I think everything is right and I'm fine with the decision.

At the beginning of the season, back when we had the poll about Scheifele up, the large majority voted "Give him 5 games and if he plays out guys and earns a spot on the daily roster keep him up. Otherwise send him down."

'Otherwise' is exactly what happend and that's not because he looked lost and obviously not ready for the big club or a because of a bad management decision.

I'll just get back and follow the Colts again  Let's hope he makes a deep playoff run with em and maybe a chance to the Memorial Cup. :handclap:

I thought we could, my mistake.

You can't recall a player from junior after you've sent him down. If Barrie is out of the playoffs and St. John's is in, he can sign an ATO and play with them in the playoffs (like he did last season).

Thank god we saved all that money by not burning a year of his ELC!!! With this and the $346 we saved by not re-signing Tanner Glass, we'll have bundles to give away to Moose alumni like Jason Jaffray, Fedor Federov and Sean Pronger.

I hope they had him ironing Clitsome's suits and/or washing cars at Birchwood Honda while he was here. We didn't have him up for development, thats for sure.
Not sure I agree with you. Deferring an ELC contract, if timed properly, can maximize value and save a significant amount of money over the course of a high-end prospect's career. In a capped system, that money could be used to fill other needs, e.g., getting a UFA LHD.
And Scheif may actually have gotten more development help than is obvious. He has certainly been around long enough to learn our system and precisely what he needs to improve on to make it next year.

I think he can be recalled on an emergency basis, but the new CBA may have changed that.

Maybe I'm naive, but I don't think his life has been 'eating popcorn in the press box' the last 2 weeks.

I personally see some benefit to him being here in Winnipeg, being around the trainers and coaches, practicing in the big leagues, getting another taste of what to expect for when he makes it.

I think if it wasn't such a shortened and urgent season, he probably would have been played more consistently, but it is what it is.

I wish he would have just been given the first 4-5 games personally. But I don't know if I'd consider the way things turned out to be a waste.

I agree. But it is just so much easier to be lazy and troll out the same old platitudes without doing any thinking or forming an individual opinion. :)

Does this mean we are:

a) close to having Miettenen back? (Thought he was still a ways away from returning)
b) calling someone up from the rock?
c) about to sign someone/waiver acquisition?

or possibly none of the above. I don't understand why they kept him to watch the game last night (and not even practice for that matter) just to send him down today? Perhaps there will be an explanation... perhaps Chevy has something cooking up as I post this?

Maybe Bogosian is close to coming back and they'd rather use the extra spot to keep another d-man up? The timing is a bit odd.

I believe the Colts schedule begins to pick up again this weekend, they had a big lull in their sked (2 games in 12 days I think it was). So they kept him around practicing with the big club seeing directly what they want out of the players, and now he can go back and work on his stuff for the rest of the season.

Asset management, some may do it differently, Chevy does it like this.

Good about time, now a full year in St John's learning the the pro game next year and then we think of bringing him up for 2014/2015.

If you keep making so much good sense with your comments most people around here will not like you

Scheifele needs to prove he can play against the big boys. From what I've seen from him at all levels, he's prone to putting up good numbers against the weaker foes, and disappears when the going gets tough. It happened in the OHL last year, as well as the WJC in both years he played. He also did nothing in his short stint in the AHL, and both his regular season stints in the NHL. So, I'll be very interested to see if he can play well in the OHL playoffs, and maybe the AHL playoffs as well. Till then, I am not sold on him, and hold the view that it was a terrible pick. I hope I am proven wrong.

We cannot.

Don't mind sending him to Barrie. He'll be here next year I think. Gagnon on waivers too, probably to come up as a 14th forward.

Recall waivers are gone. So if the Jets wanted to call up Gagnon, he would not need to be on waivers.

Gagnon is on waivers since they are sending him down to the be #14 forward in St. Johns (that's how bad he is this season). He has been hurt and therefore not been able to officially be sent to St. John's since the NHL started. All of the Jets players that were waiver eligible were never placed on waivers at the start of the year, instead they had signed new AHL contracts for the lockout (Postma, Machacek, etc).

Have no fear, this guy cannot keep up at the AHL level this season, he will not be in WPG at all. which is great cause he sucks at the NHL level.

Ah, forgot that he was injured. That would explain it.

Either way I could see some merit.

Scheifele has now had another experience with the NHL. That is a good thing for him.

He's going to be disappointed to go down, but that's a good thing. We want to have a guy that wants to be here.

But knowing what we know about his work ethic, he will quickly brush that off and go back to playing huge minutes for Barrie, and hopefully either a Memorial Cup run or a stint in the AHL (c'mon Ice Caps, get into the playoffs!).

Oh god no.
He's on waivers because he was injured before the lockout ended.

Lead TC in goals, PP goals, GWG and shots...
Doing nothing is also a poor and wrong comment. He didn't steal the show but it's not black and white...

It was obvious that he wasnt ready yet.

We aren't in a position that we have to put the young guys in the line up like the years in Atlanta. Going back to Barrie is gonna be upsetting but you kinda what him to go there pissed of a little bit its good motivation. If St. Johns makes the playoffs he might wanna look for an apartment for the next year cause I got a feeling they will make him play a season there.

Where are all the folks who were saying keep Scheifele up to learn as a pro?

Good to hear he was sent down. It would have been horrible for his development to keep him up on roster just to languish on the bench playing < 8 minutes a game.

Another poster on here mentioend recently that Scheifele has yet to dominate his top-end peers like Galcheynuk or Strome. I think that's true and will be good to see Scheifs leading the Colts on a deep playoff run. I think battling in the corners against Harrington and Zadorov in the OHL finals will help his path along the learning curve.

I just really hope Chevy, Noel, anyone high up from the Jets took some time to explain things to Mark. He appears to be a great young man with an almost old-fashioned sense of courtesy and hard work. Hate to see him take it the wrong way if he's sensitive to things like that. And I think his feelings do matter, the guy is a future star for the Jets so handle that asset appropriately please Chevy!

Hopefully Scheifele took some positives away from this stint. I understand that Barrie was in a bit of a light stretch in terms of games played, so there was really no harm in keeping him up and having access to the Jets' facilities.

Hey Tin Man - I am one of those folks. Can't say that I agree or disagree with this move. They obviously felt he wasn't ready. It is what is.

I had hoped that he would stick up here because we WILL have some injuries up front and I don't really see anyone on the farm that is measurably better than him.

Just for all those Scheifele is a bust, Couturier is the man posters, I just looked it up and something I found interesting was in their respective third season of juniors Couturier posted a ppg of 1.65 while Scheifele in his third season has a ppg of 1.63.

Again , he played better than Huberdeau this summer and at the WJC.
Hardly call what he did a disappearing act.
