Mort, the bolded is what I'm thinking. I am of the mind that if he is placed with the right coach on a different team, the culture is just so, that he has the skills to morph back to elite Scheif. Perhaps not an elite 200 foot guy, but someone who can pull an entire team and not hurt them too much.
In other words, his woes are 80% causal to his specific psychology. This is an absolute barn-find '67 split window Vette of a trade for some team.
Yes, and I will want them to pay for it. (BTW, split window Vette's were only made in '63. If someone tries to sell you a '67, don't buy it.
)I believe that, among other things, he has become complacent. I think being traded would amount to shock treatment for him, regardless of where he is traded to and who the coach is. If it is also the right fit for him, so much the better.

Another potential clue he may want out is he seems to be never wearing Jets Gear. Yes I know I know that means nothing. But anyone know if he used to wear Jets branding in the past seasons?

He is literally the face of the Jets. He is everywhere. Man they run those commercials all the time on TSN with him.
Everything I have heard 2nd and 3rd hand is alluding to him being gone this summer. Yet everything Chevy is saying is he won't.
The logical side of me says I can't see them moving the face of the Franchise but with the way he looks out there, he has to go.

I think we'd have to add a bit, but I wouldn't be opposed. This would mean that Perfetti would need to play C (or we find another 2C somewhere), and we'd likey still need to trade another D man as we'd still be in the same position of soon to be too many LHD and not enough spots.
There does seem to be some potential fits with the Isles.
1. Barzal 1 for 1
2. Scheif and a 1st for Nelson and Dobson (Not sure on this one as from the Isles perspective I would think they'd want something else besides the 1st. Because if they are trading for Scheifele, they are looking to win now, so I would think they'd want all "now" pieces coming back).
3. What about something around Scheifele and either Schmidt/Dillon for Dobson and Raty?
We'd be able to keep our first and also move out a D contract that we need to move. Perfetti still likely needs to play 2C next year, but Raty could be an NHL'r pretty soon himself.

What I dont get is why it seems Noone in the media has confronted him or the coach about it . If Mathews was being soft on the puck/doing flybys and team is suffering you can bet the media in Toronto would be all over it
They can have Pionk or Dillion instead of the 1st. Wasn't sure of their cap situation.

I am fervently hoping that Chevy does not trade Scheifele. I want Chevy's replacement to do that.

For sure, honestly I didn't go too far into the Cap situation either. I was just thinking more of a direction perspective for them.
Well I mean Chevy would never say he's actively looking to move him. I agree though that I don't see how you can have a face of the franchise that mails it in like he does. It doesn't send the right message plus it's not like we couldn't easily move that mantle to Dubois/Conner imo.

People here have talked of NYR, throwing out names like Kakko, Laf and Chytil. No thanks. It starts with Schneider. Then you can add Chytil ++. Rangers don't want to move Schneider? Too bad.

Why do you think we should could and should get top dollar for a guy who has mailed it in most games this year? After getting scouting reports on his play this season, I wouldn't be surprised if ScheifMe is on most GM's No Trade For list.

An injured, disgruntled Eichel who had openly requested a trade and refused to play or go with the surgery recommended by the team got a top C prospect, a 1st round pick, a top 6 forward and what essentially was a second rounder swap. I think adding the 1st is overpaying. An add might be necessary but it needs to be less. Add Stanley,or Dillon.

Scheifele's problem is not usage. What would a different coach change in usage to get him going? More PP time? Scheifele's problem is attitude. He needs a good kick in the ass, like a trade would deliver.

That could be good.
A new coach might help, or not.
Another year of coasting and his value drops further. There is as much risk there as there is in trading him.
I don't want a fire sale and I don't think that would be necessary. He is still a ppg 1C. The return should be very good.

Because he is still a ppg 1C. Those aren't often available. Every GM in the league has a big ego. 'Me and my coach will fix what's wrong with him in no time'. And I think they probably will. I think getting traded will wake him up.
Add in his super team friendly Cap hit for 2 more years and his value is even higher.

Maybe. Also possible Chevy thinks the same way and we end up with a swap of under-performing players that just need "a change of scenery".
My guess is there won't be a Scheif trade because our asking price will be too high. But if it does happen, I'll bet dollars to donuts that the prevailing mood here will range from disappointment to anger.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll return to basking in the sunshine of my dark cloud.

1- Chef has incredible value . A career point a game player, a center, and a $6,125,000 cap hit. If he is moved, you have to look at and you should be able to get good value in return.
2- Jets with a new coach. Chef gets another season to see if a new coach can correct his game. If after this, and we still see the same from Chef, then it obvious no one is going to motivate him, so look at moving him out.
3- Jets without a new coach. Look at moving him out if you can get a good return. If you are not going to change the bench you will see no difference in Chef's game. Why would he change if no one is going to make him change. Without a change, Chef is going to get his point per game and float to a UFA contract.

More PP time? That’s your solution? Can you explain that to me?
He’s been used as an all purpose center, especially under Maurice. Down by 3, down by 1, tied, up by 1 or up by 3
, up against the other team’s best, IT‘S SCHEIFELE (and Wheeler) TIME!!!! Playing him for 22min+ constantly. To me a lot of that time has been unjustified.
How about scale back some of his time? How about when you need to lock it down you throw out a little more Lowry/Copp? How about when you are down a goal and you need the puck in the offensive zone you use an Ehlers line a little more. I think we are seeing a little more evening out of time between Scheifele and Dubois which I think has been helping Scheifele.
Scheifele is better than 99% of the players in his salary range and you want to kick him in the ass to make him better on another team? So let’s sell low so another team can get the best out of him….huh? I really dont understand any of your logic in this.
