How’s Woll doing? 2-1 score, can’t be terrible..
i only saw half the game, but he made a couple good stops in the first period and a half and the only goal that went in was a cross-crease chance that he originally stopped but bounced around and then went in off his leg in the scramble

For those who follow/watch Fraser Minten closely .. what does he project to be at the NHL level?

It seems the point production just isn't there ... Can we expect more of a high-IQ shutdown 3C?
Who's a good comparable?

Bit over hyped - if you're expecting a Danault type smart shutdown C or even a Cirelli- you'll be disappointed. He's going to be a 3C/4C - time will tell how good, but right now is just the type of guy coaches like - but fans are meh over

He gives off Scott Laughton vibes.

I'd be happy with a Bolland outcome for him.

One way to look at it. This is what we are looking for every deadline. Good bottom 6 depth. We aren't the Sharks, we don't need him to be an elite talent, it's already there.

Freddie the Goat the Sequel?

It’s actually kind of wild that we are the highest scoring team in the entire league and that’s with our highest paid non-core 4 forward showing effectively no finish all year

I only drop in here occassionally, I never see any of the games, so it's great to see vids of how the kids are doing. Damn, the puck wasn't long on his stick. I like that.

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but to my eyes we've got a number of elite shooters. Matthews of course, but Willy, Mitch ain't bad - when he shoots - JT's shooting % sucks this year, but I think the slump is over, Knies has a shot, Robertson - damn that kid has a heavy shot - but a little quicker would be nice kid, and if Cowan has hands like that...woohoo! I can easily see 3 lines with someone popping 20...or more. That's exciting.

Question: I mentioned Robertson, and what I see as him having a heavy shot. Cowan, with just that viewing, has the puck moving 'fast' and not 'heavy'? Goes back to conversations I had a number of years. To me, Lanny M had a quick/fast/sneaky shot, not that he couldn't rip it, he sure as heck could, but then I think of Rick Vaive, and all I can think of is 'heavy'. In other words, if I were a goalie, I'd rather take Lanny's shot in the chest before I have to take on Vaives, even if they were moving at the same speed. Or am I an idjit? Thoughts?

I would say he's more of a playmaker who can score a variety of ways and his shot is just average.

He has good speed, plays a good north-south game, is a very smart player and has very underrated offensive abilities.

I heard someone previously bring up Konecny as a comparable and that makes sense playing style wise.

Could a minten comparison be like Lars Eller?
I see Minten's ceiling as being Boone Jenner. Never the most talented skater on the ice, but because of intelligence and maturity (damn kid is impressive in that regard), and skill sets from what I've read and seen, he's a player who could eventually plug in as your #1C and not embarrass you because of his professionalism. He'd lose 60/40 against the best because of skills, but he'd give you 100%, and that means something. I'd peg his realistic ceiling, optimally, as that high end 3C, who you can trust in all situations, and is smart and good enough to adapt to the wingers he's given. In other words, the opposition knows this guy deserves our attention.

Spending a pick to get rid of Kampf to open up some cap space might not be the worst idea ever but the likely outcome would be signing a replacement who costs similar money only for us to realize that doesn't work out either and now we want to pay picks to get rid of them too. A lot of medium level UFA signings don't work out, they're older and tend to get too much as they start producing diminishing returns.

Didn't people correctly complain about Dubas for this? Signing Mrazek, trading down to get rid of him only to bring in Murray who we thankfully had a injury means to go away instead of having to repeat history? Like sure, ideally you move out money to make room for the correct move but the correct move isn't always obvious. I'm sure Treliving thought he was making the correct move when he resigned Kampf.

I would say dumping Kampf along with any pick as sweetener is an extremely dumb idea rooted in Leaf centric thinking. He’s simply an average role playing NHLer doing a job. On the Leafs, cap space is a little more precious and maybe he’s not the most optimal way to spend it. On 20 other teams he’s just a normal guy making average money for average things and by no means would he have negative value. On a bottom feeder, a contender would be looking to add him for a marginal pick.

I see Minten becoming a very good 3C that can fill in to the top 6 when someone gets injured. We really could have used a player like that when Tavares went down in the Habs series.
