Cowan, Minten and Grebyonkin are all great candidates, but I've latched on to Tverberg as my unrealistic expectations prospect of choice.
I have Tverberg's floor as an NHL 4th liner. I think there is at the very least an NHL player there.
He could be a decent 3rd liner, and I am starting to see him more as a potential 3rd liner with his recent play.
Basically does all the intangible work you want of a bottom 6 player.

When players make these rapid jumps in development, it is a very good sign to me.
It means they are seeing the ice better, adapting to the speed of play, and understanding where they need to be.

There is nothing wrong with slow progression for many players, but it does sort of cap their ceiling when they progress that way.

The scouts make the list that the picks go off us but GMs generally determine what attributes to weigh more heavily. Burke wanted toughness and size. Dubas didn’t care much about that, instead he focussed on hockey sense and skill. I doubt Treliving played much of a role in the Cowan pick. The lists would have already been made based on the attributes Dubas prioritized. We’ll see if Treliving picks tends to skew more toward other attributes or not.

Yeah I was looking at Wright's stats earlier. Disappointing numbers from a kid that was supposed to go 1st overall in his draft
I saw a lot of Wright as a youth. He would play up 2 years as an AP with my son's AAA Burlington Team. He was very good.

I think he will be a long time effective and solid 2/3 centre. Not what you dream of with the 1st overall selection.

Anyone have any updates on how Koster is developing?

@Menzinger Aren't you in Minnesota?

He's currently pacing a bit below offensively than he was last season, but he's still playing well defensively. He's a smart, but non flashy player.

I think he's worth brining into the Leafs system after the season, either as an elc or even ahl deal. I see him as a longer term project sort of like Holl was

You can base some form of trend with Trelivings past GM and influence in his drafts through his years in Arizona and Calgary.

We always make a big fuss about GMs picking this or that player at NHL drafts but people really tend to forget it's a collaborate effort between all the scouts and management. A good management team will want value regardless of what kind of player or position they are, some deviate from that based on whatever notion they have at the time.

Feels like there is 2 maybe 3 waves to come.

Knies, Holmberg and Robertson are now NHLers.

Cowan and Minten seem close, they could be on the roster to open next year.

Grebyonkin, Niemela, Hildeby and Tverberg also seem like they'll be factors within 1-2 years.

They won't all arrive at once and maybe 1 guy is even traded, or they'll bust but it does feel like there are some young NHL bodies that will come

Aky we need to see in North America and Chadwick will be interesting to see over the next 3-4 years.

You can probably add Kokkonen to the list of 1-2 years

This is it exactly. There are seven forwards on that list that could crack the line-up over the next few years. They won't all make it, but we only need two or three on top of Knies, Holmberg and Robertson.

This is why we focus our cap space and trade capital on the D. We need to replace Bertuzzi, Domi, Jarnkrok, Kampf with guys on ELCs. We take that $12M + cap increases and invest in d-men around Rielly, Liljegren, Benoit, and Niemela.

Extremely valid point - we have Woll and you'd think between Aky and Hildeby - one should make it

Aside from Niemela and even Chadwick - we're kind of thin at D

Lots of forwards coming though, we need more coming on defense.

I don't think Minten is going to be ready for a top 6 center job next season, the team looks way better with Domi at 2C and Tavares at 3C

I think we need to hang onto Domi or get somebody else who can do that job

Yeah, Domi could be a resign especially with no big increase. The math all still works, it just gives us $3M less on the D. We will still have lots to spend on two top 4s

Wennberg is still that guy for me,
a Cowan/Domi Wennberg Nylander Line has alot of potential, I'm a Wennberg fan, with a guy like Nylander on his flank he can attain 60-70 points imho and with great defence

Button put St.Louis on waivers, left Calgary and signed with Tampa

Button also traded away promising young goalie JS Giguere to the Ducks for a 2nd round pick in order to protect Fred Brathwaite in the 2000 expansion draft

Button later traded Marc Savard to the Atlanta Thrashers for Ruslan Zainullin. He never played a game in the NHL.

I think we all know about St.Louis, Giguere and Savard

Button is someone that cannot take seriously as a GM or as an authority on anything hockey related.
Button is the biggest blowhard on TSN and the major weak link in an otherwise pretty good cast they have for hockey coverage.

Coco being another waste of air time, but thankfully he is mostly relegated to Habs coverage so you don’t have to see him.
