Malkin has more points than Gaborik playing in less games. And when he's not scoring, he's creating chances. Malkin rarely takes a shift off and his puck control and dekes are leaps and bounds better than Gaborik.

Oh, and Malkin isn't shy of throwing a hit from time to time.
 
Easy way to solve all of this. Gaborik sits. Kreider in. The production will be greater with Kreider. And *if* the Rangers make the playoffs we know Kreider will get dirty and not be perfecting the "gabby horseshoe" -skating from blueline to blueline along the boards in the o-zone.
 
Crosby was injured for half the season, and he never plays with Malkin except for the powerplay.

Kunitz and Neal basically just get open, get their sticks down, and Malkin finds them. He made Fedotenko score goals.

No. He still has more points than games played, unlike Gaborik. And points scoring isn't the only thing wrong with Gabby: he takes shifts off, stands there like a pylon, and he doesn't have the same moves or strength to get around players like Malkin.

2 goals and 8 assists if you don't count PP's. From a former Hart Trophy and Art Ross winner, I'd call that underperforming.

Malkin has 5 goals and 19 assists. And again, you're glossing what else Malkin brings to the ice vs. Gabby.

Why is it ridiculous? It's not like we are going to finish in the top 3 points-wise and compete for the cup this year. If you can trade Gaborik now or after the season and get a couple of "useful, younger, higher compete level, pieces" back you wouldn't do it?? It's becoming very apparent that Gaborik needs to be on a team which has better talent where he has less pressure to be a go to guy for goal scoring.

He doesn't have moves period. How many times do you see Gabby successfully get by a defender when he's carrying the puck? I'd say 10% of the time, if that. So frustrating to watch.

He could still blow by a defender using his speed, but he doesn't have it no more.

And majority of those points are thanks to his linemates (PP with Neal, Kunitz and Crosby). And if you compare these two season, yes, he hasn't played as good. Is the concussion affecting him, maybe. But we can play these same games and excuses with other players too.

Yes, Gaborik has been **** this season but after few bad games (he has still played some solid games here and there) trading him this early would be a mistake.

I don't recall Torts bashing Gabby for his post-season performance (or lack thereof). Are you basing that other comment on post-game comments where Torts basically convinces the media that he knows nothing about the players' injury status so that he doesn't have to answer questions or comment about them? Or did Torts come out after the season ended and say he had no idea Gabby got injured in the Sens series??? I'd have a hard time believing that Gaborik would not have spoken to and worked with Jim Ramsey after being injured, and that Rammer would not have communicated that information with the coaching staff. That's Jim Ramseys job....

If Gaborik injured himself and did not communicate that with the medical staff or the coach, than that would be quite puzzling and alarming. Players don't get sidelined for being forthcoming about their injuries/ailments, they get sidelined when the medical staff and management decide they cannot contribute out on the ice or that they would risk further injury if they were to play. I'd also have a hard time believing that Gaborik didn't tell anyone about his shoulder because he would be afraid he wouldn't be allowed to keep playing. They would let him play if they felt he could still have an impact on the outcome of the game.

1) The Rangers don't have to finish in the top-3 to compete for the Cup

2) It's a shame that you have given up already this early in the season.

No, I wouldn't do it. Losing Prust, Feds, Dubi and Anisimov already showed what can happen when you lose a really solid bottom 6. We have a good two lines now and I wouldn't trade Gaborik to get more grinders. If we could get more solid bottom 6 guys without losing Gaborik, fine. Nash is great and all, but he can't carry this team all by himself. He needs Gaborik, Richards and bottom 6 to perform on their right level. And with Nash, you would think Gaborik didn't have that much pressure for scoring by himself.

Yes, I remember couple of goals from him this year. Both happened in the same game. Late January against Boston. The OT winner was from a rush.

That game is the very definition of Gaborik, I wish I'd see more of that.

Wasn't a snipe. He batted in his rebound. I think he means a snipe like his first season her against LAK.
 
I don't understand why this man does not shoot the puck on his penalty shots/shootout attempts. He has one of the most lethal shots in the NHL, can't stick handle for his life, yet always comes in and tries to deke the goalie silly. Just SHOOT the puck!
