Would love to see London get one, doubt it though. Too small of a city technically.

London is too difficult to get through and far out.

If KW could have some sort of transit/hub.
You could draw London. Kw Hamilton/halton

That’s 1.5 million people easy

Maple Leafs Sign Forward Jacob Quillan | Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed forward Jacob Quillan to a two-year entry-level contract with an Average Annual Value of $875,000 beginning in 2024-25.

Quillan, 22, skated in 39 games for Quinnipiac University this season, registering 46 points (17 goals, 29 assists) and was the recipient of the ECAC Gladiator Best Defensive Forward Award. In 116 NCAA games, the 6’0, 201-pound centre recorded 93 points (38 goals, 55 assists). Last season, the Dartmouth, NS native scored the overtime winning goal to secure the 2023 NCAA Championship for Quinnipiac and was awarded the Frozen Four Most Outstanding Player Award.

??? I meant Kitchener? I must have completely misunderstood what we were talking about.

Kitchener would be easier for commuting from Toronto.

Is demand higher in KW?

I'm not terribly worried about the prospect pool. If we look at the next 5 years (the length of Matthews' next contract), we can see the cheap "young" talent that Toronto will use to fill out the roster. The rest will be done in free agency in an attempt to win a Cup.

Bobby McMann (2x 1.35 million)
Simon Benoit (3x 1.35 million)
Nic Robertson (2x 1.2 million?)
Easton Cowan (2x 936k)
Matthew Knies (1x 925k)
Topi Niemela (1x 887k)
Fraser Minten (2x 846k)
Pontus Holmberg (1x 800k)
Marshall Rifai (1x 775k)
Joseph Woll (1x 767k)
Alex Steeves (unsigned)
Nikita Grebyonkin (unsigned)

Obviously I've left some names out, but the reality is that only so many of those guys are going to be able to play on a team that projects into the top 10-12 teams in the league for the next 5 years. With McMann and Benoit extended and Knies, Robertson, Holmberg and Woll seeing regular minutes, there are going to be very few spots available, especially as Tre mixes in veteran talent on cheap deals.

You’re exactly right - not all doom and gloom. Add in Lili, Dewar, Tverberg, Hildeby, Webber.
It’s not that bad at all, and there’s variety of skill sets and play styles in there. Good positional flexibility in the forwards.
A good exercise might be projecting when players should be ready for steady NHL roles.
I’d say that Knies Holmberg NickRob Lili Benoit McMann and Woll have all shown enough this year.
To start next year, Rifai and Steeves are probably ready on the fringe. Cowan might compete but another year in junior would be fine. Not unreasonable to think Tverberg, Hildeby and Niemela are ready by the end of next year. Quillan and Minten will be close or pushing by that time, along with Cowan after the junior year ends.
Grebyonkin could be ready to compete to start ‘25-26. Webber maybe too.
Looks like plenty of good supporting players arriving at a good time.

So you're saying there's still a chance Graf joins his teammate in Toronto?
It could be better than it was before Quillan's signing. I do wonder if Boston thinks he's a bit too dainty or Leaf-like to go for him.

The Rangers are screaming for another RW, though.

Where does Quillan rank in our prospext pool, anyone have some updated lists?

Probably around the 7-10 spot after the obvious names. We'll see how he translates to the AHL.

Cowan
Minten
Niemela
Hildeby
Greb
Tverberg
Quillan
Kokkonen
AA
Villeneuve
Voit
Chadwick
Rifai
Hirvonen
Webber

Probably around the same spot you would have Tverberg.

Somewhat similar profiles (5'11", vs 6'0", good motor, responsible, only a couple days apart in age, lacking a bit on the high end skill).

Quillan gets some + points for being a centre. He had better production his last two years in college but on the flip side Tverberg stepped in as a true freshman, produced right away and then made a smooth transition to the AHL. Essentially Tverberg is one year ahead of him developmentally while being the same age, since Quillan spent a year in the BCHL instead of going straight to College hockey.

That sucks for everyone involved. Hopefully MLSE will find a way to run a team there in the future, maybe taking ownership of the franchise, or building a new one.

Not sure there's much appetite to run an ECHL team... but maybe? Doesn't seem like there's much money to be made in that venture.

I hope the Marlies sign Zach O’Brien to an AHL deal. He's been a heck of a Growler. He's capable to play in the AHL.
