and he looked every bit a pro with great big man momentum skating, hands a shot. We all know the story and he turned into nothing but from a casual watch you can see why the scouting community would have fallen in love with his game.

Actually, here it is:

I think the off ice issue has to have some legs because otherwise...why?

On the other hand...if he had been called up, finished some checks and wasn't a liability defensively...would he have simply stayed up? Sometimes I wonder what the bar is for a 4th line guy, maybe an AHL guy just needs a chance?

What are the rumored off ice issues?

he wasn’t very good, couldn’t score even in the AHL. Just didn’t do well period in the AHL

Serious story. I went to college in Kalamazoo, Michigan when this guy was playing in the ECHL there. One super bowl Sunday we were both going after the same girl at the bar and I won out. Guy just lacked compete.

Repeating theme... guy couldn't score.

Biggs is 28 years old and hasn't even been close to ppg in the ECHL the last 3 years. What a terrible 1st round pick

He hasn't played in the ECHL since 2019 either.

The irony is that Biggs was touted as a very 'safe' player by the pundits in that he had a high floor of being an NHLer at the very least in a fourth line role. The question was if he could produce like a top 6 player. Not only was his production non-existent, the rest of his game clearly was so bad he hasn't even come close to a sniff at the NHL level.

He's a clear example of a failed old-school type of draft pick in a changing era of drafting/scouting/player development. Selected based on his physical attributes rather than how he actually plays the game.

Jeez, I didn't even look at the years. So he was basically done in hockey at the age of 26.

IIRC this was the LA Kings era, where if you were big and heavy you automatically got a pass as being a safe pick. Every team wanted to go big after seeing LA suffocate teams in the playoffs, people thought that was the new NHL way to success including Brian Burke.. Biggs fit that mold, a ton of Power forwards picked up were busts because of that.

No, he wasn't good in the AHL and he didn't even produce in the AHL. But I was always remember being pretty shocked that he looked like a convincing pro on one live play and always wondered why he couldn't ever apply those tools beyond an ECHL career. I guess what I'm saying is you'd think he was a 'fridge' pick but he really wasn't...
