Anything over 2.5 mil × 2 yrs I say bye.

It is interesting, the people are slowly talking themselves into basically bringing back the roster from that fell short last year.

or from person to person, they will want 1-2 guys gone only.

Watching MJ last night against London knight's there top line could all be in the NHL next season + there top dman.
When Saskatoon (Minten) played against MJ and held there top guys at bay .
That says alot about the player we have.

They need Major changes but marner and JT hold all the cards.
So there will be changes on D
I would trade
Kampf
Jamcrock
Ljiligren

To start

Montour big shot we desperately need on PP1
Zadorov another big shot on the point PP2
He has proven he can play on the 2nd pair

Both have a mean streek and love to hit

I wouldn't really play Zadorov on PP2, he's not that kind of guy. He does elevate in the playoffs but there was a clear drop off in their defenseman.

Hughes-Hronek were a legit top pair

Soucy is a 2nd pair guy and Z is borderline 2nd pair, Myers and Cole are definitely 3rd pairing guys at this point.

Z is chasing 6x6 and even 5x5 is inadvisable for him.

So since the big contract won't waive we trade the bargain deals for expensive contracts? Hard pass

Today Im leaning towards keeping CJ and making a three-headed monster rotating into two roster posts while Cowan and Greb transition to the league.
One of Cowan/Greb/Jarnkrok on the second line, one on the third line, one in h the presbox/4th line.
So the kids don’t have a full 80 game plate and have a vet to cover if or when either struggle. Assuming both kids show enough in camp.

That’s very well said, actually.
Gotta keep a flow of contracts on the roster…can’t bottleneck the whole cap with costly vets who are already at their plateaus.
Need guys on mins, ELC’s, rfa/bridges.
Rinse lather repeat.

I mean if Treliving spends the $20M better than he did last offseason than that would go a long way.

I liked Bert and Domi for the most part but commiting $20M to Reaves/Kampf/Samy/ Klingberg/Domi/Bertuzzi was poor in hindsight.

Get some defensemen this offseason, shed Jarnkrok and Kampf, and then see what the kids can do up front until the deadline. Upgrade the forward group if you need too at that point.

Honestly, 2 key changes could make a huge difference.

Example: MacKinnon and Makar

You don't think that would have an impact?

Okay, of course it would.

But we know there are changes because some players are definitely done with the Leafs.

Leafs only have 4 defenders coming back who were starters.
So there are at least 3 new players required for defense.

There are only 10 forwards under contract who were starters.
So there are at least 4 forwards to sign. Maybe they re-sign Dewar, Gregor, Robertson, only 1 was mostly a starter (Robertson).

Without jettison players they still have to make changes.

I wonder who is a candidate to make the jump this year?

Could Grebyonkin surprise out of camp? Cowan certainly has a chance? I know Minten made it last year but I really feel like to get the most out of him, having him at least half a season to a full year in the AHL would be best for him to give him better offensive opportunities to grow that part of his game.

What if Niemela and Hildeby show up at camp and vastly outperform everyone? It's not that far fetched, they're polished.

I really think they have to introduce some new blood, and it would be nice if they have a couple futures make the team.

Grebyonkin has been playing against men.
Niemela has been playing against men.

Minten and Cowan are options, but somehow I think Cowan is going back to junior, and yes Minten AHL.

Debrusk would be nice.

i didn't realize this was the next year lineup thread, i came here to read about prospects

I've tried to transition it into who factors into next year's roster....I think we have a few candidates that could come in.

I am hoping Cade Webber is a nice surprise, turns 24 in January. Not a young kid.

Maybe after 1/2 season with the Marlies he will be a 2nd half option for the Leafs.

Absolutely no impression about Webber whatsoever.

Turned 23 in January, large size, blocks shots.

For his size, Webber also has good mobility. While acceleration can be a struggle at times, he has a nice fluid stride and pivots well. He uses his edge work to spin off and evade checks, which is a great sign as he transitions to the professional level where time and space will be less than what he already deals with.

Benoit was 24 when we signed him as an unqualified UFA last offseason. On one hand he should be pretty polished at this point, on the other, a big dman like that might still need some time to figure things out.

I think more than anything, it's going to take time to adapt to the pro game, from the College game. Plus learn all new systems. If he's good, he'll get his chance.

Playing against larger, more mature players might be a transition.

We won't get Montour. Everyone will line up. With big stateside offers. Zadorov, Pesche, Tanev more likely.
