People who keep using numbers from year's past instead of analyzing the current play of players look like fools.

Yes, its totally unreasonable to consider someone's resume. I hope you dont work in HR.

Please answer my other post. You seem to be avoiding any actual analysis of play.

Thats funny, im still waiting for you to answer mine.

Any time.

Gaborik's been pretty good this game actually, so any point youre trying to make here for this game isnt working.

Before my brain starts to hurt any more, just answer these two questions (because you've avoided some of my posts like the plague):

1) Do you think Gaborik still has an elite shot, like he did his first season here?

2) Do you think Gaborik still has elite speed, which he uses to his advantage?

If you answer yes to either of this I'll know this conversation has reached its conclusion, and to my headache's benefit.

1) Yes

2) Yes, but he doesnt use it to his advantage.

You can stop avoiding my question at any time. Return the ****ing favor.

Hes coming off shoulder surgery, theres always an adjustment period after a rehab.

Hes slowly getting his shot back, and I think he should use his slap shot more, which he notably doesnt use.

To answer your question, I was here, criticizing him as I am now. Scoring goals in bunches is good, but pretty ineffective. Half of the games he scored in were blowouts, he was essentially stat-padding so people like you can say how elite he is. The other half of the time, yes, he did score some big goals. At the end of the day, to be called elite, you need to make your presence felt every night. Something he doesn't do. Something Rick Nash does do.

And thank you for answering. While it has been fun beating my head against the wall, all good things must come to an end.

Just don't cry when Gabby's ass is out of here come the draft.

Im gonna stop asking for you to answer my question, because youre clearly not going to.

Its been fun.

Why would I cry?

If we're replacing talent with more talent, im a happy guy. Ive endured enough NON-TALENT Ranger teams in my life. Im ****ing sick of it. Im tired of the glorified grinders. Given his resume, its foolish to suggest Gaborik is washed up and not a star because of 25 ****ing games.

I bet youd love the Columbus Blue Jackets. Ill watch the Blackhawks instead.

we can talk till we're blue in the face about gabby taking time to recover from the surgery...whatever. that fact is, you have to move your legs in order to get in a position to use your shoulder and he just isn't skating period.
good thing i have the foam remote, watching him coast and stick check guys in the corners is making me homicidal. He cant be outta here fast enough.

Hes always done that......

Sad but true.

Our point exactly. You think we liked him before. We didn't. Hes always been soft. I dont care if he scores 50 goals a season. He scores them when its safe to score them. He doesnt have the game nor does he have the ability to raise his level, ever. He will never be a go-to player when any team needs him.

2/3 seasons hes been that guy here, so I really just will never understand the folks who say this.

Consider it the 9th Wonder of the World.

Do some of you guys really not understand how biased stats can be in small sample sizes? Obviously he hasn't played well so far this year but that doesn't mean he does not have the ability to do so. Do you honestly think replacing Gaborik with a different player is going to improve the offense? That's essentially impossible given that there are very few better goal scorers than him and certainly none that we would be able to trade him for.

Guess what. Last year from 12/26 to 2/21 he was 6-12-18 in 25 games. in 09/10 from 12/26-3/7 he was 9-11-20 in 25 games. And these were years where he was 40G and PPG.
Last year from 11/27 to 1/21 Nash was 9-6-15 in 25 games.

As you see I can pick and choose small samples where players don't produce as well. And the point of the game is to produce - not how you do it. You can play as well as possible if you don't contribute to scoring it doesn't get you anything.

I've said this before in this thread regarding data like this. Provide proof that Gaborik scores goals when they are not needed (say the what % of his goals occur when up by 2 or down by at least 3) and see how that compares to other top scorers in the league. Without this you are just randomly speculating and making comments to try and fit what you want the player to seem like. I guarantee he is not going to be significantly different than other players of his caliber in this category and any difference is merely going to be a statistical outlier. It's like arguing clutch in baseball - it's nothing that actually exists (by existing i mean being a skill..obviously one player can happen to perform better in clutch situations since it's just making a small sample smaller and allowing for more variance). For more info on this sort of thing read The Book by Tom Tango.

They LOVE to nitpick. LOVE it.

im not so sure i follow...
sooo, nash scores the same amount of goals playing for a god aweful team while gabby does it playing on a team 1 period away from the finals, how does this look good for gabby?
our point is that everything with gabby is in short samples...he scores 2-3 in a game (usually against the piles) and then disappears for 10 games. so yes we can all break it down into small samples because thats exactly whats he's done for the majority of his nyr career.

We left because we're discussing how this team is playing like **** and that it's time to move Gabby.

Playing in 91% of his games as a Ranger = injury talk.

Makes sense.

We always get torched by ex-Rangers so you can be sure of it.

Playing hobbled too.

Yeah, I've been really, really impressed with him the last few games. :sarcasm:

Another lackluster effort from Gaborik. That penalty shot was pathetic to watch. But don't worry, he's gonna go on one of his streaks soon when he scores 6 goals in 3 games. That's what all the Gaborik defenders keep saying, we'll all be waiting on him to do that until we're playing golf this Summer
