Again , he played better than Huberdeau this summer and at the WJC.
Hardly call what he did a disappearing act.

He piled up points against the awful teams, then was invisible against Team USA when it counted. Watch the games, not just the stats. Same as with the Jets last year. Great productions against watered down preseason teams, then just a time filler when the regular season rolled around.

None of this disproves what he said.

He played better than Huberdeau. During every game as far as I can remember.

Just cause he played better than Huberdeau doesn't mean he didn't disappear...and I believe he said he wouldn't call it a disappearing act. Just cause everyone played poorly, it's acceptable for Scheifele?

I watched all the games including the summer series more than once, Scheifele was better , played better than Huberdeau .

He also played out of position during the WJC , I suggest you watch the games.

He didn't disappear , that isn't an opinion , and if you say he did , you are simply flat out wrong.

Pressure point , final game of the summer summit series , go rewatch the game to see the disappearing act.

Who cares about Huberdeau? If you want to bring up Huberdeau, let's bring up the regular season NHL stats this season, and who is sticking with the big club.

He didn't really get a chance. It's unfortunate that he didn't make the squad but he was pretty much on the bubble for me. I expect him to make the team full time next year.

I am firmly against this decision. I don't think that sending the guy back down to play with a bunch of kids is really RW beat thing for his development. Even if he plays energy minutes it's still in the NHL and he is practising with the big league. You keep him up and it becomes exponentially easier for him to correct the flaws in his game, his skating and his strength. Sending him down to abuse 16-17yr olds is doing nothing to help him.

Also...why not give him the fifth game? Like what the hell guys? Ou have five games to let the kid show you what he's got, why not let him use all five before you send him back.

Doesn't make any sense. I really think that Scheifele was mishandled in this case and doing this particular move is not in the best interests of the team or of Mark.

Enough with the excuses for the guy. He simply hasn't earned the right to play on the top 2 lines, and isn't near strong enough to play a 3rd or 4th line role. His top end skating speed is ok, but it takes him way too long to get there, and he gets bumped off the puck with ease, and hesitates to stick his nose in a tough spot.
Including the AHL, he has 1 goal and 1 assist in 21 professional games. Nowhere near ready.
I feel bad for the kid, it's not his fault that Chevy picked him 10 spots too high in the draft.

Whereas I agree they should have given him his fifth game, I disagree with the rest.

I think they sent him down because he is becoming a distraction. Of course, not his fault, or any of his doing. The club knew all along that Scheifele wasn't going to be a Jet this year. Why do you think they picked up Jokinen and Ponikarovsky? I still think they should have just left him in Barrie. With no preseason and such a short compressed schedule it wasn't fair to Scheifele, and it wasn't in the best interests of the club, either. I think they just wanted him to know he is still very much a part of the team's future.

Cheveldayoff answered everyone's questions if they wanted to hear the answer. This team won't rush players onto the roster. If that means signing players as bridges, then so be it. People who expect Trouba to be here next year are bound to be disappointed.

To many rookies on a team at once -- no bueno. Look at the Oilers. Kane is starting become a reliable player. Burmistrov needs to take the next step this year. Postma needs to get established. Bring the rookies in slowly, so you don't need to put too much pressure on them. Make sure they are prepared for the responsibility and pace of the game.

If they wait 2 years to get Trouba in the lineup, by then you have Bogosian as a potential Norris winning vet, great top end guys such as Byfuglien and Enstrom, and established sophomore Postma along with Redmond, who will hopefully have a year under his belt. Then you don't have to worry about sheltering a bunch of inexperienced players.

I will also agree that Barrie isn't the greatest place in the world for Scheifele, but that isn't the Jets fault. I still think every team should have an exemption for the underage AHL rule.

at this rate he won't make the big club for another 2-3 years, similar to Kadri. At that point, other players in same draft class will already have 4-5 pro years under their belt. I like the kid and am rooting for him but it looks like Chevy made the wrong choice.

How is Telegin progressing? I havent heard his name in a while.

Jet, I agree with what you just said except the bit about Trouba. He is in a different class. Next Pronger. He will be ready when called upon.

You replied to a guy mentioning a comparison between Huberdeau and Scheifele...

Then proceeded to tell him he was wrong...completely ignoring his whole statement.

Then question why you're talking about it...

At what rate? He's gotten more NHL time than most of his peers...

Yes, I think we can all agree that Mark was given every opportunity to succeed - whether playing out of position while paired with offensive dynamos like Thorburn and Slater, or given 30 seconds of PP time on the second unit, or even thrown in for 16 minutes of garbage time in the final period of that shellacking in Tampa. 4 games, 0 points - why isn't he scoring hat tricks every night? WTF his faceoff win percentage is only 70%?? BUST! Chevy should be sending him down to Junior B to get ready for a career in the ECHL! Noel didn't need to see him in a 5th game to know that he's no Kyle Wellwood... :sarcasm:

So your saying he shouldn't have to earn what he gets?

"Another" 2 to 3 years seems like a stretch at this point morningwood no? My guess would be another 1 year max after this in the AHL and anything more than that and I would be really surprised and concerned.

or at this rate he "may" enter the league like Conacher, Tarasenko, Gallagher, Foligno or Schultz who all took a while but early signs would tell us that the patient development path sometimes pay dividends

Good point. I forgot that all the best young players start on the 4th line out of their position and are given 4 games at 8 minutes/night in a checking role and then its sink or swim. Leave aside the fact that Slater and Thorburn were creating more scoring chances in 3 games with 55 than ever.

Oh, and Scheifele got robbed point blank 4 times in 4 games, despite limited checking minutes. If even one of those go in, he's golden.

But then again, Wellwood does have that 1 assist this year and almost triple deked an empty net in MTL, so I guess he's earned his place.

He is not good enough right now to crack our top 6.....he was drafted to play in our top 6 and not in our bottom 6!!!!...When he is ready to play in our top 6 at C or RW he will make the big team...Is that next year or 3 years from now no one really knows.

Good luck Mark keep working hard on your skating!
