Player Discussion: Mark S Discussion

The Jets need to move Scheifele AND Wheeler as they are absolute cancers in the locker room. It is time for a new regime. Time to overpay Dubois if they must to a long term deal and give him 1st line minutes. This team cannot afford to lose Dubois to free agency.
So your plan is to trade away two franchise players and turn the keys over to a player that is opening telling teammates that he wants to play on another team?

If anything it sounds like PLD is the locker room cancer.

Schefishle wouldnt play any form of D for Maurice or Lowry, I think Bowness will introduce 55 to the end of the bench pretty quickly……

How do you know they’re “absolute cancers” though? I don’t like this narrative because none of us know. You cannot know this with absolution, even if your best friend is the janitor for the room or if you are yourself around the room. Anyone who has been part of any team sport on any competitive level knows there’s so much more complexity to locker room. Sometimes it is as simple as winning or losing. Sometimes it’s the coaching and not the players.

I dunno man, It’s slanderous to just throw things out like that. It creates false narratives

I can’t wait until next season when Scheifele & the Jets have a great bounce back season and we can look at all these negative posts about him and eat crow.
What crow? ScheifMe was absolute hot garbage last year and deserved every criticism directed his way. He has to prove himself game in and game out this year. People thinking he's graduated from the Bowness Rehab Clinic cause of one "good talk" are being delusionally optimistic.

This is why they play the games and don't award 2 points based on talk. If they did the Jets would have won the Stanley Cup every season based on Maurice talking.

The odds of Scheifele having a bounce back season and performing the way we want are the same as Scheifele become a permanent fixture on the end of the bench or becoming fat eating popcorn in the press box. by Christmas. I want to see it on the ice to believe it.

But here's the thing. Say Scheifele does get his head out of his ass and plays like he can. What does that say about Scheifele? It says he gave up on the team and his teammates last year.

You can bet that Scheifele is training like a pro. I don't know, the amount of disdain for a guy who has 4 consecutive PPG seasons, and finished his last 20 games with 11g, 17a, on the plus side of the ledger, on a pace that would be a 45 goal 113 point season, over 50% on the draw, is a little over the top I think.

If there's a guy that I want buying in next year it's Scheifele.

Notice that the convos Bowness had were with Scheifele and Lowry. Everyone's new favourite toy PLD has spent his offseason in Montreal, probably hoping to be traded there.

Now that PLD has signalled he wants to try out free agency my guess is he’ll lose the new favorite toy handle quickly. As long as he shows up fit and competes like he did last year then I am fine. As long as Mark shows up fit and buys in to the new plan then I will be happy too.

I look at them both now as guys that probably won’t be here for the long haul but hey, we have this season so let’s make the best of it.

Don't think Dubois will be anyone's favourite now that he's indicated he wants out.

Surely you can understand how watching Scheif coast around the D-zone with one hand on his stick all year while Dubois busts his ass will have a major effect on public opinion. If Scheif starts giving a crap I'm sure he'll win everyone back.

I have been very critical of scheifs play last season...but I dont want him traded unless he is also playing lazy hockey under bowness. If scheif does play much better next season it will basically be proof he wasnt trying very hard last year.

So, instead of coming back to the D zone, he should head for the bench?

...better than heading for the sofa.

New coach, new season -- I think he'll def make a stab at playing a more complete game and trying to return to some of the dominance he enjoyed up to and including 2018-19. The better he plays, the better return on a trade and/or the higher the salary he can expect in FA.

So, 45 degrees, bringing him nicely to the region of the neutral zone boards.

I'd bet on a nice bounceback from 55, especially if Wheeler is traded and the team buys in to Bowness.

He doesn't need to pull a "complete 180" on defense.

If he can get to being even average as a defender, he will easily outscore his deficiency's in that end. We are talking about one of the premier offensive players in the game.

To borrow some baseball nomenclature - get from being 70 grade offense, 35 grade defense to 70/45 and that's a supremely valuable player.

I also think usage isn't spoken of enough - he shouldn't be playing 28 min a night, its easier to defend with legs that aren't primarily composed of lactic acid.

This is a bizarre take. First of all you don’t know that’s he’s openly telling his teammates he wants to play for another team. Second, the proof is in the pudding with 55 & 26. We are where we are because of them and Maurice.
