Unless u think tavaras will want kadri money
I'd take Naz back

Term is a larger consideration.

Additionally, it sounds like Tavares deal is going to include deferred salary.

Also, what assets are going out the door for a player who isn't really going to move the needle anymore than the player that isn't costing anything.

Tacos

Marlies playing Bakersfield.

AA with his worst start in NA, 5 ga on 15 shots and pulled early in the second. Couple lasers in there, but still. Matt Murray relieved him.

And overall, the Marlies are terrible on the first period.

The kids pulled off a huge comeback, winning 6-5 in overtime after being down 5-1 early in the second.
Matt Murray perfect in relief.
WillyNeuve with 4(!!!) assists.
Alex Nylander was the hero and first star with the hat trick and game winner and a 5pt game.
Alex Steeves wirh his 6th straight multi point game, 1g/2a.
Kokkonen with an apple.
Exciting game after a brutal start.
Gotta clean up those first period blues.

I am liking his chances of competing for bottom 6 next year.

He is playing 200 feet hockey which is going to get Berube's attention.

What's his biggest issue? Just speed? Or is it IQ?

At the NHL level he just looks behind all the time.

Yeah, I mean he’s pretty regularly the best player on the ice, he’s earning a shot somewhere.
Can play both wings, I’d rather have him on the fourth line than 75.

Meanwhile……

Marlies going right back to AA.
Gut check game for him.
Hopefully the team shows up 20 mins earlier than usual.

Marlies lost a close one 3-2, some tough love reffing in the third with the zebras firing Marlies off to the penalty box faster than a tommy gun.
AA was better, tough losing in the third on a 5-on-3 power play goal. Stopped 25 of 28.
Abruzzese and Masteosimone with the goals.
Quillan, Niemela, and WillyNeuve with the apples.
Tverberg didn’t suit up this weekend. Not sure if there’s an injury or if it’s performance or just rotating.
Rough night for yesterdays hero’s Alwx Nylander and Grebs, both -2.

With that one game he now has exactly the same (4 goals, 7 assists) non powerplay production as Oliver Bonk.

Heres an interesting question.

Would everyone be okay with a season total of just 30pts but 10 goals?

So overall points not impressive but scored alot of goals,

I think thirty points is impressive for a defenseman.

Only thirty players got that last year in the OHL. They only play 68 games in juniour too. So a half a point a game with a goal every three would make Danford well above average for defensemen.

I'd be impressed.

I agree.
Both those numbers I quoted aren't locks but definitely achievable.
It would also be interesting to hear his usage, who he's been playing with etc.
We also need to factor in he missed all preseason with a concussion, so who know's if he's actually 100% or not.

The junior assists for big minute guys that aren’t primarily offensive D isn’t really a measure of offense but a proxy for how they’re playing D. Are they playing a lot of D because they’re hemmed in or are they winning battles and getting the puck going the other way quickly.

Polak paced almost 10 goals in the NHL once, there was never any doubt he could caveman swing clappers on net, but unless he had someone to babysit him on the breakout the other team could dump the puck and get back to back to back icings on them even though on paper he’s racking up hits and blocks like a good stay at home D should.

I’m not worried about Danford, he has the same feel that Minten had in juniors where he’s clearly got a good head for the game and will be more effective with pros that are where they’re supposed to be more often than 16 year olds. It’s just strange that he didn’t continue his offensive breakout from the end of last season now that he’s captain and presumably not fighting for ice time like the start of last season. Maybe it’s the concussion and a change in usage.

The point about usage is a good one.
Connor Punnett was on their team last season and was a LHD who had offensive ability (7 goals, 17 assists in 32 games).
Was Danford playing alot of time on a pairing with him in a LHD/RHD setup whereas now Luca Marrelli has really taken a huge step but he's a RHD, so you really wouldn't want Danford playing his offside with him? Meaning less offensive spots compared to last season? Is he seeing less icetime with his teams top offensive players (Senneckke, Barlow, Ritchie etc)?.

Who's his defensive partner this season? Are they less capable of moving the puck especially as the main facilitator on the pairing? Are they even being forced into a RHD/RHD pairing which isn't optimal? Is he getting less offensive zone starts compared to last year?

There's just so much actual context needed to know exactly why a certain defencemen might not be putting up more assists.

Marelli was a mess defensively when I watched that team play last year. Probably why he dropped in the draft. I haven't watched much of that team this year yet but I'm going to assume they got Danford playing the tougher minutes and PP2 or something like that.
