Abbotsford Canucks Thread | Prospects Starting to Heat Up

Silovs and Tolopilo have both fallen under .900 again, after a bad outing each. I'm fed up with them.

The Canucks have a guy in Kalamazoo. Call up Ty Young.

In all fairness to Tolopilo and Silovs, this Abbotsford Canuck blueline is really starting to 'wobble' without Brannstrom, Friedman and now Elias Pettersson II.

In the highlight package last night from Colorado, the Canucks were surrendering a bushel-full of 10-bell chances in every period. They really need to be getting more from AHL-vets like Woo and Wolanin.

Young is having a great year down there based on his stats. 926 sv%, winning record on a last place team. Then again, the echl really sucks so who knows. It'd be nice to see him get a game or 2 for excelling at that level.

Abbotsford plays five times over the Four Nations break. I hope that means five games for Mancini, so we can get a chance to see what the Canucks have there, and it'd be great if Young got another shot at the AHL too.

(The games are on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday.)

I'm surprised by Young. Didn't know what management was thinking signing him so early but I guess there might be something there.

Got better as he went along in his call-ups to Abbotsford. Went from looking shaky initially to not looking bad. His numbers in the ECHL are good, similar to Silovs in his D+3 and Young is six months younger as well. Doing okay for a 5th-round goalie who's only five months beyond his 20th birthday. I left him at #12 again in my prospect rankings but I was quite tempted to jump him ahead of some of the age 23/24 guys that I've placed immediately above him.

it makes sense to hedge your bets and control contract slots if you can, but i think they do it with guys they think might get distracted or drift away from hockey without the carrot and the guidance.

I don't think that's much of an issue though. There are always European and college UFA options. Plus for the purpose of goaltending depth you can always sign guys like Martin and Patera. There are only so many starts to go around. If things don't work out we can be stuck with an ECHL goalie for 3 years.

maybe they were concerned with this particular kid. it's not a meat market.

Mancini is in. So is Pettersson.

The full D:

Pettersson / Mancini (starting pair)
Wolanin / Woo
Kudryavtsev / McWard

(not positive about the exact pairings)

Silovs has the net.

Klimovich is not playing. Aman and Karlsson are both in.

Klimovich has been cold for awhile, hopefully being benched gets him fired up and producing again.

First impression of Mancini is that he looks huge on the ice. Physical and skates fast. Very much a 'tools' guy, haven't seen enough yet to comment on the toolbox
Mostly deferred to D-Petey in the offensive zone so not much to report on there.

Sasson-Aman-Karlsson completely dominating
Bains looks much faster and much more engaged than last time I saw him
D-Petey continues to look like a #1D at this level

PDG looks like a plug even in the AHL

Mancini a pretty poor job in his coverage and then didn't tie up his man in front letting the guy tap it in to an open net. Not a great look on that shift

Looked like he almost got a lucky 2nd assist passing the puck out of his zone as Karlsson scores on a wrap around, but apparently Aman touched it afterwards so no points for Mancini.

Stream died so I'm out for the night

2-2 late in the second. Raty just tied it up, from Bains and Lekkerimaki.

Mancini and Pettersson were on for both San Diego goals.

Abby's at home and has a strong line-up. San Diego is last in the division. This should be an easy one, but ...
